Moto X Pure Edition (also known as Moto X style internationally) was unveiled by Motorola in July of 2015, becoming its top-of-the-line offering for those looking for a good-looking powerhouse. The company also unveiled a second Moto X called the Moto X Play (later to be known as the Droid Maxx 2 in the US), which is more rugged and offers better battery, but is less powerful in terms of tech specs.

It packs a 5.7-inch Quad HD display and the Snapdragon 808 running at 1.8 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, 4G LTE, and storage tiers at 16, 32, and 64 GB. The phone has a beastly 21-megapixel main camera w/ a f/2.0 aperture and 4K video capture, a dual-tone flash, a 5-megapixel front cam, and a front-facing flash as well. As for the battery, the Style sits at 3,000 mAh.

The Moto X Pure Edition is customizable via Moto Maker just like its predecessors, and introduced a new silicon rubber material as a new back option.

Motorola to offer an unlocked bloatware-free Moto X later this month

Between manufacturer and carrier gunk, Android is often weighed down by unwanted bloatware. When looking for a high-end handset, software purists are often pushed towards Nexus devices from Google, or stripped down ROMs furnished by software development communities. However, the folks at Motorola are looking to break this cycle with the release of its 2014 edition Moto X.

Android 4.4.4 now available for Rogers Moto X

Better late than never, Canadian wireless carrier Rogers’ version of the original Moto X is finally getting its dose of Android 4.4.4. If you haven’t received an over-the-air notification, the update can be initiated through the phone’s settings by tapping: Settings, About phone, System updates, and then selecting the install option.

Motorola announces updated Moto X and Moto G smartphones, Moto Hint Bluetooth headset

Motorola has just announced the newest additions to its smartphone lineup: the second-generation models of the Moto X and Moto G, and a Bluetooth headset called Hint.

First up is the new Moto X. It looks a lot like the previous model, but don’t be fooled: it’s got an entirely new spec list and even some tweaks to the design. The display is now 1080p versus the first-gen’s 720p version, and has gotten a slight size bump up to 5.2 inches. The edge of the phone is also now wrapped with aluminum rather than plastic. The camera has been bumped to 13 megapixels and now shoots 4k video (compared to a 10 MP still shooter with 1080p video support on the last model).

The Moto Maker online tool for customizing your phone has also been updated with new options, including custom colors for the volume rocker and power button. New back plate options include the previous wood design, as well as a line of all-new real leather options.

There is definitely a lot of confusion surrounding what day Motorola is actually announcing their new products, and while the company sent out invitations for what was an event on September 4th, it turns out the official public announcements aren’t happening until 1:30 PM CT on September 5th. The wait to hear about the new Moto X, Moto G, and the Moto 360 smartwatch (and some kind of ear accessory) is almost over, and you’ll find the streaming video below.

Motorola’s next-gen Moto X for AT&T appears in FCC filing ahead of launch?

Droid-Life points us to a new FCC filing for a mysterious Motorola device that is likely the rumoured Moto X+1 headed for AT&T.

The report notes that the device supports AT&T connectivity and also shares some details on size that would line up with leaks of a 5.2-inch display expected for the next-gen Moto X: The FCC measurements indicate that this Motorola phone is 140×72.6mm – the Galaxy S5 is 142×72.5mm. The new Moto X is expected to sport a 5.2-inch display, with much less bezel than the GS5, which would certainly put them around the same size, even with a slightly larger display on the new Moto.

We’ve seen several leaks of the next-gen Moto X that many are referring to as the Moto X+1. That latest leak came earlier this month when press renders from Verizon appeared online giving us a clear look at the yet to be announced device.

Motorola offering free wood back on Moto X purchases through August 21

The Moto X has been out for a while now and it’s very likely—almost certain—that we’ll be seeing the unveiling of its successor sooner rather than later. And as may be partly due to this fact, the company is now offering the famed wooden back on its Moto Maker website for free through August 21st (via Android Central).

Motorola has offered countless discounts on the Moto X and its accessories over the last year, so this really comes at no real surprise. The wood back would normally tack an additional $25 onto the purchase of this off-contract $350 phone. Included in the promotion are all four styles, including walnut, ebony, bamboo, and teak.

Moto X+1 shows up in more benchmarks, corroborates previous hardware rumors

Motorola just started sending out invites for a September 4th event, and it appears that there are going to be four stars of that show. One of them is expected to be the much-rumored next-generation Motorola flagship dubbed the “X+1,” and once again, some benchmarks for a not-so-mysterious device with model number XT1097 have appeared on the internet (via Phone Arena). The latest tests show some of the very same hardware that has been rumored for this particular device in the past, and with the announcement not far off, there’s a good chance it’s real.

AT&T Moto X updated to Android 4.4.4

After watching UK and Verizon Moto X owners receive their Android 4.4.4 updates, AT&T customers are now being awarded the latest version of KitKat for Motorola’s popular smartphone. This new software push squashes some system bugs and adds a few performance enhancement’s to the Moto X’s camera, including the ability to pause video while recording.

The not so subtle invite displays a picture of a watch (Moto 360), a phone with an X (maybe a Moto X+1?), a phone with a G (we’re thinking Moto G2) and a headset that’s likely some type of new wireless accessory.

Verizon reportedly set to launch new Moto X on September 25

Pictured above is a box for an alleged Verizon-bound device from Motorola that carries the model number XT1096. Although we’ve heard rumors about new Motorola-made devices heading to Big Red, it’s really hard to tell what this mystery gadget may be. The soon to be former Google-owned company recently scored a trademark for the name “Moto Maxx,” which could possibly be heading to Verizon.

Verizon Moto X updated to Android 4.4.4

Last Friday, Verizon began soak testing the Android 4.4.4 update on the Moto X. Today, Verizon officially began rolling out the update to all users. The update, which focuses primarily on camera enchantments lists “improved camera picture quality” and “improved photos in fluorescent lighting” as the two main changes. Other changes include a “new graphical layout” to the phone dialer and overall “consistency and usability” improvements.

Leaked Moto X+1 prototype reveals aluminum trim and a dual-LED camera flash

Another day, another set of leaked Moto X+1 images. Today’s pictures are of a “near-final prototype” build of the device and they manage to reveal some new information about the unannounced handset. For starters, the X+1 is said to have a 5.1-inch display, so it’s a little larger than its predecessor. The device doesn’t have any capacitive buttons and has a loudspeaker below its display, similar to the design of the budget-friendly Moto E.

Lucky for you, the phone won’t be stuck with any plain jane design; you can customize it as much as you like using the famed Moto Maker. If you’re fond of the famed wooden custom backplates, it’s only going to cost you an extra $25. As for cases, Motorola says that they’re 50% off with this deal.

The Moto X has seen many a price drop dating back to as far as November of last year. And it makes sense that Motorola would want to be pushing stock, as rumors of the Moto X + 1 are most definitely swirling.

You can now build a custom Moto X in Germany

Motorola introduced the Moto Maker alongside the Moto X, and almost a year later (while rumors of the Moto X+1 continue to swirl vigorously), German citizens can now use the famed custom phone design web interface (via Android Central). To get started, head over to the Motorola Germany website and design your new (old?) smartphone to your heart’s content. You’ll have to purchase the phone from the German retailer Phone House, and once you’ve done that, you’re free to put as much natural material on your phone’s back as you want. Additionally, you can choose black or white for the front panel and pick between 12 accent colors. And, a la Apple’s custom engraved backs, you can slap a short message on the back of the device if you wish.

New press render shows what could be the Moto X+1, possibly to be unveiled at I/O

We’ve been hearing quite a bit recently about the upcoming Moto X+1, which is expected to be Motorola’s next flagship smartphone. Now, 9to5Google has received what appears to be a promotional render for what is said to be that device from a source we consider reliable.

While a lot of information has already been leaked about this phone, one new feature revealed by this source is the apparent inclusion of a front-facing speaker at the bottom of the phone, though the purpose for that hardware (beyond possible music playback or speakerphone support) is still uncertain.

The source says it’s possible this phone will be revealed at Google’s I/O developer conference. If that’s the case, it would make sense for promotional images to start floating around about this time as the company prepares to unveil the next-gen device.

Although Motorola has yet to formally announce the Moto X+1, we’ve seen our share of alleged photos and videos of this phantom smartphone. Today, however, we’re getting the clearest shot to date of the rumored handset, courtesy of @evleaks. Unlike previous sketchy images, this front and back pair of photos appear to be press renders of the Moto X successor dressed up in some type of case.

Motorola has been aggressively pushing its Moto X lately, but the smartphone’s rumored successor appears to be coming along. Pictured above is a purported shot of the Moto X+1 wrapped up in plastic like it was killed by a mafia hitman. Not exactly a fashion statement, the device’s operator claims that this was done to hide identifying markings on the handset.
