LG G4 promo for free microSD card, battery, and battery cradle extended through June 30

LG really wants you to try the G4, and that’s not surprising – it’s a good phone! To try and entice you to buy one, though, they’ve extended the promotion they’re running through the 30th of this month.

If you buy a G4 and receive it anytime from now through the 30th, LG will give you a 32GB microSD card, an extra 3,000mAh removable battery, and a battery cradle so you can charge both of your batteries at the same time, all for free. All you have to do is visit this page and give LG some basic information like the IMEI/MEID of your phone and where you bought it from. The retail and carrier partners working with LG on this promo include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, U.S. Cellular, Best Buy, and Amazon.

The LG G4 doesn’t look too dissimilar from its predecessor on the outside, but on the inside it’s packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor (dual-core 1.8Ghz and a quad-core 1.44), the Adreno 418 GPU, a 3,000mAh battery, and 3GB of RAM. It also has a 5.5-inch display just like the G3, but the display is now a 2560 x 1440 IPS Quantum panel that’s very rich in color, brightness, and contrast, with an overall look that’s absolutely stunning. It’s worth checking out our review (which you can find here) for the full hands-on.

Virtual reality has consumer the smartphone market lately. It seems like every manufacturer is coming out with a smartphone compatible VR headsets. Recently, LG sent us its new VR for G3 headset to take a look at and we’ve been having a blast so far. Think of LG’s new VR headset as a premium version of Google Cardboard that’s tailored to fit the G3 in every way. It’s a very nice upgrade over Cardboard and the app selection for VR in Google Play is growing rapidly.

This whole VR movement is very cool, but it’s hard to explain in words what it’s actually like to use a VR headset. It’s just one of those things that you need to experience yourself. Well, thanks to the good people over at LG, we’re giving you a chance to win one of five LG G3 and VR headset packages…

A couple reports out of Korea today highlight some of LG’s plans for the relatively near future, including a statement (via Korea Times) from the company’s mobile chief Cho Jun-ho suggesting that the upcoming LG G4 is going to be “radically different” than its predecessor. The device will reportedly feature a “metal-mixtured” body and sport the company’s LG UX 4.0, which Cho says will be announced sometime before the new phone.

Also, LG also reportedly has a completely new device series in the works (via Korea Herald), featuring more powerful specs than the current top-of-the-line G series… expand full story

According to a new report from the Korea Times, LG has decided not to release its expected G4 flagship at Mobile World Congress next month. Instead, the company plans to release it on its own during April. Last year, the G3 was released on May 27th, but LG is believed to still anticipate releasing its successor before that day this year.

Deal Alert: LG G3 w/ free $100 Amazon gift card for $0.01 w/ 2-yr agreement or $479 off contract

From 9to5Toys.com:

The LG G3 is now available from Amazon for $0.01 on-contract (or $479 off-contract) with a free $100 Amazon gift card. This effectively brings the off-contract price (which notably is still locked to AT&T) down to $379, and means Amazon is basically giving you a free phone and paying you $100 to renew your contract if you go that route.

The phone is definitely cream-of-the-crop in terms of 2014 Android flagships. The device has a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and standard Bluetooth and LTE connectivity. LG posted its quarterly earnings numbers today and boasted  impressive numbers in its smartphone group. Globally, Smartphone sales were up 24% but in the US alone, smartphones shipments were up 78% for the quarter year over year. LG ended the year having moved 59.1 million smartphones, bolstered by its popular G3 flagship. Those aren’t Apple numbers by any stretch but still very solid.

LG also posted growth in its home entertainment sector but a net loss overall for the quarter mostly due to charges related to shutting down its Plasma business.

SEOUL, Jan. 29, 2015 ― LG Electronics Inc. (LG) today announced net profit of KRW 501.40 billion (USD 474.81million) for full-year 2014, an increase of 125 percent over 2013 net profit. Operating profit increased significantly in 2014 to KRW 1.83 trillion (USD 1.73 billion) from KRW 1.25 trillion (USD 1.14 billion) in 2013, an increase of 46 percent. Full-year consolidated revenue of KRW 59.04 trillion (USD 55.91 billion) was mainly boosted by a 24 percent increase in smartphone shipments.

The LG Mobile Communications Company reported a 16 percent increase in annual revenue to KRW 15.06 trillion (USD 14.26 billion) with help from North America, where shipments increased 78 percent during the fourth quarter of 2014 from the previous year. Fourth-quarter revenue of 3.78 trillion (USD 3.48 billion) was 5 percent higher than the same period in 2013. A total of 59.1 million smartphones were shipped in 2014, an increase of 24 percent from the previous year, among 78.2 million mobile handsets sold last year. Expecting a challenging year ahead with greater competition globally from various manufacturers, LG will concentrate on improving its brand power, operating more efficiently, and focusing on selective key markets.

Verizon and LG have partnered on a new version of the G3 which was unveiled today for World AIDS Day. The (PRODUCT)RED G3 features a “Blaze Red” body, but is otherwise exactly the same as the black and white models launched earlier this year.

For the uninitiated, the G3 includes a 5.5-inch display, 13 MP rear camera, and Android 4.4 (with Lollipop rolling out for it now). 9to5Google‘s Dom Esposito reviewed the device in June, calling it “the closest thing on the market to a no-compromise smartphone.”

LG’s twin-track smartphone strategy – offering both premium G-series models and cheaper L-series devices – appears to be working, with the company announcing Q3 smartphone sales up by 39% to 16.8M and operating profits more than doubled to 461B won ($440M). The results beat analyst expectations, and LG said that it was bullish about future prospects.

Building on its momentum and two consecutive profitable quarters, LG expects to strengthen its positioning in the smartphone market with its G Series and L Series models despite the landscape becoming more competitive

The G3 handset in particular has helped the company gain ground against its much larger Korean rival Samsung. Samsung is due to announce its own Q3 results tomorrow, but has already issued a profit warning on the basis of low average selling prices of its phones …  expand full story

When Oppo’s Find 7 was first announced, it was one of the front runners in its category. A smartphone with a 5.5-inch QHD display and the latest specs under the hood. Unfortunately, it took a while for it to be released and LG’s G3 took the QHD throne first. Either way, the Find 7 is a powerful smartphone that’s just as capable as its competition.

Today we’re taking a quick look at what this device has to offer. There are a lot of similarities between the Find 7 and LG G3. In some aspects they are the same phone, but which one is going to win at the end of the day? Due to carrier availability, LG might have this one in the bag.

g3-review

When the LG G3 was first announced, I wasn’t exactly sure what to think about it. Sure, the G2 was nice and had a beautiful display with some quirky software features, but it wasn’t something I was ever interested in using on a daily basis. I considered it to be nothing more than a mediocre device in a big race. Don’t get me wrong, it was definitely a step up for LG, but the G2’s late release put it up against some tough competition in 2013.

Fast forward to the LG G3. Even with its recent announcement and small-scale initial launch, the G3 has captured the attention of many. It’s nothing short of a 2014-standard as far as flagship specifications go, but will the LG G3 be the best smartphone this year? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, this is the best smartphone that LG has created thus far….

LG G3 landscape homescreen leak shows off floating widget, tweaked layout

With less than two weeks left to go until the rumored G3 announcement, we won’t have to wait long until we see the device in all of its glory. However, until then, more details continue to leak.

The latest involves the homescreen in landscape orientation. Since the device is expected to have a 5.5″ display, the screen will be closer to that of smaller tablets than that of a small phone. As such, it appears that LG will have certain features reserved for the display when it is in landscape. The above screenshot depicts the incoming call notification acting like a floating widget above the screen.

Samsung’s devices have a similar feature, though it’s unclear how useful this feature may be. Since floating widgets aren’t natively supported in Android, these types of features tend to receive very limited third-party support. Still — we’ll find out the full plan on May 27th!

LG has just published a new teaser video for its upcoming G3 smartphone. The video doesn’t reveal much, but it definitely proves that most of the leaks we’ve seen recently were accurate.

According to this epic new video, the LG G3 looks incredibly thin and appears to have a brushed metal design (also leaked in gold), but we won’t know for sure until LG’s announcement. The video teases the G3’s optical image stabilization, referenced only by a moving camera sensor, and concludes with a tag line that reads, “Simple is the new smart” and the official announcement date of May 27th, 2014. Unfortunately, there’s not much else to see here, but the video does provide a look at the smartphone’s thin profile.

Leaked LG G3 screenshots show off flatter UI, new ‘Concierge’ widget

While we’ve seen information regarding the hardware of LG’s upcoming G3, the software side has been mostly silent. Today, various leaked screenshots show that the device will feature a vastly improved UI, as well as a new “Concierge” service to help make the device more approachable. The screenshots (via Digital Trends) show off the homescreen, as well as the notification shade.

Compared to previous versions of LG’s skin, those shown off here are much more tame and in-line with Google’s overall design motif. The 3D icons have been polished off to be flatter, and LG has also replaced the menu button with Google’s standard multitasking button.

More LG G3 specs appear, 16 MP camera comes along for the ride

More specs of LG’s upcoming G3 have leaked from Sprint’s device database (via PhoneArena). While a quad-HD display, 2.3 GHz SnapDragon, and 4.4.2 version of Android are all still in the cards, the profile has been updated to reflect that the device will have a 16 megapixel camera.

Until this, rumors have pointed towards the G3 having a 13 megapixel camera — LG has either upgraded the glass, or the camera will change depending upon the region the device is sold in. Either way, LG’s devices have had excellent cameras for the past year, and the G3 isn’t likely to break that trend.

While we’ve yet to see an actual shot of the handset, its design is said to be similar to the recently outed LG isai FL.
