The OnePlus One was one of the most talked about devices in 2014. It was one of the world’s first budget flagship smartphones, packing high-end specifications and a price that couldn’t be beat.

Inside you’ll find a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, Adreno 330 GPU, 3GB of RAM, and a vivid 5.5-inch 1080p display (401 PPI). The 64GB model is featured in Sandstone Black ($349), while the 16GB model comes in Silk White ($299).

OnePlus apologizes for pre-order problems, will offer another chance to order on November 17

After months and months of inconsistent availability and controversial marketing techniques, the OnePlus One finally went up for official pre-order yesterday. As you’d expect however, the launch did not go as planned. The Chinese company’s site experienced a massive hit in traffic, causing it to be nearly impossible for customers to process an order, and even harder to tell if that order had actually gone through. This evening, OnePlus has published an apologetic blog post, explaining what exactly went wrong yesterday.

PSA: OnePlus One pre-orders start today at 8AM PST for one hour only

OnePlus-pre-order-system

If you’ve been continuously trying to score an invite to purchase a OnePlus One, only to come up short, today might be your lucky day. In less than an hour (at 8AM PST), the Chinese phone maker will open up pre-orders for its elusive handset for exactly 60 minutes. While that may not be a lot of time to buy a device that’s been around for several months now, it’s still the closest thing to a normal purchase option that the startup has offered since launching its first smartphone.

Still keeping things complex, the company will only open initial pre-orders for a one hour period.

Exclusive: This is ‘Shamu,’ Motorola’s upcoming Nexus 6/X

shamufinal22.png 2016-04-13 21-57-15

Google’s upcoming “Nexus 6” (some claim it will be called “Nexus X” because of Blade Runner) has long been rumored, and there have been many leaked specifications and details rolling out for quite some time now. But there hasn’t been much solid information about the device quite yet, leaving many who have passed on the iPhone 6 and OnePlus One hopelessly waiting to know if the wait will be worth it. For those of you who fall into this category, you’re in luck.

We can now corroborate previous rumors that its screen size nudges it out of smartphone territory, and closer to the likes of the recent push for phablet devices. If any smartphone is really a phablet, this is it—shipping with a behemoth screen that’s a massive 5.92-inches diagonally, with the device’s body being just a bit larger than that. 9to5Google has also learned that, as for the overall appearance of the device, it’s basically going to be a scaled up 2nd generation Moto X with some minor tweaks to make the larger size easier to use.

BGR.in today received some interesting information about the rumored smartwatch by OnePlus. In case you haven’t heard of them, OnePlus is a company that sells the OnePlus One smartphone (our review here), which boasts a 5.5″ 1080P display, 2.5GHz SnapDragon 801, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, and other top-tier features for the low-range price of $349 off contract. Their “invite only” system spawned a polarizing response from their most dedicated fans, as OnePlus required anyone who wanted the phone to be “invited” to purchase it.

OnePlus One review: A true flagship killer that’s second to none (Video)

lead

There’s nothing worse than wanting something you can’t have. Unfortunately, that happens to be the case for the best Android smartphone on the market. Of course, “best” is completely subjective, but there are a lot of factors that make the OnePlus One my go-to Android smartphone and 2014’s “flagship killer.” It may not have everything for everyone, but it has everything I need and all for half the price of the current competition.

When the OnePlus One was introduced, it dropped jaws within the Android community. It’s powered by the latest and greatest specifications on the market and priced at just $299 for the 16GB model and $349 for the 64GB model. The catch is, you’ll need an invitation to buy it. Yup, that’s right an invitation, but we’ll talk about that more in a little bit…

Let’s face it, the launch of the OnePlus One has pretty much been a disaster. There’s been horrible marketing gimmickssoftware issues and let’s not forget that you still can’t buy the phone without an invitation. Hopefully OnePlus will resolve the issues surrounding its smartphone before publicly announcing any other projects, because according to @evleaks, the startup is working on a tablet.

OnePlus One equals five in terms of repairability according to iFixit

oneplus-one-teardown

A OnePlus One in the wild is about as rare as a household connected to Google Fiber, but despite how uncommon these two occurrences are, they’re very much real. In the case of the former, the folks at iFixit have managed to get their hands on the elusive smartphone and dismember it in the name of science. This exploratory surgery pretty much uncovered what we’d expect to see: 3GB of Samsung-made RAM, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Snapdragon 801 CPU and a pair of cameras (5 and 13-megapixel) designed by Chinese manufacture Sunny Optical Technology.

OnePlus One security bug resolved, first wave of phones finally shipping

OnePlus-One-Black

Well, that didn’t take too long. After being held up by a potential security risk, the OnePlus One is apparently ready for mass consumption.

“We did choose to delay the shipment of the first phones in order to make sure the software was secure and provided the best possible user experience, a company spokesperson told Android Authority. “The CyanogenMod team worked very quickly and efficiently and the Open SSL issues have already been fixed. The first OnePlus Ones ship to early users with invites as early as tomorrow.”

So, if you’re among the those who ordered a OnePlus One through its early release program, there’s a good chance that could receive your new phone within the next few days. Better late than never, right?

It’s almost impossible to get your hands on a OnePlus One and thanks to a delay, things have gotten even harder. The $300 Android powerhouse was scheduled to launch last month, but its manufacturer hit a bit of a snag that required some additional work. Now without a clear-cut release date in sight, the company’s software partner, Cyanogen took to Reddit to shed a little light on the situation.

OnePlus now accepting donations in lieu of phone smashing

181707-oneplusonefull

The OnePlus One looks like a promising device, but its maker’s marketing campaign is more than questionable. Let’s face it, OnePlus’ Smash the Past promotion was a terrible idea. It’s bad for the environment, wastes good phones and worst of all it may be a financial loss for its winners. However, it appears that OnePlus has come to its senses. Today, the Oppo Electronics subsidiary announced that it will now give participants the option to smash or donate their phone to Medic Mobile if they’re selected to receive one of the first 100 OnePlus Ones.

So far the OnePlus One has received a positive buzz, but the biggest controversy surrounding the “flagship killer” is its awful marketing program. Why smash a $700 device for a $300 phone? If you’re not familiar with what this $300 device has to offer, check out its specs below.

  • 5.5-inch LTPS IPS with TOL 1080p display
  •  2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 3,100mAh battery
  • 5-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 13-megapixel rear-facing camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat (CyanogenMod 11S)

OnePlus One expected to be available in June

If you’ve got an eye on the OnePlus One, but you’re not too keen on smashing your current smartphone to bits in order to get the handset early, then you’re not alone. The good news is that you shouldn’t have to wait too long to get your hands on the self-proclaimed “flagship killer.” In a recent production update alert, OnePlus revealed that after it clears its first 100 devices from its Smash the Past campaign, the company will ramp up production for a larger batch of 16GB Silk White models of its new phone in mid to late May. This production run will require a hard to get invite, so what about the rest of the world?
