Verizon is now pushing Android Nougat to its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge

Samsung first pushed Android Nougat to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in mid-January of this year, but it’s taken time for each carrier to eventually push it out to their variants of the phone. Out of the four big carriers, Verizon has been the only outstanding provider to not update its S7 family. Today, though, that’s changing.

Site default logo image

Last year, LG’s attempt to make a modular smartphone with the G5 ended up being more or less a flop. This year, the company has shaken up their mobile platform by announcing the LG G6 with a complete redesign, a better software experience, and a fantastic dual camera setup. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that the LG G6 will be available on all four of the major US carriers…

Verizon introduces new unlimited data plan, $80/mo for ‘unlimited’ 4G data, texts and talk time

Site default logo image

Verizon is bringing back its unlimited data plans. With the new Verizon Unlimited plan launching on Monday, customers can use as much 4G LTE data, send as many texts as they like and talk for as long as they please … for $80 per month. An equivalent uncapped family plan charges $45 per line for 4 people, or $180 monthly.

The ‘unlimited’ plans have a few strings attached, namely hotspot tethering is limited at 10 GB for 4G (will fallback to 3G after) and although data is uncapped, high data users will not be prioritized if the network is congested …

Verizon customers are asking for more Google Pixel phones than the carrier can supply, report says

Site default logo image

There has been quite a huge advertising campaign for the Google Pixel, both by carriers and the Mountain View giant itself. And, as it turns out, the massive spending seems to have worked: a report from Wave7 Research (via Fierce Wireless) focused on Verizon is in fact describing very good results…

Google’s “Live Cases” debuted on the Nexus 5X and 6P, since expanding to the Pixel and Pixel XL. To date, we’ve seen three main options for these customizable cases ─ photos, places, and artwork. However, it seems Verizon has jumped the gun a bit, showing us two new Live Cases that have yet to be announced.

Google now says that updates for Verizon and unlocked Pixels will be released ‘simultaneously’

Last week we broke the story that Verizon would be managing system updates for Pixel devices that it sells, and the immediate assumption was that Verizon would delay those updates — not an unreasonable assumption at all based on the carrier’s track record. Now, less than a week later, Verizon has contacted ArsTechnica to state that it won’t be delaying updates. Good right?

Comment: Google, please stop advertising the Pixel as ‘only on Verizon’ because it’s incredibly misleading

Only two days have passed since Google officially announced the new Pixel smartphone, but it isn’t holding back at all in advertising these new devices. Already we’ve seen numerous online ads, some on our site, and even full page (and super expensive) USA Today ads, not to mention all the TV spots. However, there’s something wrong…

Google confirms that Verizon will handle system updates for Pixels it sells, but Google will still manage security updates

One of the biggest questions surrounding Google’s Pixel that we’ve noticed people asking about is how its Verizon exclusivity will affect it. Being the only carrier Google has partnered with, we would hope that the company had pulled some strings with Verizon to keep tight control over devices sold through the carrier. But this is Verizon we’re talking about…

US carriers respond to the Galaxy Note 7 recall, here’s what you need to know

galaxy_note7_verizon_1

Just this morning Samsung officially issued a worldwide recall of every Galaxy Note 7 on the market. Why? Due to an issue with the battery, some users were having their devices explode (mainly while charging). Samsung noted 35 cases of this issue, and that was more than enough to issue a full recall. Owners of unlocked devices will be able to get a replacement device directly from Samsung, however with carriers, things get slightly more complicated.

Verizon isn’t trying to charge customers $5 a month for unlimited 2G data anymore

Over the past few years T-Mobile has done a lot to change the industry, and despite some missteps, the changes it has implemented have changed other carriers for the better. One of the best examples of this is unlimited 2G data. Instead of getting a set amount of data followed by overage fees, customers get a limited amount of high-speed data, followed by unlimited data at considerably slower 2G speeds.

Verizon wanted to install more bloatware on phones, would have received $1-$2 per device for each app

One of the biggest downsides of buying a carrier branded Android smartphone is bloatware. Regardless of the carrier, you’re going to find at least a handful of added applications on your device which, in most cases, you can’t delete. Verizon isn’t always the worst in this area, but things could have been much worse if an idea from the company had come to fruition.
