As of late, YouTube creators have noticed an uptick in manual Content ID claims from copyright owners. The Google video service today announced fixes with a new time stamp requirement, while introducing new tools for YouTubers on the other side.
A few months back, Google and Amazon made the exciting announcement that their feud would be ending and that they would offer video services on each other’s streaming platforms. Apparently, those apps are arriving today, with YouTube for Fire TV making its return, along with Chromecast and Android TV compatibility for Amazon Prime Video.
Yesterday, YouTube updated its list of what it considers “harmful or dangerous content.” One notable addition is of “instructional hacking and phishing” videos, with the Google company reportedly already pulling existing content and issuing strikes to creators.
One big critique of YouTube is its recommendations engine that can surface videos that would otherwise not have a wide audience. The Google video site today announced “more control” by letting you remove channels from Homepage and Up Next recommendations.
Anyone who’s used YouTube for a long period of time knows that the platform’s comments section can be pretty nasty. Now, it seems YouTube wants to hide comments by default, hiding the section behind a button on its mobile application.
