Thanks to a tweet sent by OnePlus, we have reason to believe that something special will be unveiled next Monday, June 1st. Nobody is really quite sure what to expect, with someone here at 9to5Google even suggesting that the placement of ‘time’ in the tweet might be a subtle suggestion of a new watch, but it seems more likely that it’s the OnePlus 2.

We recently reported here on the appearance of a mysterious device from OnePlus appearing in GeekBench test results. That device looked to be running Android 5.1 with an 8 core processor clocked at 1.55GHz. The unit had a model number of A2001, while the original OnePlus One has a model number of A0001.

OnePlus long ago confirmed that they were working on the OnePlus 2 and that it was slated for “sometime in 2015,” with a more specific Q3 timeframe pegged by reports at Bloomberg. June is the last month in Q2 so maybe they’ll announce June pre-orders with a July or August launch?

Rumors regarding the successor the popular OnePlus One smartphone began emerging earlier this year and now a mysterious device from the company has appeared in GeekBench test results. While the results don’t reveal much, the show what is likely the OnePlus 2. The device appears to be running Android 5.1 and features an 8 core processor, likely in the 4+4 setup, clocked at 1.55GHz.

You no longer need an invite to buy a OnePlus One (yep, that was the exciting announcement)

OnePlus has been teasing an announcement for a few days now, but like last month’s tease for a new gaming product that turned out to be a very early April Fool’s joke, this one also turned out to be rather an anti-climax.

Starting today, the One will be available without an invite. Forever.

That’s right. In our first big celebration of the One’s successful year, we are opening up sales globally for everyone, every day of the week.

The company said that it felt it had “matured” sufficiently to handle the increased demands of open sales …

OnePlus teases… something… for April 20

OnePlus is definitely known for their hype and their inability to actually deliver, but let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that this isn’t yet another example of that. The company has this afternoon taken to its Google+ page to post the image above, teasing some kind of event or announcement for April 20th. “You’re invited,” the company says, but we don’t really know what we’re invited to.

Cyanogen OS 12 now rolling out to OnePlus One users

After teasing the update last week, OnePlus today has announced that Lollipop-based Cyanogen OS 12 is now rolling out to the OnePlus One. The update has been a long time coming and while users have been waiting, OnePlus also released Oxygen OS, which is also based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

OnePlus said in an AMA on Reddit late last week that its upcoming #OneGameChanger product would be a drone called the DR-1, but thanks to an assortment of winky faces left on the posts, it wasn’t clear if the company was making a joke or not. It seemed plausible, but it’s also an interesting direction from a company that single-handedly disrupted the smartphone market with their super-cheap and high-powered OnePlus One smartphone. Now the company has confirmed officially that the #OneGameChanger that they’ve been teasing is indeed a drone…

I think it’s probably safe to say that this drone isn’t just going to your standard drone, as OnePlus seems to believe that something about their product is going to be a “game changer”. Drones are definitely a hot trend in the ranks of technology geeks, but they’re usually not cheap if you want one that’s high-quality. Maybe OnePlus is planning on doing the same thing with drones that it did with smartphones, bringing the “Never Settle” philosophy to the remote control quad-copters. According to OnePlus, the drone will be hitting stores at some point in April.

OnePlus apologizes for missing deadline on Oxygen OS, says CM12 coming ‘as soon as possible’

OnePlus missed its March 27th goal for bringing its new Oxygen OS to the public today, and the company has now taken to its forum to apologize. It’s not exactly surprising to see this happen as OnePlus definitely hasn’t been known for being the most reliable deliverer of software, but it’s unfortunate nonetheless.

It’s not exactly clear whether or not this is all a big joke, but Carl Pei, the founder of OnePlus, came out on Reddit yesterday in an AMA to say outright that its mysterious upcoming product release is going to be a drone. The company has been teasing this new product for a while, assuring us that it’s not a tablet nor a smartwatch, but recent teases seemed to point more toward some kind of gaming system.

OnePlus’ Carl Pei came out to say earlier this month at the Mobile World Congress that the smartphone maker is about to enter a new product category, but the company has reiterated multiple times that the product will not a tablet nor a smartwatch. It wasn’t until just today that we had any idea what kind of product it would be, and based on the latest teaser images, it looks like OnePlus has plans on entering the gaming market.

“Start a new game,” one of the teasers says. OnePlus has taken to its forum to push the #OneGameChanger hashtag, but we’re otherwise left pretty empty handed in trying to guess what could be up the company’s sleeve. “It’s not a tablet, and it’s not a smartwatch. But it is a game changer,” the post says. The most logical guess in my mind seems to be an Android TV device of some kind, along the lines of the Nexus Player.

Personally, I just hope that I don’t have to stand in line for months before I can get the opportunity to order one. Here are a couple more images:

OnePlus has been rumored to be working on some kind of new product for a while, and guesses tend to bounce back and fourth between it being a smartwatch and a tablet. Today, OnePlus founder Carl Pei has reportedly come out to say (via GSMArena) that the company is indeed planning on soon entering a new product category, but—hilariously enough—it’s not going to be a smartwatch—nor will it be a tablet.

The next device from OnePlus, which most assume will be called the OnePlus 2, is probably right around the corner—after all, the current-generation OnePlus One was announced over nine months ago. But what kind of changes does OnePlus have planned for it?

According to a report this morning from Business Insider, the phone is going to look and feel a lot more “premium” than its predecessor, potentially sporting a metal frame. It’s said that this might come with a price bump, however, so lets hope that’s something you’re willing to settle for.

OnePlus says OxygenOS release ‘next month,’ announces new Paranoid Android talent on board

OnePlus teased its OxygenOS custom Android ROM late last month, and now the company has come out with a few more interesting details about how it’s being made and what the company’s goals are for it. Specifically, OnePlus today revealed that it’s bringing on several people from the Paranoid Android team, including co-founders of the project Aaron Gascoigne and Jesús David Gulfo Agudelo.

Oh, and the ROM is scheduled for release “next month.”

OnePlus told us in December that the One would be getting MaxxAudio—which will supposedly improve sound performance—in a future update, and that update to the phone’s software has finally arrived. But today’s update also packs a plethora of other features that users of the One will greatly appreciate, and as the company told us would be happening, the update includes the addition of SwiftKey as a default keyboard as well.

OnePlus has been dragging out the release of the OnePlus One for months now, and it appears today that the company is dragging it out even more—making yet another small incremental step toward it actually being available to the public. Starting with tomorrow, the company will begin publicly selling both models of the One without an invite every Tuesday.

In the spirit of bloatware—which oddly goes against basically everything the company stands for—OnePlus has decided that SwiftKey is an absolute necessity for every user of its One smartphone. The company has partnered with SwiftKey to bake the keyboard right in, and says users won’t have to download anything (besides the next update to the phone’s OS) to switch over.

OnePlus has collaborated with SwiftKey to integrate their top-selling keyboard app right into CyanogenMod 11S. OnePlus One users can now switch to the SwiftKey keyboard with the touch of a button – no downloading required.

The keyboard is coming as part of this month’s OTA update to CyanogenMod 11S, and after installing the update, users can head over to the Language and Input menu in settings to select SwiftKey.

Sure, this isn’t the update many would be hoping to hear about for the One, but the company also left us a little hint at the bottom of this blog post. “We’ve got something pretty sweet for you very soon,” it says, teasing the company’s plans to update the One to Lollipop.

The company also told us recently about its custom OxygenOS ROM, which the company says will further it’s goal of bringing a “bold, powerful, straightforward experience” to owners of OnePlus devices.

The tensions between CyanogenMod and OnePlus have been well documented over the recent months, with OnePlus even going as far as removing Cyanogen branding from its most recent shipments of phones. This morning, OnePlus teased an upcoming announcement with the tagline “Back to Basics” and now the company has revealed its own custom ROM. In a post on the OnePlus forums, the company has revealed that it is developing its own ROM that it will call Oxygen OS.

OnePlus is today teasing an announcement for tomorrow with the tagline “Back to Basics,” but no one really has any idea what the company plans to tell us about. Interestingly, the teaser image that OnePlus posted across its social media profiles (seen above) definitely makes reference to the Breaking Bad title screen, but it’s not clear yet what it might mean.

Also, updated models of the OnePlus One without Cyanogen branding on their back covers have begun shipping…

Startups like kiddoEMR could change lives using Google tech, but this one desperately needs Google Glass 2.0

Dr. Joseph “Joe” Cohen has been a pediatrician for 15 years, and he saw a need in the medical workplace. Current EMR (electronic medical record) solutions are ridiculously expensive, antiquated, offer little support for pediatrics, and require hours of rigorous training before doctors can use them to efficiently document and organize patient information. Seeing this, Dr. Joe (as his young patients call him) developed a pediatric solution of his own, and deployed an early version in his own practice, Cedar Park Pediatrics, with the added bonus of bringing down the average cost of processing patients from $58 to around $20 per visit.

And while the system is of course platform-agnostic for the most part, Google technologies like Chrome and Glass are a key players in the kiddoEMR product despite downfalls that Dr. Joe says make the current generation of the latter completely impractical for the workplace. The system of course will mostly be interacted with via an in-browser interface on a desktop computer, but Glass provides some robust functionality that would make it a no-brainer for pediatricians. Doctors like Joe, though, need to be able to use their hands, and the old saying that “a picture is worth a thousand words” is especially true when diagnosing patients.

Delhi High Court temporarily lifts OnePlus One ban

Micromax (which recently launched the Yurkea smartphone under the brand name “YU Digital”), had an exclusivity agreement for using the Cyanogen OS in India, and took OnePlus to court earlier this month—banning them from selling their phone under order of the Delhi High Court. Now, it appears that very same court has had a change of heart, at least for now, and the ban on the OnePlus has been temporarily lifted (via India Times).

In a reprieve to the company, judges on Wednesday said the case “shall be heard and decided afresh”. The case will come up for hearing on January 7 under a single judge. “We dispose off the appeal, setting aside the impugned order dated December 16, 2014,” Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and RK Gauba said in their order on OnePlus’s petition, a copy of which was seen by ET.

OnePlus, following a slew of rumors this morning that the company might have something up its sleeve for tomorrow, has now posted an image with the tagline “Go Further” on its Google+ page, likely teasing some kind of announcement. There’s not much we can glean from the teaser image, but the post Google+ says that they’ve “got 10,000” reasons to be excited for tomorrow.
