LG was once one of the biggest players in the Android space, but things clearly haven’t been going as well for a while now. This week, LG detailed how it built its ASMR mode for its LG G8X ThinQ. Why does this exist? Because LG said it could do it.
Earlier this month, the flagship LG G8 ThinQ began to receive its Android 10 update, but only in South Korea. So far in the US, LG’s devices have stayed on Android Pie, sometimes to the point of being humorous. The LG G7 One, based on Android One, is receiving an update to Android 10, which is actually rolling out through carriers in North America.
Some Android tablets are good, but others are a complete joke. LG isn’t helping the latter with its new G Pad 5 10.1, an Android tablet running on a three-year-old chipset, which has some hilariously bad marketing images, too.
LG has been experimenting with some quirky ideas for smartphones lately, and today its latest device is getting a release date in the United States. Starting November 1st you’ll be able to get the LG G8X ThinQ for $699.
LG’s track record with major Android updates isn’t exactly great, but the company is getting started on its Android 10 update. This week, it announced a beta program for Android 10 on the LG G8 ThinQ.
Google released Android 10 on its Pixel devices earlier this month, but it will be some time before many other OEMs catch up, because they each want to bring their own look and feel to Android. LG really doesn’t make life easy for themselves. They make some solid hardware, but stall massively in updating their devices. The LG V30, V35, and V40 were supposed to get Android Pie by June, but that initial deadline has come and gone. We have some good news, though, as an early Android Pie beta has leaked for the LG V30.
The long-awaited, long-rumored LG Pay has now touched down in the US, but in typical LG fashion, is only initially available on one device — the LG G8 ThinQ.
Despite being part of the Android One program in some regions, the LG G7 ThinQ hasn’t had quite as much love as it should have in the software stakes. The device is still stuck on Android Oreo but that is about to change as the long-overdue Android Pie update for the LG G7 ThinQ is now rolling out (via Reddit).

LG’s latest release, the LG Stylo 5 is now available in the US with certain colors available as carrier exlusives.
The LG W10, W30 and W30 Pro have been officially unveiled as an Indian exclusive. All three handsets are most definitely catered toward to mid-to-low end of the market and clearly designed to help boost LG’s fortunes in one of the world’s growing smartphone markets. Oh, and they come with an actual customizable notch.
As Verizon pushes forward with 5G, it’s also launching more devices to support the faster network. Later this week, the LG V50 ThinQ 5G lands on Verizon Wireless as its second smartphone with 5G built-in.

LG is a company whose products I once adored. Over the years, though, the company has fallen behind in some major ways, and it’s paying for that dearly. Unfortunately, its new LG G8 ThinQ doesn’t do much to buck that trend. Instead, it’s a phone with some genuinely great ideas, ruined by a bunch of bad ones.

The LG V50 ThinQ made its somewhat unexpected debut back at MWC 2019 with a fairly imminent debut scheduled for soon after. However, LG has just announced that, in its home country of Korea, the LG V50 is being delayed until further notice.

Nearly a year ago to the day, LG announced that it was opening an “industry-first” Software Upgrade Center in an effort to provide better support for its devices over time. With time passed, we can look back at that project and see what a laughable failure it has been, especially looking at Android Pie.
