Back in October, Google Pixel became the “Official Fan Phone” of the NBA as part of a multi-year partnership. Ahead of the NBA Playoffs, Google this morning announced the “Pixel Arena” as an elaborate virtual game.

The Pixel 6 has seen more advertising than any past Google device, and the marketing campaign is continuing with Giannis Antetokounmpo becoming the “new face” of the NBA’s “Official Fan Phone.”

Over the years, Google has aggressively sponsored the NBA, and that’s increasing for the league’s “75th anniversary season” kicking off tomorrow. The company is specifically using the NBA and basketball as an opportunity to raise Pixel 6 awareness.

Given people’s tendency to search for things rather than enter URLs, Google in recent years has been directly integrated contest voting. Search and Assistant this year are again the official third-party partners for the NBA All-Star Vote.

The 2014-15 NBA season starts this week and while some organizations are adjusting to new ownership and new tech, a few prominent teams are hitting the hardwood with a new teammate. Today, ZTE announced that it will be the official smartphone sponsor of the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.
The next time you’re looking for a score or recap of a recent NBA game, you’ll find a much smoother experience directly from the Google Search page. Google noted last night that it’s starting to display high-quality video clips from NBA games next to sports scores for related queries (as pictured above).
The new embedded videos play directly on the Google Search page without sending the user to YouTube and appear to becoming directly from the NBA’s official YouTube channel. You can check out an example of the new feature here.
Google says that it plans on adding other leagues in addition to the NBA in the future.
The NBA’s Indiana Pacers have a secret weapon on and off the court and while it won’t likely improve the team’s chance of making it through the playoffs, it’s changing the way people watch professional basketball. Last month, the Pacers became the second NBA team to use Google Glass (these guys did it first) to enhance its in-game experience for fans. According to Rob Laycock, VP of marketing for the Indiana Pacers, the idea to use Glass originally came from the team’s center, Roy Hibbert.
