LG Nexus 5X prototype gets hands on treatment ahead of launch (Video)

By now we’ve all seen and heard pretty much there is to about the upcoming LG Nexus 5X. Thanks to some detailed leaks, we’ve seen everything from specs and design to its launch date and pricing. The 5.2-inch Nexus will be LG’s third pure Android device and is expected to launch later today for less than $400.

Just in time for the official announcement, YouTube channel UNDERkg has published a quick hands on video giving an overview and tour of the design and hardware features. It’s worth noting that this is a pre-release model which is missing much of the hardware required to power it on and use it. However, even with all the missing hardware, we still get a good look at the size of the device and how it will look in real life.

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gF90EMInXEk]

The video shows the mint green (or ‘Icy Blue’) version of the 5X, which we’re expecting to launch alongside a black and white model, with 16GB and 32GB storage options available for all three. With the rumored 1080 x 1920 resolution 5.2-inch display and Snapdragon 808 processor, the 5X could be one of the best sub-$400 devices on the market when it’s made available to order later today.

We’ll be bringing you plenty of reaction to the announcements after the event kicks off at 8am Pacific, in the mean time, be sure to check out our in-depth guide on what you should be expecting from the Google announcement in San Francisco this morning.

Poll: Are you planning to get the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P? (Or neither?)

Update: They’re here. Are you going to grab the Nexus 5X or the Nexus 6P?

As we sit here on the eve of Google’s September 29th event, and with almost every single detail of what the company is planning to announce already leaked, there is only one question that remains: Which of the two Nexus devices are you planning to buy? Follow along as we round up the details of each phone, and be sure to vote in the poll below…

Google reportedly planning to launch a 10.2-inch ‘Pixel C’ tablet w/ Android Marshmallow, detachable keyboard, more

Google is planning to launch a large, 10.2-inch tablet with the Pixel brand attached, according to a report this morning from Android Police. Interestingly, this device is said to be launching later this year not with Chrome OS, but rather with Android Marshmallow. The device will also purportedly sport a detachable keyboard — a la the iPad Pro or the Microsoft Surface — and will pack the same quality build and lightbar found with the Chromebook Pixel. And, since this is a Pixel device and not a Nexus, the hardware is going be 100% Google’s…

BlackBerry ‘Venice’ is coming to market as the ‘Priv’

According to a couple reports out this morning, the long-rumored Android-powered “Venice” smartphone on the way from BlackBerry is going to be called the “Priv” when it actually launches…

We’ve seen photos of the phone leak from multiple sources over the last month or two, and a couple of weeks ago a full gallery of shots surfaced showing the phone from all angles. We also recently saw a blurry cam picture taken by someone attending the Toronto Film Festival, showing the same Venice phone we’ve seen elsewhere, but with what looks to be case attached. Along the right side of the device in that image (and the others leaked in the full gallery), you can see two volume buttons aligned just like the ones of the Venice images that just surfaced last month.

If you want to see the phone in action, someone managed to post an entire hands-on video with the phone last week. Additionally, PhoneArena has revealed several specifications of the device, including a 1440 x 2560 QHD resolution display, 3 GB of RAM, an 18-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilization, and a battery somewhere in the range of 3,000 mAh. The software is clearly Android Lollipop, and BlackBerry will probably include security-related features and pre-packaged apps.

As the leaks continue to get more and more common, we’re definitely nearing its official announcement…

Infinix HOT 2 arrives as first Android One device in the United Arab Emirates

We’ve seen Android One devices land in a couple Middle East countries already, but now the program is coming to the United Arab Emirates. The Infinix Hot 2, which you can see in the image above, is now available exclusively from Souq.com

The 5-inch smartphone launches with a quad-core MediaTek processor, dual-SIM support, front and rear cameras (at 2 MP and 8 MP, respectively), 1 GB of RAM, and 16GB storage (expandable via microSD card). Out of the box, the phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, and the whole package will cost you AED 299 (or just about $80 in the equivalent US dollars). We saw the same phone launch in Africa earlier this year.

Interestingly, we have yet to see the official Android blog come out to brag about this launch. Android One has been introduced to many major markets this year, most recently including Europe with the BQ Aquaris A4.5, a new handset in India called the Lava Pixel V1, and a launch in Pakistan just a few months ago with the QMobile A1. According to a recent report, Google wants to halve the price of its Android One handsets in all of these markets.

Infinix Hot 2 becomes Middle East’s first Android One smartphone; launched exclusively onSouq.com

20 September 2015 Dubai, UAE– Infinix Mobility has announced the launch of the new Infinix Hot 2 phone in collaboration with Google™ to bring high-performance, low-cost Android™ experience to the Middle East. The device, which is the first smartphone on the Android One™ program in Middle East, will enable all users enjoy the latest version of Android with guaranteed software upgrades after release, premium hardware specs and a wide range of customized apps.

Speaking on the device, Benjamin Jiang, MD, Infinix Mobility, stated that the new Infinix Hot 2 will redefine the smartphone industry in Middle East. He said: “At Infinix we believe that Middle East end-users deserve to experience the latest smartphones at competitive price. That is why we are pleased to collaborate with Google to deliver this unique smartphone; the Infinix Hot 2. We are confident that the phone will push the frontiers of smartphone technology to the next level.”

Speaking in the same vein, Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Product Management at Google said “Google is pleased to collaborate with Infinix Mobility on Android One — a program designed to help bring high-quality, low-cost Android devices to everyone. We’re looking forward to working with Infinix Mobility to put a great smartphone into the hands of people in the Middle East.”.

Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & Co-Founder of Souq.com commented, “Souq.com is committed to the development of e-commerce in the MENA region of which consumer electronics (smartphones specifically) is the biggest industry sector. Today, Souq.com is championing the factory-to-consumer model through its unique partnerships by opening the market up and providing product diversity for our customers as well as making high-spec, world-leading technology more accessible. Infinix Mobility’s high-performance, great value Android Hot 2 could be a significant turning point in the smartphone ecosystem. We are excited to be exclusive partners and supporting Infinix Mobility in this launch.”

As with other phones running the latest Android Lollipop, users of the Infinix Hot 2 can automatically enable the new battery saver feature to extend battery life by 90 minutes. Users can also see the estimated time left before they need to recharge. And when charging, they can also see the estimated time for the battery to become fully charged. The operating system offers users more control over data usage by offering a two-quick swipe control to turn data on or off; they can also easily check data usage.

The Infinix Hot 2 is made of glossy materials that give users a luxury experience. Its cutting edge style was precisely designed to fit in the palm of a user; its style, display and architecture give it a unique design.
Powered by a Mediatek 1.3GHz Quad-Core Processor and a 1GB RAM, users can play 3D games on the Infinix Hot 2 in addition to an extraordinary experience while watching videos in high-definition (HD). The smartphone has a 2200mAh battery that allows users to enjoy the device for longer hours. The device runs on Android Lollipop and there will be automatic update to the latest version of Android when it becomes available.

The Infinix Hot 2 also comes with a 5.0 inch display and high-definition (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution that allows users to read and respond to messages directly from the lock screen and provides quick access to tools like the flashlight, Bluetooth, WI-Fi, and more- also standards available on the latest Android Lollipop.
Infinix Hot 2 has an 8.0 MP rear camera in addition to 5P Lens and 2MP front-facing camera. The metal camera decorative design makes the camera a bright spot on the back. It comes with true flash+ BSI. And even in dark light, users can still capture best shots. Camera not only allows you to take photos of things and people you love but also of you through the front camera. Infinix Hot 2 also comes with a beauty face option which captures a portrait and automatically adjusts the photo to create a more visually pleasing photo, making face smoother and brighter.
In addition to improved high dynamic range and low-dark current, the device perfectly complements the 5P lens which increases light sensibility by 30% thus making it possible for users to take high quality photos anywhere and anytime.

Leakster OnLeaks says that an LG G4 ‘Pro’ is still coming

LG G4c

The LG G4 was announced almost 6 months ago now, and it wasn’t long after that the rumors of a larger, speedier, and more-capable LG G4 “Pro” started to surface. Earlier this month, the well-connected David Ruddock came out to say that LG isn’t planning a “pro” or “premium” version of the G4 for this fall, but new information from a credible leakster suggests that such a device is still in the cards.

The next handset that we’ll see from LG is almost surely going to be the much-rumored Nexus 5X, set to be announced at Google’s September 29th event. Another handset has also been making the rounds, however, called the LG V10. This device purportedly packs a 5.7-inch screen, an auxiliary ticker display, and a Snapdragon 808 processor. We’ll see what LG announces on October 1st

Nexus 5 (2015) shows up again in leaked pics, purportedly in ‘mint green’ color

A couple of new photos have popped up on a Korean blog today, purporting to show LG’s upcoming Nexus 5 (X? 2015?). There’s nothing much here that we haven’t seen already, but the blog does claim that the phone will come in a “mint green” color variant. We believe that this is likely just a matter of a photo that needs a bit of color correction, however…

Xiaomi to unveil ‘new flagship’ Mi 4c on September 22

Xiaomi just announced on its official forums that it will be releasing a ‘new flagship’ device on September 22nd. The company is coy on what this new smartphone will feature, or where it will be released, but does state that it will be called the Mi 4c. This news comes just a couple of weeks after Xiaomi launched its budget phablet, the RedMi Note 2.

The current generation Mi 4 features a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and a 5-inch display as well as the go-to 13MP Sony camera sensor on the back. If we had to speculate, we’d guess that the quad-core chip will be swapped out in favor of a more current octa-core processor. Apart from that, your guess is as good as ours, although the ‘c’ does suggest we might see some colorful additions to the range. The current Mi 4 only ships in black or white.

In an attempt to perhaps tease us a little, Xiaomi does specifically, but cryptically mention availability in other countries, not just China:

And it is time to unveil Mi 4c now. Will it come to other countries or only be available in China? Forgive me that we can’t disclose much about the new model before the launch event on September 22. We will keep you updated with further details of the launch event and have a live thread on that day. Please stay tuned.

As always, Xiaomi will have a live thread updating on its forums as the device is being revealed, including which markets and regions will receive the smartphone.
