Update brings WiFi calling to Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be the first phones on Verizon to get WiFi calling through a software update rolling out now. Other Verizon Android and iOS phones will get WiFi calling early next year. In addition, the Samsung updates also includes other new features and bug fixes.

WiFi calling is a part of Advanced Calling, a branded feature set of Verizon’s LTE network that also includes HD voice calls and video calls over cellular. The feature is available for free to customers calling US numbers through the stock dialer app.

Today’s update to Samsung devices also includes enhanced conference calling, HiFi audio, and Live Video Broadcast. There are also fixes to wireless charging and ALM. Owners of these two phones should head on to Settings > System Update > Check for new to get the new update. Go to Samsung’s page for more details about the update.

‘Project Lucky’ Samsung handset, likely the Galaxy S7, appears in benchmarks

A Galaxy S7 render that’s not real at all

Samsung brought the Galaxy Note5 (sic) and Galaxy S6 Edge+ to market faster than expected (maybe to beat the Apple hype train?), and it looks like they’re pushing the next flagship Galaxy S handset — assumably the Galaxy S7 — through production just as fast. A Samsung device simply labeled as “Lucky-LTE” made its way through Geekbench yesterday, and now a report from the usually-reliable SamMobile claims that the device is indeed an early prototype of the Samsung Galaxy S7…

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ hands-on and first impressions [Video]

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge+ is an entirely new device to which we were recently introduced. This is Samsung’s new phablet that doesn’t include a stylus. So what makes this device so special? Honestly, I’m not sure. It’s literally a scaled up Galaxy S6 Edge. Nothing more, nothing less. If you wanted a larger device with curves, Samsung has you covered. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ features the same design when compared to the Note 5 and previous releases from Samsung this year. While that’s definitely not a bad thing, it means you’re stuck with the model you buy and everything is sealed inside…

Picture of a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ dummy unit leaks out

If you’ve been following the Samsung rumor mill, you know that the Korean company is getting ready to launch at least a couple of new phones later this year. The Galaxy Note 5 is definitely one of the more anticipated Samsung handsets of the year, but it seems pretty clear that the company wants to release at least one variant of the Galaxy S6 line as well. Now we have even more evidence of that, with a photo of a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ dummy unit…

The photo (via AllAboutSamsung) is not anything remarkable, but it is the first time we’ve seen the Galaxy S6 Edge+ branding in the flesh. Other than that though, as you might guess, the S6 Edge+ doesn’t look to be anything more than a big version of the S6 Edge. If recent rumors are correct, Samsung is going with an Exynos 7420 and 3 GB RAM. SamMobile claims that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will be unveiled on August 12th.

New designs of purported Galaxy S6 Edge Plus further corroborate device’s existance

Notorious leaker @OnLeaks, real name Steve Hemmerstoffer, has shared a new CAD design of what purports to be the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.

Samsung finally takes the wraps off its Iron Man-themed Galaxy S6 Edge (Video)

Samsung has been teasing its Iron Man-themed Galaxy S6 Edge for quite some time now, and today the Korean company finally came out to show the world what the device has to offer. The Iron Man Galaxy S6 edge variant features a primarily gold and red design, 64 GB of flash storage, a clear back cover, special packaging, custom Iron Man software, and most of all, a wireless charger that looks a lot like an Arc Reactor.

Samsung reportedly launching ‘Iron Man’ Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge variants

According to a report this morning from the Korea Times, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are about to get an Avengers makeover. In partnership with Marvel, the Korean company supposedly said that it will release “Iron Man versions” of its two flagships, assumably to help promote (as if it needed help being promoted) the recently-released Avengers: Age of Ultron film…

iFixit tears down the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, gives us a look behind its curved screen

iFixit has been hard at work tearing down the latest round of Android flagships, and following last week’s pull-apart of the HTC One M9, we now have a look at the inside of the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge. Smartphones in general have been breaking records for difficulty in repairability, but it seems that this year’s phones in particular are especially a pain, and the S6 edge is absolutely no exception. In fact, the S6 edge is taking a two-point hit in repairability compared to the S5…

Samsung issues Q1 2015 earnings guidance, expects another year-over-year decrease in revenue & profit

Site default logo image

Samsung this evening has released its earnings guidance for Q1 of 2015. The company expects to, yet again, post a decline in profit and revenue year-over-year. Samsung expects its operating profit for Q1 2015 to be $5.43 billion (5.9 trillion won), which beats analyst estimates of $4.8 billion (5.3 trillion won). The company expects revenue of 46 trillion won, which is slightly lower than estimates of 49.8 trillion won.

Galaxy S6 edge gets the bend test, actually fares worse than the iPhone 6 Plus (Video)

The iPhone 6 Plus launch was riddled with endless #bendgate drama, but it looks like the latest flagship from Samsung doesn’t fare much better than Apple’s flagship—at least according to this test. Dozens of YouTube videos have given the latest iPhone line the beating, but now it looks like it’s time for the 2015 round of Android flagships to get tested as well…

An early review of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge has arrived (Video)

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge isn’t due to release for a few more weeks, but it looks like one of the first reviews is already here. The video uploaded by BeginnersTech on YouTube explains the standout “Edge” features of the device, provides a closer look at the hardware/software, and offers some opinions on the new dual-curved device.

We initially went hands-on with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge at MWC 2015, and while the launch is right around the corner it appears that Ryan from BeginnersTech managed to get his hands on the device early. If you’re curious as to how this device compares to the Galaxy S6, check out our hands-on/comparison video, but you can find the early review video below…
