CyanogenMod has announced in a blog post that its custom ROM for Android is now available to Android One users. Android One is Google’s initiative to bring low-cost devices to emerging markets, unveiled at I/O 2014. There are currently three Android One devices available, all of which are now supported by CyanogenMod 11.
Cyanogen announced on Monday that it has enabled nightly releases of CyanogenMod 12 based on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. The company also confirmed that its more stable “M” release of the custom ROM is 85% complete. CyanogenMod 12 supports a limited number of Android devices at this time, including the OnePlus One and Moto G.

OnePlus is celebrating it’s first anniversary by making its OnePlus One ‘flagship killer’ smartphone available without the invitation you’ve so far needed to order one. Both the white 16GB and black 64GB models are available.
The company is also offering 11% of all accessories, a prize draw to win a 64GB model and a competition to name its forthcoming custom ROM in which you can win both a phone and a trip to Hong Kong to meet the team.

Cyanogen on Monday introduced its upcoming Themes app that will serve as a one-stop storefront for Cyanogen OS smartphone users to download themes that customize everything from fonts and animations to wallpapers and icons. The company also launched the initial beta release of Themes Studio for designers to publish and distribute themes.

CyanogenMod has rolled out a new software update for the OnePlus One today which looks to resolve a few issues that have been troubling the device for the past few months. CM 11S 44S tackles some potential security flaws and looks to resolve a longstanding touchscreen problem that affected typing or just about anything that involved using the phone’s display. There’s also a fix for the “black bar” issue that would occasionally cause lines to appear across the OnePlus One’s screen.
While the number of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices that the average consumer owns is expected to rise over the next several years, it remains a rather frustrating and tedious task to pick up a task on one device where you left off on another. Apple has attempted to solve this problem with Handoff for iPhone, iPad and Mac, but Google has yet to deliver the same functionality on Android.

Open source software developer Cyanogen Inc recently met with Android frontman Sundar Pichai, who expressed interest in acquiring the startup, only to be turned down, according to The Information. Based in Palo Alto and Seattle, the software maker is mostly known for its CyanogenMod platform that’s compatible with multiple Android-based devices. Recently, the company partnered with Chinese manufacturer OnePlus, providing the stock software for its first smartphone.
CyanogenMod’s monthly M10 release of CM11 is now available and the focus appears to be on resolving bugs. The standout feature of this fresh software push is the addition of the new CM Bug Tracker app, which lets users send crash logs to the platform’s development team, making it easier for them to fix technical issues. There’s also a new field in the ‘take a bug report’ section under Developer Settings that gives the option to send the CyanogenMod crew a scrubbed bug report.
CyanogenMod—which is probably the most well-known fork of Android—lets users customize their phone beyond what Google intends, and touts having as many as 12 million active installs across a variety of devices. But the company behind the famed alternative operating system is reportedly getting a lot of attention, notably from companies that would consider themselves some of Google’s biggest rivals.
A new over-the-air update is now available for the OnePlus One that aims to resolve a handful of issues for the elusive handset. Software version XNPH3RR reportedly brings some security enhancements, fixes laggy input and straightens out a troubled battery.

Custom ROMs are a common commodity for Android users, with CyanogenMod being so ubiquitous as to be the default operating system for at least one flagship smartphone. But Android Wear devices are now available worldwide, meaning it’s just about time for a developer somewhere to improve the smartwatch software Google has shipped.
OnePlus One invite orders are on their way to consumers, but what about people who just want to buy the phone without having to jump through hoops? Online retailer OppoMart is now selling the elusive handset at a slight markup. If you desperately want to get your hands on the OnePlus One before the OnePlus Two is announced, you can place your order today, but it’ll cost you $400.
Well, that didn’t take too long. After being held up by a potential security risk, the OnePlus One is apparently ready for mass consumption.
“We did choose to delay the shipment of the first phones in order to make sure the software was secure and provided the best possible user experience, a company spokesperson told Android Authority. “The CyanogenMod team worked very quickly and efficiently and the Open SSL issues have already been fixed. The first OnePlus Ones ship to early users with invites as early as tomorrow.”
So, if you’re among the those who ordered a OnePlus One through its early release program, there’s a good chance that could receive your new phone within the next few days. Better late than never, right?
OnePlus has officially unveiled its first flagship device. The OnePlus One carries flagship specifications, but you won’t have to break the bank to get it. The device will be available starting at $299 for the Silk White 16GB model, and $349 for the Sandstone Black 64GB model.
The OnePlus One packs a 5.5-inch LTPS IPS with TOL 1080p display, 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 3,100mAh battery, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 13MP rear camera. The device has a magnesium frame, giving the device a total weight of 162 grams. OnePlus claims this is the “lightest 5.5-inch phone in the world.”
Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD is a prime example of solid hardware being weighed down by bulky software, but there appears to be a resolution in the works. The CyanogenMod community has just released a new set of nightly builds for the 2012 Kindle Fire HD (7 and 8.9-inch models). Currently pushing experimental status, improved stable builds are expected to land soon.
Since its release, CyanogenMod developer Koushik Dutta has been at the forefront of expanding the Chromecas’s capabilities. He first released his AllCast app that allowed users to beam a variety of content to their Chromecast, and now, he’s updated his Mirror for Android app with a few big new features. In a post on Google+, Dutta announced that Mirror for Android has been updated with the ability to mirror your Android device’s screen to a Chromecast or a Chrome browser. Dutta has been teasing this feature for a while, but he finally released it tonight, albeit in a very early beta.
The feature works just as you expect. After installing the app and going through the set-up process, you have the option to mirror your entire Android device’s interface to your Chromecast, Chrome browser, or even Apple TV. Mirror also allows you to create a video recording of your Android screen.
Mirror lets you:
- Create a video recording of your Android
- Mirror your Android screen to Chromecast (Nexus 5 only)
- Mirror your Android Screen to Chrome (Nexus 5 only)
- Mirror your Android screen to an Apple TV
Of course, there are some bugs given that it is still in an early beta. Chromecast and Chrome mirroring is also only supported on the Nexus 5, as it’s the only device that has the required hardware video decoder for the app. You also must have root-access to your device and have the SuperUser app installed.

Back in November, the CyanogenMod team announced an interesting new project that allowed users to flash the team’s custom ROM in just a few clicks. The app came with a catch, though. It was only available on Windows machines, leaving Mac users in the dark. Today, however, the CyanogenMod team has released its Installer application on Mac OS X.
CyanogenMod installer supports a long-list of devices, ranging from the HTC One and Galaxy S4 to the Nexus S and Galaxy S II. The process is very simple. First, simply join the CyanogenMod Installer for Mac beta group, download the actual app from Google+, connect a compatible Android device, and the Installer will handle most everything else. It’s important to note that the Installer will wipe all the data from your device, so be sure to back it up before beginning the process.
The CyanogenMod team has had a very successful time over the past few months, as it raised $22 million in funding in December in addition to releasing more devices that run the CyanogenMod ROM out of the box.

The CyanogenMod team has a whole lot to celebrate in the last two weeks with a new round of funding, CTS certification of the Oppo N1 and now a total of 10 million CM installs. According to the company/team’s CM website, the Android modification hit more than 10,000,000 downloads in the last few days.
A big round of applause to the folks at Oppo and Cyanogen Inc as the Oppo N1 becomes the first Google-approved CyanogenMod phone. The announcement came yesterday via Google Groups as the device was certified to have passed through Google’s CTS and CDD certification programs which is a major milestone for everyone working on this project.
Cyanogen Inc, the parent company of the Android-famous CyanogenMod has raised an additional $22 million dollars in Series B funding. The money comes on top of the $7 million the company raised earlier this year as it announced three months ago it had incorporated.
There’s no doubting that CyanogenMod is one of the most well-known custom ROMs available, with it being available for a plethora of new and old devices. Last month, the CyanogenMod team announced that it had raised $7 million in funding and was looking into a direct-to-consumer route for installing the ROM. Today, Cyanogen Inc. has announced (via Droid Life) the CyanogenMod Installer. This app, available on Google Play now, allows users to install the custom ROM incredibly easily.
Once the app is downloaded to one of the compatible devices (list here), it will pair to companion computer software in order to perform the ROM flash. All the user must do is plug their device into the computer and simply hit “start.” The process will wipe everything from the device and install the latest CyanogenMod build. Both the app and computer software are free to download.
As far as device compatibility goes, Cyanogen says that it “will continue to work on supporting additional devices beyond the initial set,” but that for the moment, the software supports “the majority of flagship models currently on the market.”
This is an incredible feat for a company that only received funding last month. CyanogenMod Installer will allow for people who are not technologically-inclined to easily install the latest version of Android to their device.

Getting your Android smartphones upgraded to the latest version is an important factor in considering which carrier to go with, because some carriers push updates quickly while others let things fall by the wayside.
This time around, AT&T is the first carrier to upgrade one of its phones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Besides the Galaxy Nexus devices, and anything running a hacked version or Cyanogen Mod, Vivid owners will be the first U.S. device owners running ICS.
A version of ICS briefly hit Vivid owners earlier this week, but it was pulled. At the moment, we are not able to do the update, but we are told it is rolling out now.
According to HTC’s Twitter account, the Vivid will also get Beats by Dre audio functionality as well.
