9to5Google’s Best of CES 2018 Awards

CES 2018 was filled to the brim with Google- and Android-related products, including phones, smart home products, laptops, and more. And this year in particular was a big one for Google — the Mountain View company seemingly bought out all the available ad space on the strip and set up a huge booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Last year, we brought you the inaugural 9to5Google Best of CES Awards to spotlight our favorite products introduced at the show. Once again for 2018, we’ve been pounding the pavement (and hotel carpet) in Las Vegas all week hunting down what’s new. Here are our 2018 picks:

Google Home Max Review: After a holiday test drive, the fam loves its big sound as much as I do

When I first heard that Google was working on a larger, Sonos-like Google Home, I couldn’t have been more excited. I’d never owned a nice home speaker until the Google Home Max, because I never really had the need — much less the desire — for a “fancy home speaker”. PSA: Those supposedly-real-life Galaxy S9 images are sadly still just a concept

Post-mortem: Google Pixel C was an admirable piece of tablet hardware that sadly ran Android

Pixel C Netflix

Tablets aren’t exactly a thriving breed; people who want a high-performance tablet for whatever reason are pretty much stuck at this point with choosing between one of Apple’s iPad models (and there are many) or a Samsung Galaxy Tab. But now that it’s discontinued, I think it’s time to a take a look once again at Google’s Pixel C tablet, which was announced way back in 2015… a time long, long ago… before Google (seemingly) gave up on the idea of a tablet running Android.

Which room in your home is the best home for your Google Home? [Poll]

google home mini

If you got your first Google Home for the holidays this year, chances are you had to make the tough decision of which room in your home it will be used the most. Those of us that have several Google Homes don’t have to think about that because, well, we have a Google Home in pretty much every room. But if you have just one Google Home, where do you like to keep it?

Google’s Jacquard jacket gets new ‘Illuminate’ and ‘Find My Phone’ abilities

Google and Levi’s Jacquard-enabled jacket only just became available for the average consumer at the end of September, but Google is now pushing out its first substantial app update. It adds a couple of interesting, albeit minor, new abilities to the capacitive-fabric-bearing garment.
