One of the devices that shocked me last year was the Huawei Mate 9, and that’s because it turned out to be one of my favorite devices of 2017. Now, about a year later, Huawei is further improving that device with an update to Android Oreo.
Android Oreo has been available for over a month now, but it hasn’t really landed on anything outside of the Google Pixel and Nexus devices. Slowly but surely, other OEMs are bringing Oreo to their new and old devices, and recently, Huawei has opened a public beta for Oreo on last year’s Mate 9.
One of the phones I’m eagerly looking forward to this year is the Huawei Mate 10, and it’s supposedly going to be debuting with Android Oreo. Software was Huawei’s biggest weak point in the past, but it made great strides forward with EMUI 5. Now, we’re about to see EMUI 6, and our first look reveals that it hasn’t really changed all that much…
With each year that passes, Huawei seems to make a bigger push into the US market. So far in 2017, the company has released the Huawei Mate 9 and Honor 6X in the United States — two phones that have proven to be worth your time and attention. B
oth the Mate 9 and Honor 6X were competitively priced for their respective markets, but even so, both devices are now getting permanent price cuts. Expand Expanding Close
The Huawei Mate 9 was one of the best smartphone values of 2016, and after its US release in January, we believed it to be the best alternative at the time to the Google Pixel. Here are five cases that we’ve taken a look at over the last few months, ranging from straight protection from bumps and scratches all the way to a case that’s waterproof…
The Huawei Mate 9 is one of my favorite underrated smartphones available today. It packs good software and performance, but it kills in the hardware department, with a hefty, sturdy, and beautiful metallic build. Now, Huawei is making the phone available in two new colors.
We announced 9to5Rewards over at 9to5Mac back in August of last year, and now — after a brief time in what we’d like to call a “beta” — it’s ramping up full time and coming over to 9to5Google! For our first giveaway, we’re giving away the Huawei Mate 9. It’s Huawei’s first flagship Android phone to officially come to the United States, and it could be yours — all you have to do is be an active reader!
I love the Google Pixel. Since the day I bought it I’ve been a fan of almost everything about it and even recommended it to some close friends. Despite how good the Pixel is, though, it’s important to remember that it’s not the only great Android smartphone on the market.
There are several others that are fantastic, and I’m lucky enough to have gotten my hands on most of them. After spending time with almost every major flagship smartphone released in the past several months, I can easily say that my favorite option that’s not the Pixel, is the Huawei Mate 9…
Two months after its initial debut, Huawei has just announced that its current flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 9, is coming to the United States on January 6th…
One basic feature that all Huawei Mate 9 users should know is how to take a screenshot. Just like almost any other Android device currently available on the market, the Mate 9 allows you to take a screenshot using the hardware power and volume keys. With EMUI 5.0, Huawei’s latest device allows you to take scrolling screenshots and features the ability to take partial screenshots with the use of your knuckle…
In the past, one of the biggest complaints about EMUI — Huawei’s skinned version of Android — is the fact that it didn’t have an application drawer and would litter homescreens with app shortcuts. The only way to gain an app drawer was by installing a third-party launcher. Thankfully, with the release of EMUI 5.0 on Huawei’s Mate 9, there is a setting that can enable a native app drawer without requiring you to download anything…
Huawei, the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer, has been slowly but swiftly making their way into the US market. Roughly a month ago, the company announced their latest flagship device, the Mate 9, and with it, a plan for a worldwide rollout that would eventually include the US. Although we received a report last week stating that the handset’s launch would be “rocky” due to carrier challenges, we are now getting word from the famed leaker, Evan Blass, that the Mate 9 will be available for purchase stateside on January 6…
Huawei has been growing like a wildfire over the past couple of years, and with no signs of slowing down. Recently the company launched its new flagship, the Huawei Mate 9, to good reception. Unlike previous launches, however, Huawei confirmed plans to launch the device in the United States, but that might be a bit more difficult than Huawei hoped…
Huawei is an ambitious company. Over the next two years, the Chinese behemoth plans to overtake Apple to become the second biggest smartphone maker on the planet. It sounds impossible, but considering the company took the number three spot in just four years, I would give them a chance at reaching that goal. Why?
Huawei releases a ton of phones each year and for the most part, they’re all pretty solid. We’ve reviewed several Huawei-made devices over the years including the Nexus 6P, Honor 5X, Huawei P9, and most recently, the Honor 8. All four of these devices are fantastic in their own respects, but there’s a common flaw on all of them ─ the software, but we’ll get into that.
Now it’s 2016, Huawei isn’t slowing down in the slightest, and we’ve got the Huawei Mate 9. Long story short, this phone is great, but let’s take a closer look…
Earlier this month Huawei made its latest smartphone, the Huawei Mate 9, official. Prior to that announcement we saw multiple leaks pointing to two different models, the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro. During the announcement we did get two models, but they weren’t quite what we expected. Now Huawei has made the Mate 9 Pro official, at least in China.
Huawei’s phones have been well-regarded for their cameras for the last couple of years — especially since the Huawei P9 became one of the first smartphones to introduce dual-camera setups to the world in partnership with Leica. Huawei brought the same concept to its Honor 8 earlier this year (which launched in the US), and it’s continuing the trend with the Mate 9.
So it’s not surprising that the Mate 9 would be able to put out some fantastic photos. But if you wanted proof before going all-in on the device, here’s a gallery of shots to help you make up your mind…
Huawei’s latest flagship Android smartphone is here, the Mate 9. With that new hardware, Huawei has also updated its software skin, EMUI. We’ve seen this skin of the company’s other devices such as the Mate 8, Honor 5X, and Honor 8, but with the Mate 9, we get our first look at Huawei’s take on Android Nougat…
Huawei’s Mate 9 went official this morning and in the midst of covering it, the doorbell rang with our review unit. So let’s take a look at the Mate 9 and what comes in the box with it.
This morning Huawei officially unveiled its latest flagship Android smartphone, the Mate 9. The Chinese company’s new Mate 9 one-ups the former Mate 8 with stronger specifications, a new camera system, and of course EMUI 5.0 — the long awaited overhaul of Huawei’s software…
As October is coming to a close, we are quickly approaching Huawei’s November 3rd event. While we don’t have any confirmation yet about what will be announced there, we can speculate that the event will revolve around the launch of the upcoming Mate 9. Although almost everything about this handset has already slipped through the cracks, a leaked official-looking press render is now giving us a better look at the device…
A number of OEMs, including big names like Samsung and LG, are taking a two-flagship-a-year approach, which means that two different high-end devices (with relative variants) cover both halves of the year, while generally offering unique characteristics to justify the close time windows. Huawei, as it seems, is no exception…
Huawei over the last day or two has begun sending out press invites to an event scheduled for November 3rd in Munich, Germany. While we don’t know for sure what the Chinese company has planned for that date, we would place all our bets on the Huawei Mate 9 — which might actually come to the US…
