Google Drive storage is very useful and, in the days of G Suite, business owners had the ability to get unlimited Google Drive storage. Unfortunately, though, unlimited Google Drive storage going away with Workspace.

As part of Google Workspace, the company is rolling out new branding for its productivity apps. Gmail — as teased last month — will be getting a new icon, with Calendar, Drive, Docs, and Meet also following over the coming weeks.

Online file storage solutions started out as being modeled after their local, non-cloud counterparts. Next month, Google Drive will automatically delete files and folders placed in the trash after 30 days.

Following the extended Labor Day weekend, classes are returning online across the US this morning, and students are seeing something we all featured. A partial Google Drive outage appears to be affecting education accounts.

Back in March, Google Drive introduced “shortcuts” to simplify folder structure, sharing, and reduce the need for creating copies. Google today announced a trio of updates, while Drive is adding support for target audience sharing.

Usually quite reliable, Google is reporting that Gmail and other G Suite applications are seeing a “service disruption.” Gmail, followed by Google Drive, being down is the biggest problem right now. Issues started late on Wednesday evening (PT) and continue into the early hours of Thursday.

Last week, Google announced that its messaging services will soon be fully integrated into Gmail. As part of “Productivity & Collaboration” week at Cloud Next ’20: OnAir, Google Meet, Chat, and Drive are also getting a slate of security enhancements to better moderate access.

In addition to last month’s announcement that Meet is now “free for everyone,” Google also quietly announced a new G Suite Essentials tier. More details about that offering, which bundles Google Meet and Drive, are now available.
