Google’s Pixel C tablet gets a huge price cut in the UK, still $599 in the US

It’s been nearly 2 years since Google released a proper tablet. Don’t get me wrong, the Pixelbook is a great machine, but sometimes a tablet is just better at times. I absolutely loved my time with the Pixel C back in the day, but it’s $599 price in 2017 is just ridiculous. Now, Google is giving its only tablet a price cut… at least in the UK.

Do you like the look of the new multitasking menu found on the Pixel C? [Poll]

Site default logo image

Today Google pushed out the second public beta of Android 7.1.2 to Nexus and Pixel devices. For the most part, this update brought with it performance improvements, but the Pixel C got a refreshed look and feel as well as the addition of a new grid-style multitasking menu. Do you like the look of the new menu and think it should be the default on tablets?

Android 7.1.2 adds Pixel Launcher, new nav buttons, and a crazy new multitasking menu to the Pixel C

Despite having the same name as the Pixel smartphone, Google hasn’t shown the same favor to the Pixel C tablet. Where the Pixel phones have had early access to things like Google Assistant and to new software versions, the Pixel C has been treated like a Nexus ─ that’s to say kept up to date but not given any preferential treatment. However, that has seemingly changed today…

Got a device with USB-C? Here are a few useful gadgets you might want to pick up

usbc_gadgets

It’s been almost a year since I bought my first device with USB-C, the Nexus 6P. At first, the standard was still so young that it was pretty difficult to find accessories that worked properly and were actually useful. Fast forward to now and the market has changed, thanks in no small part to the growing number of USB C powered smartphones and tablets on the available today…

Marshmallow-based Remix OS 3.0 ROM now available for the Nexus 9 and Pixel C

Remix_OS_desktop

Multi-tasking on Android has never been great and while it is getting some major improvements with Android Nougat, it still can’t beat a standard desktop OS. The goal of Jide’s Remix OS has always been to create an OS based on Android that does multi-tasking well, and after releasing the latest version last week, Remix OS 3.0 is now available for Google’s most recent tablets.

Amazon bans the sale of dodgy USB Type-C connectors and adapters

nexus-6p-usb-type-c

Following the launch of the Type-C equipped Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C devices, Google engineer Benson Leung set out to save us from all the dodgy non-compliant cables and adapters available on Amazon. Without the correct technical compliance, a Type-C adapter could charge a device too slowly, or at worst, ruin the product. Following Leung’s extensive testing, Amazon has now prohibited the sale of non-compliant accessories.

Pixel C’s February security patch also updates the keyboard’s firmware

Screenshot_20160204-084717

The Pixel C is likely the most baffling and bug riddled product that Google launched last year. During an AMA after the product’s launch, the Pixel team promised updates in line with Android’s monthly security patches. As part of this month’s updates, the keyboard accessory received a firmware update that hopefully address connectivity issues.

Android 6.1 rumored to arrive in June 2016, split-screen support in tow

android-marshmallow-update-1200-80

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Google’s engineers are already working on baked-in split-screen multitasking support for Android. This was after the Pixel C team opened an AMA on Reddit to offer potential and existing customers the opportunity to pick their brains. Unsurprisingly, the topic of split-screen came up more than once. While some OEMs, like Samsung and LG, have built the feature in to their Android skins, Google is yet to bake it in to the core Android software.

Pixel C review roundup: Good hardware, but Android on tablets needs serious work

Pixel-C-Keyboard

Affirming last week’s rumors, the Pixel C is now available for purchase. Android on tablets have had a varied history and unfortunately this one suffers from the same usual friction of putting what is essentially a phone OS on a large screen. However, the device is not completely without merit on the hardware side and accompanying software updates might change that in the future.

Pixel C spotted in benchmarks, speedy Android 6.0.1 and 3GB of RAM in tow

pixel-c

This week, a rumor going around stated that the Pixel C would be available for sale starting on December 8th. Beyond a brief Twitter mention and the knowledge that the product would be launching in time for the holiday season, we have not heard much about Google’s productivity-focused tablet. However, the launch rumor is gaining credence as the device has been spotted on a GFXBench and Geekbench benchmark.

Sketchy Pixel C rumor predicts December 8 retail launch for the powerful all-metal Android tablet

pixel-c

According to a report by Dutch-language tech site, Tweakers, Google is planning to start selling the Pixel C Android tablet from December 8th on the Play Store. The site claims that it will be offering both the 32GB and 64GB variants of Pixel C in the Netherlands on that date, suggesting we’ll see a global launch next week too. If true, it’d be highly unlikely that Google would release a product in the Netherlands before major markets like the US, UK, Germany and France.

While we can’t vouch for the site’s information, it certainly fits in with Google’s plans to launch it by the end of the year. Pricing will purportedly be €499 and €599 respectively for the 32GB and 64GB models, while the keyboard will allegedly cost €169 in Europe. In the US, prices will be $499, $599 and $149 for the two tablets and keyboard.

The Pixel C is Google’s first attempt at making its own tablet hardware and, in many ways, replaces the Nexus tablet range. While we may yet see another Nexus tablet, Google has seen a need to make its own powerful, pure Android tablet with a detachable keyboard to compete with the likes of Apple and Microsoft. Google’s all-metal Pixel C features a 10.2-inch screen boasting a resolution of 2560×1800 pixels and a quad-core processor made by NVIDIA. There’s also 3GB RAM, full USB Type-C support and it runs Android Marshmallow.

The keyboard has its own built-in battery and connects to the tablet via Bluetooth, and will come in two different finishes: Leather and Aluminum.

Google confirms its ‘Pixel C’ Android tablet w/ detachable keyboard, Android Marshmallow, more

Screen Shot 2015-09-29 at 18.11.38

Google has today confirmed that it’s introducing the next entry in its Pixel line: the Pixel C. This tablet, unlike the Pixel devices that preceded it, will launch not with Chrome OS, but with Android — 6.0 Marshmallow to be exact. The device also offers a detachable keyboard — taking on the likes of Microsoft’s Surface and the iPad Pro — and comes with the same high-quality build found with the original Pixels. And like the original Pixels, this device isn’t a Nexus; it’s completely made by Google in-house, and there’s no tramp stamp from any other OEM to be found on its body.

Google reportedly planning to launch a 10.2-inch ‘Pixel C’ tablet w/ Android Marshmallow, detachable keyboard, more

chromebook-pixel.jpg (1600×1066) 2015-09-28 12-38-54

Google is planning to launch a large, 10.2-inch tablet with the Pixel brand attached, according to a report this morning from Android Police. Interestingly, this device is said to be launching later this year not with Chrome OS, but rather with Android Marshmallow. The device will also purportedly sport a detachable keyboard — a la the iPad Pro or the Microsoft Surface — and will pack the same quality build and lightbar found with the Chromebook Pixel. And, since this is a Pixel device and not a Nexus, the hardware is going be 100% Google’s…
