The Google TV Streamer is also bringing some new additions to Google TV, most notably including the new Google Home panel. While the device, and this new feature, won’t be available for a few more weeks, we’ve had a chance to check it out in action.

The Pixel 9 series brings a faster charging speed than any other previous versions, so Google opted to launch a new 45W fast charger that pairs along nicely. However, it is not included with the phones.

During the Made by Google event that launched the Pixel Watch 3, the Pixel Watch 2 dropped in price to $249 from its original $349 tag.

At the Made by Google event, Google announced the Pixel Buds Pro 2 earbuds. Instead of a mere 17 regions like last year, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 will be available in a staggering 32 countries.

The foldable market is full of different approaches to the same core ideas, and that’s very evident just from a quick look at the competition the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be facing. Here’s a quick comparison of Google’s new Pixel 9 Pro Fold to the OnePlus Open and Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The Pixel 9 series will get a “Satellite SOS” feature that lets you reach emergency services when you’re out of cellular connectivity, while Call Notes adds recording and transcription to the Phone by Google app. 

Google says a big focus of Pixel design is now on ensuring the devices work well with cases, but looking back at last year, the official cases were the problem. For the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Google has fixed the biggest problem of its official cases.

Earlier this year, the first Wear OS devices that touted up to 100 hours of battery launched. This was made possible by the Wear OS hybrid interface built on top of dual-chipsets. Google’s wearables have long used a hybrid architecture and the Pixel Watch 3 uses that for richer experiences and more features, like Loss of Pulse Detection, over battery life. 

In a first, Google’s new phones are not launching with the latest version of Android. Instead of launching with Android 15, the Pixel 9 series runs Android 14 out of the box.

The big AI feature for the Pixel 9 is a conversational experience called Gemini Live that allows for “free-flowing conversations” and requires an Advanced subscription. Google pitches it as being able to talk to an expert on any subject matter.

Traditional smartphones are getting a little boring. After nearly a couple of decades of producing these devices, it almost feels like we’re running out of ideas to make everything feel different because the entire industry has reached a point of maturity. But, with the Pixel 9 series, Google is showing how to do that in all of the right ways.

When Google unveiled the first Pixel Fold last year, I was shocked that it was actually a halfway decent product, but it still had some fundamental flaws too. Now, Google is following up on that device with the drastically-different Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which learns from virtually every mistake Google made the first time around.

As someone with smaller wrists, I’m glad that the Pixel Watch started out at 41 mm. Going into the Pixel Watch 3, I fully expected to be happy with the smaller model’s tiny screen increase due to shrunken bezels, but the 45 mm version is giving me the best kind of doubts.

The Pixel 9 is Google’s new baseline flagship device, but it packs a serious punch backed by Google’s AI suite at a reasonable $799 price tag.

Alongside the Pixel 9 series and Watch 3, Google today announced the Pixel Buds Pro 2. They come two years after the original with a new design that should address some existing complaints.

A little over a year after launching its first foldable, Google is back with a sequel in the drastically-improved Pixel 9 Pro Fold which will be available next month.

Besides being offered in a bigger size, the Google Pixel Watch 3 looks exactly like last year’s wearable, with software and under-the-hood changes being the name of the game in 2024.
