LG G6

We’re just a few weeks away from LG’s launch of the LG G6, and as we get closer, the leaks continue to pour out. Recently we’ve seen renders showing off thin bezels, some very unfinished prototypes, and even heard details on the phone’s specs. Today, though, Business Insider has gotten its hands on a new image of the G6, showing us a near-final unit for the first time.

We’re just a few weeks away from LG’s official announcement of the LG G6 ahead of MWC, and so far we’ve already learned a pretty good deal about the device. We know it’ll pack a 5.7-inch display with super-slim bezels as has been depicted. Today, though, we’re getting a new look at the phone, or, at least an early prototype.

LG has announced that it lost KRW 258.80 billion ($223.98M) in Q4 of last year, its first loss in six years. The company admitted that poor sales of its modular G5 smartphone and subsequent marketing costs were a significant factor. The company restructured its mobile division last year as the company struggled to sell the handset.

Due to losses from mobile communications and vehicle components, LG reported a fourth-quarter net loss of KRW 258.80 billion (USD 223.98 million) […] Profitability was hampered by weak sales of the G5 smartphone and higher marketing investments.

One item in LG’s report was notable by its absence …

During 2016, deciding which flagship smartphone to buy didn’t come down to the specs, but to all the other factors at play. Why? Because just about every flagship last year shipped with the same specs. Between LG G5, Galaxy S7, and HTC 10, it was basically the same across the board. However, if recent reports turn out to be true, things may be a bit different this year.

LG is the latest company to officially announce that they will be hosting an event at MWC 2017 next month. With a silhouette of a phone on their invite, it’s more than likely that the flagship G6 will be announced at the February 26th press conference.

With LG in decline due to its mobile division, the company is attempting a turnaround with its upcoming G6. In an interesting move, LG Displays has announced a 5.7-inch QHD+ LCD panel that will be supplied “to LG Electronics for its next flagship smartphone this year.”

As 2016 comes to a close, all attention is being shifted toward next year’s flagships. After the disappointment of the LG G5 and (reportedly) slim sales of the LG V20, we’re hoping for a winner with the LG G6. Whether or not we’ll get that remains to be seen, but today we’re learning a lot more about LG’s upcoming flagship.
