Google said to be planning iOS support for Android Wear, could debut at I/O conference

Site default logo image

Last month a developer managed to hack together a solution that enabled iPhone users to see their notifications on Google’s Android-powered wearable operating system, but at the moment there is no official way to use the two competing platforms together. That could change at Google’s annual I/O conference later this year, if new rumors are to be believed.

According to French tech blog 01Net, Google is developing an update to Android Wear that would enable it work with Apple’s iOS devices…

Gartner: iPhone sales led Q4 2014, but Samsung won year where 1b smartphones were sold

Site default logo image

Gartner is out with its latest report tracking smartphone movement during the previous year and more specifically the holiday quarter.

Headlining the report is news that over 1 billion smartphones were sold in 2014, a data point IDC first said was hit in the previous year, adding that two out of three phones sold last year qualified as smartphones.

Gartner’s data shows Apple topped Samsung in worldwide smartphone sales with 74,832,000 units shipped during the holiday quarter, just 1.8 million units more than Samsung, giving Apple 20.4% market share for the quarter, a virtual tie with Samsung’s 19.9%.

Coming up behind Apple and Samsung is Lenovo (which includes sales of Motorola-branded phones), Huawei, and Xiaomi with single digit market share. The collective group of others which amount to 42.4% of the holiday quarter sales.

HTC announced its new One M9 flagship yesterday, but the company also took time to tell us about the GRIP fitness device they’re working on with Under Armour and the new Vive virtual reality headset being made in partnership with Valve. Sunday in the United States feels like an odd time for all of these announcements to have happened (meaning they caught many of us off guard), but if you’re one of those that missed the keynote, you’re in luck. HTC has this morning uploaded the full press event video to YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

LG debuts Urbane LTE, the world’s first 4G-capable smartwatch, with proprietary WebOS-based software

Site default logo image

LG today unveiled the world’s first LTE-equipped smartwatch, dubbed the LG Watch Urbane LTE. Unlike other recent smartwatches, the Urbane LTE doesn’t run Google’s Android Wear operating system, with the maker opting to install its own proprietary software that, according to CNET, is based on the defunct WebOS. The non-LTE Urbane, revealed earlier this month, still runs Google’s OS.

The metal watch features three buttons to control the interface and sports what LG says is the “world’s first NFC-based Wallet,” allowing users to make payments with the Urbane LTE at NFC-compatible retailers. A heart rate monitor is also built-in, along with a barometer, compass, gyroscope, and GPS. Voice recognition software provides a handy auto-translation feature.

Review: A-Audio’s Icon headphones pack Bluetooth and active noise cancellation in a premium package (Video)

These days, it seems like there is an endless variety of headphones to choose from. With new models popping up on a weekly basis, it’s hard to sort through the crowd to find the ones that fit you best. When it comes to active noise cancellation this elite selection thins out a bit, but there are only a handful that fall into the same category as A-Audio’s Icon over-ear headphones.

From a functionality perspective, these headphones give you everything but the kitchen sink. They can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth with active noise cancellation, in passive (wired) mode, and even feature dual sound profiles. Along with that, they include a wide variety of accessories that offer more than enough for any situation…
