Android Lollipop rolling out to AT&T’s Samsung Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 Active

Update: AT&T has also announced that the Galaxy S5 Active is now receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update includes a variety of changes and improvements, which can be viewed on AT&T’s website now.

We told you earlier today about another device from AT&T that’s getting Lollipop, and now it seems like the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is getting the overhaul as well. As AT&T has announced on their support site, the firmware update is rolling out now over-the-air, and you’ll need a WiFi connection to download the 1 GB file.

Specifically, this is Android Lollipop version 5.0.2, the release that came just before the most-recent 5.1 version. As you probably already know, Android Lollipop comes packed with Material Design, new and improved notifications, multiple device user accounts, and more features.

Review: Samsung’s Galaxy Alpha is like having TouchWiz in a can (Video)

When Samsung announced the Galaxy Alpha, I was a bit shocked at first. It was very clear that Samsung was making an attempt to step up its design game a bit. Well, here we are beyond its release and today we’re going to find out what the Galaxy Alpha is all about. It may not be a life changing device, but for Samsung it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

Let me start out by saying that the Galaxy Alpha is bit hard to understand initially. It seems that Samsung didn’t want to put the pedal to the metal, so instead we’re left with what may be considered the best of both worlds, having metal and plastic as main parts of the Alpha’s design. All that aside, one this is very clear: If you know the Samsung Galaxy S5, you already know the Galaxy Alpha, but I don’t think this device was ever meant to shake the industry…

Samsung Galaxy Alpha launching exclusively on AT&T this Friday, September 26th

AT&T took to its YouTube channel this morning, uploading a video that outlines all the great features of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Alpha handset. Sadly, this video came without any real information about when the handset will be coming to the carrier, much less how much it might cost. Not long after that happened, Samsung expectedly made its formal announcement, telling us that the phone will be available from September 26th, will come in three colors, and will start at the usual $199 on contract.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha: Hands-on and first impressions (Video)

Samsung recently announced the Note 4 which sports a new premium design with a metal frame, but before that came the metal-framed Galaxy Alpha. This device flew under the radar for many because it was announced at a very random press event in Russia last month. Unfortunately, the only way I can describe this device is being, “Samsung’s iPhone.” That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it seriously looks like an iPhone…

Samsung champions metal frame, curved corners & finish of Galaxy Alpha in new blog post

Site default logo image

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_I4Ab_LdxQ]

Samsung has put together a blog post extolling the virtues of the metal frame, curved corners and finish of the handset it created to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone, the Galaxy Alpha. It follows an earlier post on the making of the phone.

The prose is best described as stilted, but the general idea is that every element of the design has a reason behind it. Metal, we are told, offers “thinness, style and a comfortable grip.” And just in case anyone should accuse them of copying the iPhone in switching from plastic to metal, Samsung is quick to point out it started making metal phones back in 2006 – a year before the first iPhone …

Report: Samsung will follow metal Galaxy Alpha w/ more high-end A series smartphones

Site default logo image

According to a new report from the often reliable SamMobile blog, Samsung is about to follow up its recently introduced Galaxy Alpha smartphone with more high-end devices under the “A series” family. The report points to evidence that the Galaxy Alpha, which received much attention for its metal body and high-end specs, is just the first device with three more on the way soon:

FCC filing reveals height & width (but not depth) of Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Site default logo image

A few days after we saw new photos of the upcoming metal-bodied Samsung Galaxy Alpha in white, an FCC filing spotted by phoneArena reveals the height and width.

Listed only by its FCC ID of A3LSMG850F, the dimensions fit earlier rumors that the handset would be smaller than the Galaxy S5, with a 4.8-inch 720p display in place of the S5’s 5.1-inch 1080p screen. The dimensions are shown as 133x67mm, around a centimetre shorter and about half a centimetre narrower than the S5 …

We’ve seen our fair share of Samsung Galaxy Alpha rumors, and it looks to be the handset that the Korean company is prepping to take the lead in the upcoming battle of next-generation of flagship smartphones. We’ve seen it pictured plenty of times now, but this is the first time we’ve seen it in white.

Here’s a look at Samsung’s metallic Galaxy Alpha

Site default logo image

Rumor has it that Samsung is preparing to announce a metal smartphone referred to as the Samsung Galaxy Alpha and thanks to a set of photos obtained by SamMobile, we now have an idea of what this mystery device might look like. Perhaps not a premium version of the Galaxy S5, the Alpha is rumored to be made out of metal and will launch with a smaller 4.7-inch display, 32GB of storage (no microSD card slot) and a fingerprint scanner.

T-Mobile to launch Samsung Galaxy Avant on July 30th with remote unlocking capabilities

While the Senate recently passed a bill that could make it easier for Android smartphone users to switch carriers after their contract is through, unlocking a smartphone remains a tedious and often costly process in the United States and elsewhere. T-Mobile, continuing its efforts to eliminate the so-called “pain points” associated with carriers, is aiming to solve that problem.

Samsung reportedly launching all-metal Galaxy Alpha smartphone next month

Site default logo image

According to a new report out of Korean news outlet ETNews, Samsung is preparing to launch an all-metal device as early as next month called the Galaxy Alpha. According to the report, Samsung intends to heavily market the device as a competitor to Apple’s upcoming iPhone 6.

According to industry insiders on July 13, the Galaxy Alpha, which Samsung will launch next month, is a premium smartphone made of a metal. It is forecast to counter the iPhone 6 scheduled to be released in September. It appears that Samsung will rebound from its recent poor performance with a new smartphone lineup, not the Galaxy S or Galaxy Note Series.
