Google has officially soft-revealed the Pixel 9 Pro, and it confirms one of the major early leaks—glossy side rails once again.

In teasing the Pixel 6 at the start of August, Google very much framed the preview around its first custom-built System on a Chip (SoC). At the Pixel Fall Event today, Google fully detailed Tensor and called it the “biggest mobile hardware innovation in the history of the company.”

Android 12 is rolling out now to current Pixel phones, and Google took the Pixel 6 launch as an opportunity to preview more Material You widgets from major first-party apps.

With the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google is following up last year’s “Hold for Me” with new “Direct My Call” and “Wait Times” capabilities in the Phone dialer app.

Since launching in 2019, the new Google Assistant (NGA) has let users issue commands much faster in a back-to-back, as well as offline, manner. The Pixel 6 brings that capability to Gboard for an “Assistant voice typing” experience that is an appreciable upgrade.

The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro bring a lot of new features in their redesigned hardware, but one thing that’s also getting a massive upgrade is the charging situation. Google is offering up to 30W charging support on the Pixel 6 and debuting a new, much faster Pixel Stand too.

Google is launching a new bundle option with its Pixel phones starting with the Pixel 6. Pixel Pass promises a new phone every 2 years along with Google services starting at a price of $45 per month.

Google’s bread and butter with the Pixel series for 5 generations has been the camera, but with the rest of the industry catching up, it was clear Google was due for an overhaul. Now, that has finally arrived in the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which offer a new 50MP camera sensor and plenty of features to push it to its limit.

After months of official teasers and leaks, the most important Pixel phones to date have finally arrived. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the first smartphones with Android 12, the Google Tensor chipset, and Google’s brand new camera system. But they don’t really feel like Google phones anymore, at least not at a first impression.
