Google revealed that Chrome OS was picking up native support for running Linux applications last month at I/O 2018, and now that functionality is slowly starting to roll out, including for Samsung’s Chromebook Plus.
Chromebooks often come with enticing offers, mostly involving Google’s own products. A Google Play gift card here, a few hundred gigabytes of Drive storage there, it’s all been done. But now, Google is offering 6 months of Netflix with a select few Chromebooks.
One of the reasons some Chromebooks don’t sell well is the fact that they’re not super easy to market. Older Chromebooks were pretty standard pieces of hardware and software, so they didn’t stand out all that much. With the latest Chromebooks though, OEMs have a bit more muscle to flex, and Samsung is demonstrating that with the first Chromebook Plus ad.
One of the most wanted features wanted on Chromebooks is the ability to run Android apps. Thankfully, Google listened and has been working to make this happen, with the Samsung Chromebook Plus being one of the first to offer the ability. Now, it looks like the Chromebook Plus is the first to receive the update to Nougat, but it is currently only available to those running the Canary build of the operating system…
2017 has seen two big consumer-facing Chromebook releases so far: the Samsung Chromebook Plus/Pro, and the ASUS Chromebook Flip C302CA. Both are a part of the “third phase” of Chromebook design I explained in my Chromebook Plus review, which means that both are clearly designed with Android apps in mind.

Over the past year, Chrome OS has evolved in huge ways, but most drastically with the addition of Android apps. The matching hardware, conversely, hasn’t changed that much. We’ve had some Chromebooks like the Acer R13 which nailed the 2-in-1 form factor, but nothing we’d call revolutionary.
