LG’s flagship smartphone the LG G3 appears set to take on Samsung’s Galaxy Note series as an official promotional video just leaked a second variant, the G3 Stylus.
Appearing right at the end of the video, we learn nothing more about the device other than its name and the fact that, yep, you’d never guess, it has a stylus. We liked the G3 very much, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see whether the new device is able to put up serious competition for Samsung’s Galaxy Note …

Leaker @evleaks this morning posted a tweet featuring some interesting APKs from the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 that reveals information about its hardware and software.
The list includes the usual suspects, such as S Health, S Music, and Samsung Link software, but two of the APKs might pique your interest. “SStudio_WQHD_K.apk” implies the new phablet will sport a highly rumored WQHD display, giving the display a resolution of 2560×1440. Also on the list is an APK titled “FingerprintService.apk”, strongly implying the fingerprint reader currently found on the Galaxy S5 will be expanding over to the Note line as well.
Other features such as “PhotoTable.apk” and “SmartSelfShot.apk” were also leaked, but it’s no surprise Samsung is going to be adding even more photo modes to the already saturated list.

The Galaxy Note has, since its inception, sported an ‘S Pen’ stylus for interacting with its larger, phablet-sized screen. But a new patent published by Samsung in South Korea suggests that this little accessory may be moving away from using a digitizer and toward being ultrasound-powered (via SamMobile).
Samsung announced today that it’s launching a new free and ad-free music service called “Milk Music” that’s powered by Slacker and available to customers of select Galaxy devices. Samsung says the app, which is available now on available as a download on Google Play, is “fully customizable” and offers over 200 stations and a library of over 13 million songs.
“Milk Music introduces a fresh approach to music that reflects our innovation leadership and our focus on creating best-in-class consumer experiences,” said Gregory Lee, president and CEO of Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics North America Headquarters. “We’re offering consumers amazing, rich music experiences built around what matters most to them and their lifestyle.”
The service is launching today in the US and available to those with a Galaxy S® 4, Galaxy S® III, Galaxy Note® 3, and Galaxy Note® II as well as the upcoming Galaxy S 5. Samsung added that it will soon offer “unique music programming from top selling and emerging artists available exclusively through Milk Music.”
While Samsung is promoting the service as completely free and free of ads, the Google Play page for the app says that the app will only be without ads and free for a for a limited time. It’s unclear if Samsung is referring to the ads or the service being free of charge, but it appears that it will either be implementing advertisements or a fee for the service in the future.

Amazon has a couple notable deals on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 today. That’s the 2014 edition first introduced at IFA with some impressive high-end specs. Normally $549 for the entry-level 16GB model, Amazon has it today for $499 + free shipping. You can also get the 32GB model for $529 + free shipping (Reg. $599).
Specs for the tablet including Android 4.3 out of the box, a 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5420 Quad-Core processor, 3 GB RAM, an 8MP rear camera, and a 10.1-inch 2560×1600 WQXGA display.
It’s unclear if this is just an Amazon sale or Samsung’s new price on the tablets, but we’d suggest getting one now in case prices go back to normal tomorrow.

Another notable Samsung tablet deal today comes from Groupon, which currently has the 16GB 8-inch Galaxy Note 8.0 (refurbished) for $229. 
Samsung has put up banners at CES for a new Galaxy Note PRO and Tab PRO, which it is expected to unveil tonight (photo courtesy of Engadget) – and thanks to leaked specs from the generally dependable @evleaks, we think we have a good idea what to expect.
The leak suggests that four new models will be launched, with 3G and LTE variants, in 8.4-, 10.1- and 12.2-inch sizes.

Samsung is keeping the Phablet life going single-handedly as they confirm shipment of 10 million Galaxy Note 3 units around the world. While those numbers don’t make the Galaxy Note 3 the fastest selling Galaxy device ever, it’s the fastest selling Galaxy Note.

Samsung just sent invites to “Unpacked 2013 Episode 2” and is hinting that we’ll likely see what’s next in line for its stylus-based Note family. The event is scheduled to take place on September 4 in Berlin, which puts it right in the middle of IFA, one of the year’s biggest technology trade shows taking place the same week. A new Note product wouldn’t exactly be surprising, as the company has used its event during IFA to unveil its new Galaxy Notes since the introduction of the first model two years ago.
Last year, Samsung hosted its Unpacked event during IFA where it unveiled the Galaxy Note II alongside the introduction of its Galaxy Camera. This year it looks like we might be getting another Note announcement, as the invite above asks us to “Note the date” and does so in a decidedly S Pen-like, handwritten font.
Like last year, the event will be live streamed through Samsung’s YouTube channel, and this year the company is also hosting a live stream in New York’s Time Square for those that can’t make it to Berlin. We’ll be in Berlin bringing you the best of both IFA and Samsung’s event early next month.

Just after posting alleged specs for Samsung’s rumored 8-inch Galaxy Note, a report from Korean language inews24 (via Engadget) claimed today that company executive JK Shin has confirmed the device will make an appearance at Mobile World Congress next month.
Earlier today, we posted the full specs of the device courtesy of blog SamMobile. According to the leaked specs, the Galaxy Note 8.0 will include a 1,280-by-800 TFT LCD, a 1.6 quad-core processor, 5-megapixel main camera, and 2GB of RAM. We’ll keep you posted with the latest from MWC next month in Barcelona.
Verizon Wireless just revealed a Nov. 29 release date for the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The news came via an update to the October pre-order announcement, and it further clarified the Android device will be available for purchase in stores and online. The phablet comes in either Marble White or Titanium Grey colors for $299.99 with a new two-year customer agreement.

Apparently, keeping secrets isn’t in Google’s DNA. Following a leak of the LG Nexus 4 this morning, ahead of Google’s press event on Monday, we now get a look at what appears to be the support manual for the rumored Samsung-built Nexus 10 tablet. The Verge pointed us to these pair of images from Korean website Seeko, showing some basic specs for the 10-inch tablet.
It’s not clear if these images are legitimate. Moreover, unfortunately, we don’t learn much from the images. If they are the real deal, it appears the new Nexus 10 will sport a design much different from the current Nexus 7 lineup. As you can see in the images above, the placement of the volume rockers, and other components, line up with the Galaxy Note 10.1, but the sides of the device in landscape orientation appear to have a slight curve. None of the specs listed that we can see are surprising, including: a micro USB port, headphone jack, LED indicator, micro HDMI port, and a back camera with flash. We’ll be at Google’s event in New York on Monday where we hope to get a better look at the new device.
Vision Objects, a company that provides handwriting recognition and digital ink technologies for various platforms, today announced a deal with Samsung to develop apps for the Galaxy Note line of devices. According to the company’s press release (below), Samsung has already integrated the technology into the input panel and S Note personal note-taker app in the Galaxy Note, Note II, and Note 10.1.
“Our partnership with Samsung is a great step forward in showing the industry that smartphones and tablets can be used for content creation and not solely for media consumption,” said Stefan Knerr, Founder and CEO of Vision Objects. “The tablet market is driven by mobility needs – but until now tablets have been used to access information, not create it. With our handwriting recognition and the S Pen, people can now expect a lot more from their device for uses such as note taking in meetings and lectures, writing messages, ideation and brainstorming, data capture in enterprises, document annotation, easily entering mathematical expressions, educational games and more.”
The company makes a number of apps for the desktop, Android, and iOS, but today it is updating its MyScript Notes Mobile iOS app with functionality similar to the smart note taking on Galaxy Note. The full press release from Vision Objects is below:
AT&T made things official this morning for Samsung Galaxy Note users by announcing the availability of an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update and Premium Suite from Samsung. While most of us know what to expect with ICS, the Premium Suite will give you access to a number of apps and new features including: the S Note app, which is a widget for quick access to S Memo features, and an app for creating customized notes and greeting cards with S Pen called “My Story”. AT&T also confirmed ICS for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket.
The update is a little hairier than most with the requirement that you connect your device to your Mac or PC and the Kies application. From there, you are hard resetting your device and will lose stuff like Bluetooth devices, Music playlists and apps folders.

A recent report suggests the Galaxy Note successor will début with a slightly larger display at a popular consumer electronics show in Europe next month.
According to Maeil Business Newspaper, the Galaxy Note 2 will boast a 5.5-inch display, which is .2-inches larger than the original model, and it will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. A quad-core Exynos processor will give the phablet a performance boost, and its rear-facing camera will see an upgrade from 8-megapixels to 12- or 13-megapixels.
“Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note 2 during the IFA 2012, a consumer electronics show held in Berlin, Germany in late-August,” reported South Korea-based Maeil, while quoting a source “familiar with the matter.”
While many of the devices on the list have rumored or leaked release dates already, BGR claimed to have Verizon’s summer/fall roadmap that details flagship smartphones being launched later this year.
According to the report, Verizon Wireless will offer Samsung’s highly anticipated and much rumored Galaxy S3, which the company confirmed yesterday will pack its new 1.4GHz Exynos 4 quad-core processor. The report does not give a release date, but it speculated a summer release based on the roadmap.
Also apparently on the roadmap are multiple Motorola RAZR devices and a new 5-inch HTC device that appears to be a Galaxy Note competitor…
Well lookie there folks. Sprint posted a picture of an unbranded Galaxy Note on its website for all to see. We are hoping this is not just a lazy graphic designer over at the Now Network, but rather an indication that this is coming soon. It does make sense, because Sprint is ramping up its LTE network. Moreover, the Galaxy Note would not be a bad addition. This time, we hope it features Ice Cream Sandwich right off the bat, unlike AT&T and Google Wallet thanks to the NFC chip offered on the LTE version. At any rate, if this is true, we should hear more from Sprint soon. Stay tuned.

We are not entirely sure if Samsung was behind this footage of an elephant playing with the Galaxy Note, but it could very well fit into an upcoming advertisement. The elephant does not make much use of the Note’s S Pen stylus, but it is entertaining nonetheless. Go past the break for outtakes of Peter the Elephant playing drums and piano on the device.
With no information regarding sources, Eldar Murtazin took to Twitter to claim Ice Cream Sandwich will roll out to Samsung’s Galaxy S II on March 1. While he has made many predictions lately, it is not clear exactly how accurate he is. Time will only tell. At any rate, ICS should hit the Galaxy S II relatively soon. He also said ICS will roll out for the Galaxy Note and other Samsung devices from March to May, depending on model and carrier. We shall see!
AT&T announced the Galaxy Note will be available on its network at CES 2012, and we learned last week it will launchFeb. 19 in-store for $299. Today, you can finally pre-order this “phablet” in both carbon blue and ceramic white colors. Better yet, if you pre-order the device today, it will be shipped to you on Feb. 17, just two days before it is available in-stores on Feb. 19.
Just as a reminder: the Galaxy Note sports a huge 5.3-inch touchscreen, dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S3 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and Samsung’s advanced S-Pen. It will also be available on AT&T’s 4G network.

As we reported yesterday, Samsung is plotting an aggressive advertising push to promote the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note with its first-ever Super Bowl commercial scheduled to air during the fourth quarter of the big game on Sunday, Feb. 5. Today, the company released a teaser clip of the advert, include above. The 45-second video tweaks the original line waiters’ formula a bit. Adding ambiguous music background (Tainted Love by Soft Cell), the commercial depicts exhausted people standing in line, looking terribly bored.
They are annoyed, too, as apparently a new iPhone they have been waiting for “looks the same,” lacks 4G, has “sketchy” battery and so forth. Then, the advert eludes that the Galaxy Note guy is coming to the rescue. Before we get to see him, the advert wraps up with the “The next big thing is already here… Again” tagline. To our Apple fans, it is a subtle hint at Apple’s iPhone 4 promotional video that closes: “This will change everything – all over again.”
