Leaked ‘Moto Z Play’ image shows a thicker device with a headphone jack

Motorola launched two distinct Moto X variants last year: the flagship Moto X Style (later known simply as “Pure Edition” in the US) and the Moto X Play, which shipped with lesser processor and RAM specs. Later, Verizon and Motorola teamed up to launch another variant at the flagship level: the shatterproof Droid Turbo 2.

With the initial launch of the Moto Z, Lenovo effectively introduced what are the next-gen equivalent of the Moto X Style (the standard Moto Z), and the Droid Turbo 2 (the Moto Z Force). That leaves us with one gap, a replacement for the Moto X Play, and a new image suggests that such a phone is launching soon — and with a headphone jack.

HellomotoHK has a pretty solid track record with Motorola leaks, and now the group has posted the above image to its social media accounts. The image purportedly shows the Moto Z on top, the Moto Z Force on the bottom, and the yet-unannounced Moto Z Play in the middle. As you can see, there’s one clear distinction: the presence of a headphone jack on the bottom edge.

Interestingly, VentureBeat reported just a couple months ago that Lenovo was planning to launch a Moto Z Style and a Moto Z Play, codenamed Vector Thin and Vertex, respectively. Vector Thin launched in June, but we have yet to see the purported Moto Z Play. According to the original leak, the Play features an octa-core Snapdragon 625, 2GB/16GB 3GB/32GB variants, a full HD display, a 13MP camera, and a larger 3500mAh battery.

Further details about the phone aren’t known, but if the Moto X Play is any indication, we won’t see the Moto Z Play stateside. We’ll let you know as we learn more.
