We’ve been a bit critical of the Honor 6X as of yet, since the phone ships with somewhat outdated software and Honor’s track record with updates isn’t the best. But even considering that, it’s hard not to give Honor credit for making a phone that’s simply a great value for the money when you consider its specifications. The phone has Android Marshmallow (soon-ish to be Nougat), a 12MP main camera, 32GB of storage space, 3GB of RAM, and a FHD 1920 x 1080 display.

With each year that passes, Huawei seems to make a bigger push into the US market. So far in 2017, the company has released the Huawei Mate 9 and Honor 6X in the United States — two phones that have proven to be worth your time and attention. B

oth the Mate 9 and Honor 6X were competitively priced for their respective markets, but even so, both devices are now getting permanent price cuts.

Honor debuted its mid-range 6X back at CES 2017, and while it’s a pretty good smartphone overall, it shipped with one mind-boggling issue — it came out of the box with Marshmallow and Huawei’s terrible EMUI 4. The company said that it would be updated “soon,” and today, it’s finally living up to that promise, albeit a bit late.

Despite its flaws, the Honor 6X is a surprisingly solid mid-range device. Its biggest flaw, though, is the software layer. The Honor 6X was one of a few phones announced back at CES, but first impressions weren’t all that great. The main sore spot with the device was the software. With stronger options available from the company, it was tough to recommend the 6X with the software it originally shipped with. However, that’s soon changing, as Honor is preparing a major update for the phone.

Honor promises Android Nougat for the Honor 6X within the next couple of months

At CES 2017 Honor announced the 6X which is the company’s budget device that features mid-tier specs and a $249 price tag. Unfortunately, though, the public’s first reaction to the phone was rather negative mainly because of several aspects of the handset that are a bit outdated. The biggest of which is the fact that Honor is shipping the 6X to customers still running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Thankfully, Honor does promise to update the phone to Nougat (EMUI 5.0) sometime in the second quarter…

Last year Honor helped change the game in terms of hardware on budget devices with the Honor 5X, but it wasn’t a perfect device. It lacked a bit in terms of specifications, and the pre-loaded software didn’t help matters. Now, Honor is bringing the successor to that device, the Honor 6X, to the United States.
