Sony Tablet P lands in UK as MotoActiv gets December 1 launch

From the world of non-tablet Android devices, both Motorola and Sony have products launching in the UK including the Sony Tablet P and Motorola’s MotoACTV. You can grab the foldable 5.5-inch dual screen Sony Tablet P starting today, while the MotoACTV fitness-focused device will go up for sale on Thursday, December 1.

As for the Tablet P, expect a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, Android 3.1 on Wifi model, and Android 3.2 on 3G models. We haven’t got our hands on the dual screen experience as of yet, but we know other dual screen devices like Nintendo’s DS line rely on software designed specifically for the display setup.  Unfortunately at £500 (about $750) for the 3G model, we’re not so sure there will be a market for the Tablet P. The device is available now through Dixons and local Sony Centre stores.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Moto ACTV, it is essentially an iPod nano/Nike+ competitor allowing you to track fitness stats like calories burned as well as sync and monitor the stats online. It also includes GPS features, and the ability to transfer calls to the bundled SF700 headset/biometric sensor. The Moto ACTV will be available to UK customers later this week on December 1 for £249.99 through fitness apparel retailer sweatshop.co.uk.

DOJ to approve Google’s $400 million Admeld deal within a “couple weeks”

Back in June, we told you that Google was again trying to purchase real-time bidding startup Admeld after their first attempt fell apart. However, it looks like Goog will be successful this time around with All Things D reporting industry sources expect the Department of Justice to approve the deal within “the next couple weeks” and potentially as early as Friday. The $400 million deal was originally under the typical DOJ review process related to possible antitrust violations. All Things D reports:

It’s unclear whether the DOJ will impose any restrictions on the deal. But Web ad players, reading tea leaves and DOJ body language, are betting the sale goes through unhindered. No comment from Google; I’ve yet to hear back from a Department of Justice rep.

While the deal has of course come under scrutiny from those worried about Google’s dominance in display advertising, Google explained in a blog post back in July when the antitrust review first began why they think the business will remain competitive. That post also noted the DOJ is “obliged to review the transaction because of its purchase price”, which means the $12.5 billion Motorola deal will obviously be subject to the same process.

Kindle Fire spotted at Target and Walmart for only $123.88

A user on the SlickDeals forums spotted the Kindle Fire at both Target and Walmart available for only $123.88, on Sunday. That’s almost $80 off the original price! The sale is apparently unadvertised and it is unclear if it is still running in select stores, so we suggest you head over to your local store to check out this hell of a deal. You may even want to bring the above image with you to see if they can hook you up if the deal isn’t currently running (there’s also more after the break). It looks like you won’t be the only Kindle Fire user, seeing as Amazon had record sales (in the Kindle family) with the Kindle Fire this weekend — the company announced in a press release today. Check out the receipt after the break for more proof.
