LlabTooFeR contradicts oft-reliable Evleaks, says HTC One M10 will be 5.2-inch

htc-perfume-leaked

A couple weeks ago, Evan Blass came out to unveil pretty much all of the upcoming HTC One M10’s specs, saying that — among other details — the phone is going to ship with a 5.1-inch display. Now, famed Android leaker LlabTooFeR has come out on Twitter to challenge Evan’s great track record. Apparently, the M10 is going to ship with a display not 5.1-inches in size, but 5.2-inches.

OnePlus 2 will be smaller than OnePlus One, have larger 3,300 mAh battery

OnePlus One with a OnePlus 2 underneath

OnePlus held an AMA on Reddit this morning, and actually used the opportunity to give us some more details about the upcoming handset. According to various OnePlus team members (who did indeed verify themselves), the phone will have a slightly larger 3,300 mAh battery (up from 3,100 mAh of the OnePlus One), while the physical size of the phone will actually be moderately smaller than that of its predecessor…

OnePlus defends its marketing strategy, says it just wants to build community with fans

Site default logo image

header_JUN28_Blog

Following the announcement that the OnePlus 2 would have a USB Type-C port, Mobile Syrup wrote an open letter on Monday to OnePlus calling for sanity. Most who have watched OnePlus evolve as a company agreed wholeheartedly with this letter. From teasing a “game changer” that ended up being a miniature drone barely made available, to teasing the end of the OnePlus One invite system several months after the phone finally hit the market, the company has been known to be really loud (and many times obnoxious) about nothing. But OnePlus says that there’s a reason for all of this…

OnePlus releases OxygenOS 1.01 for One owners with touch screen issues

oneplus-one-black

Many OnePlus One owners have been settling lately, and it looks like OnePlus — after many attempts — is still trying to finally put the phone’s touch screen issues to rest. A new build of Cyanogen OS was pushed just a couple of days ago to fix issues for those on that OS, but now OnePlus is pushing out an update to its OxygenOS as well, bumping it to version 1.01.

The announcement post, sadly, doesn’t have a full change log. It only mentions this one touch screen fix that many OnePlus One owners have been waiting for. You can head over to the OnePlus forums to grab the firmware. The company did, however, mention a new tool that lets those on Cyanogen OS easily flash a build of OxygenOS without losing your data:

In addition, our friends over at Fastboot Mobile and XDA actually worked on a migration tool that will allow those of you who haven’t tried OxygenOS yet to easily flash from CM 11 or 12 without losing your data. The tool is in beta but we thought it was pretty cool so why not share it and let you play with it.

Proceed with caution and follow the instructions carefully. It’s beta so it’s not guaranteed to work 100%.

Prerequisite:

Tool download:
http://eu-oxygen.cust.fastbootmobile.com/OnePlusOneMigration-logging-Beta1.zip

Steps:

  1. Unzip the above into its own folder
  2. Copy the flashable OxygenOS zip and MD5 into the “download” folder contained in the above
  3. On the device go to Settings > Developer options and uncheck Update CM Recovery (CM has this checked as default which causes issues)
  4. Make sure the device is plugged into the computer
  5. Run the “OnePlusOneMigration.exe” file as Administrator
  6. Accept any prompts to confirm the drivers – they are ours and are signed
  7. Follow the prompts (as prompted) and you should end up with OxygenOS installed. The ADB sideload process can take awhile to finish.

If you found moving to OxygenOS daunting before, this might be your opportunity to try out OnePlus’ almost-stock OS.

Some of the most nagging OnePlus One bugs supposedly fixed in Cyanogen OS update

oneplus-one-black

The OnePlus One, despite its well-deserved praise and renown, has some shortcoming. Besides the fact that OnePlus has some of the most ridiculous — although effective — marketing of any tech company today, the flagship phone itself has been plagued with some pretty nagging problems . Most notably, OnePlus has some pretty sketchy Bluetooth connectivity with in-car systems, problems sending MMS on some carriers, and — most notoriously — problems with touch screen sensitivity. Now, though, it looks like these problems are finally fixed…

OnePlus apologizes for missing deadline on Oxygen OS, says CM12 coming ‘as soon as possible’

181707-oneplusonefull

OnePlus missed its March 27th goal for bringing its new Oxygen OS to the public today, and the company has now taken to its forum to apologize. It’s not exactly surprising to see this happen as OnePlus definitely hasn’t been known for being the most reliable deliverer of software, but it’s unfortunate nonetheless.

HTC at MWC 2015: New Product Launch - YouTube 2015-03-02 12-21-57

HTC announced its new One M9 flagship yesterday, but the company also took time to tell us about the GRIP fitness device they’re working on with Under Armour and the new Vive virtual reality headset being made in partnership with Valve. Sunday in the United States feels like an odd time for all of these announcements to have happened (meaning they caught many of us off guard), but if you’re one of those that missed the keynote, you’re in luck. HTC has this morning uploaded the full press event video to YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

OnePlus releases CyanogenMod 11S 05Q update w/ SwiftKey and MaxxAudio included

181707-oneplusonefull

OnePlus told us in December that the One would be getting MaxxAudio—which will supposedly improve sound performance—in a future update, and that update to the phone’s software has finally arrived. But today’s update also packs a plethora of other features that users of the One will greatly appreciate, and as the company told us would be happening, the update includes the addition of SwiftKey as a default keyboard as well.

OnePlus will begin selling the One w/ no invite required every Tuesday

Open-Sales_Forum

OnePlus has been dragging out the release of the OnePlus One for months now, and it appears today that the company is dragging it out even more—making yet another small incremental step toward it actually being available to the public. Starting with tomorrow, the company will begin publicly selling both models of the One without an invite every Tuesday.

Android One initiative expanding to Indonesia w/ three affordable smartphones

Android One Indonesia

Android One, Google’s program focused on bringing high quality smartphones to developing markets at affordable price points, is expanding to Indonesia later this month, the company announced today. Indonesia will become the fifth country in which Google has rolled out the Android One program since the initiative was first introduced at Google I/O last year.

OnePlus and Cyanogen put SwiftKey on the One by default

swiftkey_Blog

In the spirit of bloatware—which oddly goes against basically everything the company stands for—OnePlus has decided that SwiftKey is an absolute necessity for every user of its One smartphone. The company has partnered with SwiftKey to bake the keyboard right in, and says users won’t have to download anything (besides the next update to the phone’s OS) to switch over.

OnePlus has collaborated with SwiftKey to integrate their top-selling keyboard app right into CyanogenMod 11S. OnePlus One users can now switch to the SwiftKey keyboard with the touch of a button – no downloading required.

The keyboard is coming as part of this month’s OTA update to CyanogenMod 11S, and after installing the update, users can head over to the Language and Input menu in settings to select SwiftKey.

Sure, this isn’t the update many would be hoping to hear about for the One, but the company also left us a little hint at the bottom of this blog post. “We’ve got something pretty sweet for you very soon,” it says, teasing the company’s plans to update the One to Lollipop.

The company also told us recently about its custom OxygenOS ROM, which the company says will further it’s goal of bringing a “bold, powerful, straightforward experience” to owners of OnePlus devices.

OnePlus teases ‘Back to Basics’ announcement following removal of Cyanogen branding from the One

541b5b3b-a52c-41e9-802b-1d493e4db49d

OnePlus is today teasing an announcement for tomorrow with the tagline “Back to Basics,” but no one really has any idea what the company plans to tell us about. Interestingly, the teaser image that OnePlus posted across its social media profiles (seen above) definitely makes reference to the Breaking Bad title screen, but it’s not clear yet what it might mean.

Also, updated models of the OnePlus One without Cyanogen branding on their back covers have begun shipping…

Delhi High Court temporarily lifts OnePlus One ban

181707-oneplusonefull

Micromax (which recently launched the Yurkea smartphone under the brand name “YU Digital”), had an exclusivity agreement for using the Cyanogen OS in India, and took OnePlus to court earlier this monthbanning them from selling their phone under order of the Delhi High Court. Now, it appears that very same court has had a change of heart, at least for now, and the ban on the OnePlus has been temporarily lifted (via India Times).

In a reprieve to the company, judges on Wednesday said the case “shall be heard and decided afresh”. The case will come up for hearing on January 7 under a single judge. “We dispose off the appeal, setting aside the impugned order dated December 16, 2014,” Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and RK Gauba said in their order on OnePlus’s petition, a copy of which was seen by ET.

OnePlus teases “Go Further” announcement for December 17

OnePlus, following a slew of rumors this morning that the company might have something up its sleeve for tomorrow, has now posted an image with the tagline “Go Further” on its Google+ page, likely teasing some kind of announcement. There’s not much we can glean from the teaser image, but the post Google+ says that they’ve “got 10,000” reasons to be excited for tomorrow.

HTC says One (M8) and One (M7) to receive Lollipop within 90 days of Google’s release

htcone

According to tweets recently posted by HTC, the company’s One (M8) and One (M7) will be getting the recently announced Lollipop update sometime within 90 days of receiving it from Google. These devices are added to the long list of Android hardware that will be receiving the update, along with many of Motorola’s lineup, and notably, most relatively recent Nexus devices (including even the 2012 Nexus 7).

Rumored OnePlus OneWatch website and sketches leaked

oneplus-onewatch-bgr-india-2

BGR.in today received some interesting information about the rumored smartwatch by OnePlus. In case you haven’t heard of them, OnePlus is a company that sells the OnePlus One smartphone (our review here), which boasts a 5.5″ 1080P display, 2.5GHz SnapDragon 801, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, and other top-tier features for the low-range price of $349 off contract. Their “invite only” system spawned a polarizing response from their most dedicated fans, as OnePlus required anyone who wanted the phone to be “invited” to purchase it.

OnePlus teases StyleSwap wood back covers, more info coming July 22

OnePlus-One-lean

Custom back covers for the OnePlus One aren’t a new concept. The “Design” page on the OnePlus website has touted a selection of “StyleSwap” exchangeable back covers as “Coming Soon” for quite some time. However, a new tweet via the official OnePlus Twitter account teases these new accessories a bit, giving a date of July 22nd for the reveal of additional information about the covers.

We’ve done a hands-on of the device, giving you a look at the coveted flagship smartphone that seemingly nobody can really get for themselves. In response to the above tweet, many people are getting increasingly frustrated because a bit more information about the StyleSwap accessories does no good if hardly anyone actually has the device. Hopefully the phone will move beyond its invite-only availability soon.
