Yahoo unveils new suite of dev tools including search integration for other apps

After announcing its first dev con last December, Yahoo today kicked off its mobile developer conference in San Francisco where it unveiled five new products for mobile app makers. As suspected, Yahoo revealed the latest tools from Flurry, the mobile ad and analytics firm it acquired last July.

This includes Flurry Analytics Explorer, a new dashboard for the Flurry Analytics system which it says enables developers to discover more insights with than before, and Flurry Pulse, which lets app builders “share app signals with partners using their existing Flurry SDK implementations and the click of a button.”

Android developers blog highlights “Beautiful Design Winter 2013 Collection” on Google Play

For the second time this year, Google’s Android Developers Blog is highlighting some of the best designed apps for the Android platform. We all know that app design guidelines can be used to ensure a great user experience so it’s no surprise Google chose 11 apps this time around that “go above and beyond the [design] guidelines.”

Facebook adds content from Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr & Instagram to Home lock screen

Zuckerberg recently announced that the company had plans to bring content from additional online sources to the lock screen for those using Facebook Home, and today that feature has officially been introduced in the latest Facebook for Android beta release.

At first, Facebook is adding content from Flickr, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Instagram to the Facebook Home lock screen allowing users to swipe through photos and posts alongside Facebook content. Here’s how it works:

Tumblr for Android updated with new discovery options

Hot on the heels of an iOS update this morning, Tumblr for Android has been updated with some new search and discovery features. You now have the ability to search for tags and blogs, as well as explore trending tags and blogs, and follow recommended blogs. Various bugs have been fixed, as well.

The update is available now on Google Play.

Tumblr for Android updated with new, snappier UI

Tumblr, a popular blogging service, was updated today with a slew of new features. Most notably, the app features an upgraded user-interface that looks great. Posting on your blog is now much easier and snappier thanks to this update. Tumblr for Android also features “Tumblr Radar,” which displays top posts from across Tumblr’s network of blogs. If you update today, you will notice better photo-browsing and multiple blog notifications. You can check out the full release notes after the break.

Famed ‘Instagram’ app is now available at Google Play

The widely popular “Instagram” iOS app is now available for Android devices at Google Play.

The iTunes-friendly version showcases 30 million users and holds Apple’s 2011 iPhone App of the Year crown. The Android community patiently waited for a Google variant, and now it can finally propel mobile snapshots to the retro days with snazzy filters and effects.

“Today, we’re excited to bring you Instagram for Android,” announced Instagram on its official blog. “We’ve been meticulous about translating the Instagram experience to the Android platform. The Android app offers an extremely familiar Instagram experience when compared to the iOS app.”
