Qualcomm says next-gen Bluetooth chip will see smaller, more reliable & smarter wireless headphones

Qualcomm has said that its latest Bluetooth chip will allow future wireless in-ear headphones to become smaller, more reliable and smarter.

Reduced power consumption could allow headphones to give almost three times the battery-life of existing models – or, as seems more likely, allow manufacturers to maintain current playback times while shrinking the size of devices …

Review: Libratone Q Adapt USB-C ‘Made for Google’ earbuds are expensive but excellent with the Pixel 2

Google’s new phones drop the headphone jack — that’s just a fact we’re forced to live with if we want the latest and greatest. While Bluetooth is a great option in many ways, having effortless headphones you never have to charge, pair, or use with a dongle is something many will miss. Thankfully, there are solutions, like the Libratone Q Adapt USB-C earbuds.

Review: Libratone Q Adapt wireless headphones are a great auto-pairing option for Pixel owners

Wireless headphones are available everywhere, and a lot of them are pretty great. However, Google has introduced a new auto pair feature with its latest Pixel phones that sets some wireless headphones apart from the crowd, and one of the first to support it is the Q Adapt On-Ear from Libratone.

Lenovo’s Moto Z doesn’t have a headphone jack, but includes a 3.5mm-to-USB C adapter

The new Moto Z is officially the world’s thinnest smartphone at just 5.2mm, but to achieve that they’ve had to make some sacrifices. The battery is quite a bit smaller than most phones at just 2,600 mAh, and another issue with the razor thin design is that you won’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

V-MODA Crossfade Wireless headphones – Unboxing and Review [Video]

V-MODA makes some of the best earphones available. While sports stars and celebrities are normally seen wearing Beats, you’re more likely to find a pair of V-MODA cans wrapped around the necks of DJs. And if I’m going to trust someone’s judgement on an audio product, I’ll choose a music professional over a sports-person any day.

In the past, I’ve owned the Crossfade M100 and now, the award-winning earphones are back with an added feature: Wireless connectivity. I’ve been using the Crossfade Wireless for the past week or so, and they’re rather fantastic…

The $59.99 Moto pulse are stylish-looking on-ear headphones with beefy 40mm drivers, fold-flat ear cups for portability and a claimed 18-hour battery life. The $69.99 Moto surround earbuds are aimed at sports and fitness use, being both waterproof and sweatproof and equipped with a collar band designed to be light yet remain in place during exercise.

A companion Android app provides easy pairing, battery notifications and a location function to reunite you with either pair of headphones if you lose them.

Review: A-Audio’s Icon headphones pack Bluetooth and active noise cancellation in a premium package (Video)

These days, it seems like there is an endless variety of headphones to choose from. With new models popping up on a weekly basis, it’s hard to sort through the crowd to find the ones that fit you best. When it comes to active noise cancellation this elite selection thins out a bit, but there are only a handful that fall into the same category as A-Audio’s Icon over-ear headphones.

From a functionality perspective, these headphones give you everything but the kitchen sink. They can be used wirelessly via Bluetooth with active noise cancellation, in passive (wired) mode, and even feature dual sound profiles. Along with that, they include a wide variety of accessories that offer more than enough for any situation…

Samsung announces ‘Level’ brand of premium headphones and speakers

Samsung announced on Wednesday that its premium lineup of Level headphones and speakers will soon be available in the United States. The collection consists of three premium headphones and one Bluetooth speaker system, ranging between $149.99 and $349.99 in price.

The headphones and speakers can be synced with Samsung’s streaming music service Milk Music on select Galaxy devices, while the Level Over headphones in particular can be paired with Samsung’s new Level app for an enhanced audio experience.

I cannot help but assume that this move was at least slightly inspired by Apple’s acquisition of Beats Electronics a few months ago.

Samsung Level products will be available exclusively on designer brand website Gilt beginning tomorrow.

Dallas –Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung Mobile) today announced the U.S. availability of the Samsung Level™ portfolio of premium mobile audio products. The Level audio portfolio is a collection of three premium headphones and a Bluetooth speaker — all designed for portability and style while producing high quality sound.

The portfolio includes: Level Over, Level On, Level In and Level Box. All four devices work seamlessly with smartphones and tablets, and the Level Over can be further customized using the Samsung Level App to elevate the audio experience. In addition, the Level portfolio easily syncs with Milk Music™ powered by Slacker, Samsung’s free music streaming service for select Galaxy devices*, offering an easy-to-use interface and more than 200 stations to further amplify your music listening experience.

Level Over is available for $349.99, Level On $179.99, Level In $149.99 and Level Box $169.99. Gilt.com, the innovative online shopping destination, is offering its members exclusive, first access to the portfolio, starting Thursday, July 17 at noon ET at www.gilt.com/level. The sale, which lasts for 72 hours, will also feature an exclusive bundle of the Level On and Level Box for $299.99.  The portfolio will also be available on Amazon.com (July 20), Samsung.com (July 21) and select Samsung Experience Shops at Best Buy stores (July 27).

Level Over

The Samsung Level Over is an over-ear headphone designed for an immersive sound experience. Level Over delivers powerful, clear, sharp sound, ergonomically designed comfort and wireless Bluetooth technology.

Level Over includes Active Noise Cancellation, employing four mics on the inside and outside of the headphones to cancel outside sounds. In addition, Level Over includes technology that prevents resonance between the vibration plate and the frame, avoiding unnecessary booming and helping to provide the original sound. Users can control volume, navigate tracks, pause or stop music, answer or end a call all using the Smart Control Technology on the side of the headphones.

Level On

The Level On is an on-ear, wired headphone that packs a powerful, clear and pure sound in a compact design. Soft polyurethane cushioning provides comfort with a foldable ergonomic design makes this the perfect headphone for the on-the-go mobile user.

Level In

The Level In is an in-ear, wired headphone that packs a powerful three-way speaker system that controls treble, mid-range and deep bass, providing clear sound separation and rich, natural sound quality.

Level Box

Level Box is a premium, compact Bluetooth speaker that streams high quality audio from any Samsung Galaxy phone – or any other Bluetooth compatible device – directly to the speaker for crystal-clear sound. The sleek, distinctive design is optimized to provide noise reduction and echo cancellation, and a built in rechargeable battery offers up to 15 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. One touch Near-Field Communications (NFC) or the dedicated Bluetooth pairing button provides effortless synching. Control buttons make it easy to adjust volume or play/pause music, and a high-quality HD built in microphone makes it a great device for phone or conference calls.

For more information, please visit www.samsungmobileuspress.com.

*Milk Music is compatible with Galaxy S 5, Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S 4 mini across all carriers as well as the Galaxy Tab S.

Audio specialist Blue promises true hi-fi quality wireless audio by the spring

http://vimeo.com/83331745

I take the view that wires are evil: anything that can be wireless should be wireless. My iOS devices sync via wifi, my keyboard and trackpad are Bluetooth, I have Wemo-controlled lighting, Tado-controlled heating and love cloud services.

But there’s one thing in my living-room that still relies on a wire: the connection between Mac and hifi system. I tried a Bluetooth link, and the quality just wasn’t there. I quickly reverted to the 3.5mm cable that runs around the skirting board.

Enter microphone specialist Blue. The company is teasing a true hifi-quality wireless connection between digital devices and headphones (and presumably hifi systems) under the name Mo-Fi.

Where digital music technology has advanced, headphones have lagged behind. We’ve seen dramatic advances in the quality and convenience of digital music, yet headphones –designed specifically to bring us closer to sound— have failed to bridge the gap from hi-fi to mobile. Headphones are the last barrier between us and the audio trapped in our digital devices. What if we liberated our music from overhyped lo-fi to true mobile hi-fi? We can. Blue is offering the first sneak peek at CES 2014.

We’ll bring you more details when we have them.
