Motorola opening its first brick-and-mortar ’boutique’ retail store in Chicago this week

Motorola is opening its very first physical retail store later this week. Moto Shop, as it’s called, is opening in downtown Chicago, the company’s hometown, on Saturday, November 7, in time for holiday shopping to begin. In its blog post, the company notes that because smartphones and wearables have made powerful technology more personal, you should be able to go and experience them fully, in real life. Moto wants to make the shopping experience as personal as it can…

Google opens a Google Glass basecamp in London, UK

Today, Google announced that it has opened yet another Google Glass Basecamp, this time in London, UK. And while it may seem that Google has definitely put Glass on the back burner with the flurry of Android Wear announcements, this is a comforting reassurance that the Glass project hasn’t been abandoned. You can schedule a visit to the new Basecamp online, where you’re able to register for a “demo,” “try and buy,” a “fitting,” or “support.”

Report: AT&T retail stores to be one of the first in U.S. to offer Google Glass (update)

If you can believe it, Google Glass was announced nearly two years ago at Google I/O 2012, becoming available to “Explorers” for the steep price of $1,500. The device didn’t actually ship until nearly a year later, in February 2013, but multiple beta versions of Glass have been in these select few hands since. As for a date when the device would finally go public, Sergey Brin recently said at the Code Conference that Glass would be released this year “plus or minus,” leaving the question as open-ended as ever.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game swings onto Google Play

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLN3olo7xzA]

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 — the game, not the movie itself, which is due to be in theaters on May 2nd in the US — is available right now for Android. The game is priced at $4.99, and follows the same story as the movie (so you might get a sneak peek at some storyline). Developed by Gameloft, this movie-based title may not live up to the hype surrounding the movie. Regardless of how the graphics look, the gameplay seems solid, so this Spider-Man game may well make for a nice way to kill fifteen minutes here and there.

RadioShack announces plan to close 1,100 stores nationwide as smartphone sales fail to carry company

ABC News reports that RadioShack will close 1,100 stores following a disappointing holiday season and generally unsuccessful attempt to rebrand the chain as the go-to retailer for smartphones and accessories. The number represents about 20% of the electronics shop’s locations. The company previously announced plans to close only 400-700 stores.

That doesn’t mean RadioShack will be disappearing completely, though. Around 4,000 stores are still expected to remain open. While the cell phone business hasn’t been able to keep the entire company afloat, it has apparently provided enough fuel to keep the majority of the stores functional… for now, at least.

Google brings Android Market movie rentals to UK

Following the introduction of YouTube movie rentals and Google eBooks in the UK earlier this month, The Telegraph is reporting that Google has now opened up movie rentals to UK users via the Android Market.

Starting at £2.49, users have one of two choices for renting movies. Either grab the video app from the Market, or head over to market.android.com/movies to rent and watch films from your PC. Of course, films rented through either method will be available to watch through your phone, PC, or Android tablet during the rental period. As with the service in the US, you’ll have up to thirty days to watch a film after purchasing the rental. However, after the first play it will expire after 48 hours.
