Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Probably against my better judgment, I pulled the trigger a few weeks ago on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. The $2,000 foldable is the first one I’ve ever used for more than a few minutes, and just a day in, it’s a device I’m already in love with. Here are a few first impressions on the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Foldable smartphones have only been on the scene for a couple of years at this point, but they’re rapidly getting better. After teasing it at Unpacked last month, Samsung has now fully detailed the Galaxy Z Fold 2, complete with its new price of a whopping $1,999.

Back in April, a report claimed that Samsung had plans to lower the price of its next major foldable, lessening the sticker shock that came with the $1,980 Galaxy Fold. Now, a new report is pinpointing the Galaxy Z Fold 2’s price, and yep, it’s a bit lower.

Alongside the debut of Galaxy Note 20, Watch 3, and other new devices at Unpacked, Samsung also teased its next foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 2. This morning, the company has confirmed it will hold an “Unpacked Part 2” event on September 1st to fully reveal the device.

Samsung last February announced the first Android Foldable, but the launch was notoriously pushed back to September to allow for retrofits and additional hardware protections. The company is now back with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G at an Unpacked event that’s highlighted by the Note 20.

Ahead of its launch next week, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Fold sequel has remained mostly in the dark so far. Tonight, a fresh image of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 has hit the web, showing off the internal display and confirming the new name.

Samsung is preparing to launch a slew of new products on August 5th and, now, the company has put out a teaser which essentially confirms which devices are arriving at the event. In a “trailer” posted to YouTube, Samsung teases Unpacked with the Galaxy Note 20, Fold 2, Tab S7, Watch 3, and Buds Live.

Samsung’s next foldable smartphone, presumably called the “Galaxy Fold 2” is set to make some big improvements over the emotional roller coaster that was the Galaxy Fold. Today, a couple of reports out of South Korea detail what we can expect from the Galaxy Fold 2, including some display specs and an unfortunate detail about the expected S Pen.

The impact of COVID-19 has essentially shuttered every major tech event and launch for 2020, and at this point we’re really not expecting anything to change in the near future. Now, a report from The Korea Herald seems to confirm that Samsung will be skipping a physical event for its Galaxy Note 20 launch and instead hosting it online.

Foldable phones are really expensive, and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold made that clear with a whopping $1,980 price tag. For its second generation, though, it appears Samsung is planning to lower the price of the Galaxy Fold 2, and there may also be plans to introduce a new Galaxy Z Flip variant with 5G.
