OnePlus 2 will reportedly look more premium, might have a higher price

OnePlus-One-Black

The next device from OnePlus, which most assume will be called the OnePlus 2, is probably right around the corner—after all, the current-generation OnePlus One was announced over nine months ago. But what kind of changes does OnePlus have planned for it?

According to a report this morning from Business Insider, the phone is going to look and feel a lot more “premium” than its predecessor, potentially sporting a metal frame. It’s said that this might come with a price bump, however, so lets hope that’s something you’re willing to settle for.

Androidify characters are back again in Google’s ‘Selfie Slam’ ad (Video)

Android: Selfie Slam - YouTube 2015-03-03 09-06-21

It’s only been a couple weeks since the last time Google shared an Androidify ad, but now the company is back this week with yet another basketball-themed advertisement. As we noted yesterday, Google has been heavily pushing the “Be together. Not the same.” mantra at Mobile World Congress, and now that continues with a quick and cute ad uploaded on the official day one (yesterday) of the conference.

Here’s the ad:

HTC’s ‘Utopia in Progress’ Mobile World Congress event is now on YouTube for replay

HTC at MWC 2015: New Product Launch - YouTube 2015-03-02 12-21-57

HTC announced its new One M9 flagship yesterday, but the company also took time to tell us about the GRIP fitness device they’re working on with Under Armour and the new Vive virtual reality headset being made in partnership with Valve. Sunday in the United States feels like an odd time for all of these announcements to have happened (meaning they caught many of us off guard), but if you’re one of those that missed the keynote, you’re in luck. HTC has this morning uploaded the full press event video to YouTube for your viewing pleasure:

Poll: Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 compared – which is your pick?

htc-one-m9-silver-back-1

Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 (and the S6 Edge) and the HTC One M9 were announced yesterday, showcasing the best that these two Android OEMs have to offer this year. Both of these devices were horribly-kept secrets in their own ways, so there weren’t many surprises yesterday—we already knew almost every detail about both phones before they were announced.

But now that they’re here, which one do you think you’ll be getting? Or if you’re not in line for an upgrade right now, which one would be your pick? Let’s take a look at a few of their differences…

Google pushing ‘Be together. Not the same.’ at MWC, shares ‘Young Together’ Android ad

B_GI55FUoAAnaHg

Google made its Mobile World Congress presence clearly known this morning in the form of a Sundar Pichai interview (which included some really interesting tidbits), but that’s not the extent of the company’s involvement this year. The Mountain View, California company is very much pushing its “Be together. Not the same.” mantra at MWC in many of ways (like they did at CES 2015 with the pins), and those Androidify characters are popping up left and right…

This is the Huawei Watch, an extremely elegant and attractive Android Wear entry

hw_415671

As was expected (thanks to an advertisement spotted in the Barcelona Airport), Huawei came out this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain to announce its first entry into the Android Wear race: the Huawei Watch.

A first impression of the device might quickly lead you to believe that this is one of the most—if not the most—attractive Android Wear devices to launch, and based on what Huawei’s shown us, this thing might just be worthy of such a judgment…

01_Xperia_Z4_Tablet_Black_Front

Sony this morning announced their latest entry into the tablet market with a super-slim device called the Xperia Z4 Tablet, as well as an update to the mid-range Xperia M smartphone series, the Xperia M4. The former claims to be the world’s slimmest 10-inch tablet, packs a 2K-resolution display, and has the Snapdragon 810 (the chip in many of this year’s flagship smartphones) built inside. The Xperia M4 is a “no compromises” smartphone that packs waterproofing with some decent spec bumps.

20120628_Sundar_Pichai_Google_IO_001

Google SVP Sundar Pichai sat down with Bloomberg’s Brad Stone at the Mobile World Congress today in Barcelona, Spain, and as happens often, he had some pretty interesting things to say. Among other topics, the Chrome and Android lead at Google talked about the company’s goals for improving the world’s Internet connectivity through various projects (including the company’s MVNO plans), Google’s further mobile payment ambitions with Android Pay, how Android will tie into virtual reality, and more…

Advertisement for ‘Huawei Watch’ Android Wear device spotted in the Barcelona Airport

huawei-watch-airport-sign

It looks like Huawei is about to enter the Android Wear race with a new device called the “Huawei Watch,” as has been spotted by Android Central in a Barcelona Airport advertisement. Touting a “Timeless design. Smart within.” tagline, the device looks to be a classy circular smartwatch coming in gold, silver, and black variants and a few different band styles. In the reflection of the silver device, there looks to be some kind of fitness feature.

The device looks to sport an aesthetic similar to the Moto 360, but this watch seems to have a singular button that’s placed at an angle on the right side. The model of the device that’s silver seems to sport a band similar to the milanese loop that Apple showed off earlier this year alongside the Apple Watch. There’s no word yet on details like pricing and release date, but we’re at MWC in Barcelona this week and we’ll keep you updated.

Hands-on with HTC One M9 appears leading up to MWC (Video)

HTC One M9 Hands on (Before MWC 2015) - YouTube 2015-02-28 10-40-59

The HTC One M9 is almost surely going to be one of the biggest stars of the Mobile World Congress this year, but it has also arguably been one of the most-leaked handsets ever. As HTC’s event approaches, the leaks have seemed to become only more and more prevalent, and that trend is continuing today as a hands-on video of the device has appeared on YouTube…

Google’s Ingress augmented reality game is on its way to Android Wear

ingress-on-android-wear-concept

Ingress was launched on Android in 2012, but after its introduction made its way to a few other platforms. The app has been available on iOS for a while and had a port made for Google Glass, but now the Mountain View company’s augmented reality game is officially coming to Android Wear (via Engadget) at some point next month. You’ll still need an Android phone—as is the case with most Android Wear apps—but it won’t be long before you’ll be able to play Ingress without taking that phone out of your pocket.

It makes sense considering the nature of the game, as the basic premise is that you’re exploring the real world while creating virtual missions, and defending and attacking portals. While using the smartphone works fine, it makes a lot more sense that users would be able to simply glance down on their wrists to play the game—hence why a Google Glass version of the game was put together as well (although that version is no longer available). Head over to the Google Play store to get the latest version of Ingress.

Google enabling new video-trimming feature in YouTube app for Android

trim

When uploading a video to YouTube, especially from a mobile device, it’s pretty common not to want to upload a clip in its entirety. Now, Google says that it is updating the YouTube app for Android to fix this problem—you can now use a new video-trimming feature to cut off the beginning or end of your clip prior to upload.

We’re proud to introduce a new video-trimming feature and inline video previews for our app.  Now you can select the exact frame where the video starts and ends, giving you precise control of your trims in a simple, intuitive way.  Additionally, there is now an inline video preview before the video is uploaded.  And with faster upload capability, it’s never been easier to upload your YouTube videos on-the-go!

Simply drag the frame on both ends of the video to trim it where you’d like, as you can see above, and you can touch and hold the frame to get a closer view of where the video is being trimmed. Then you can tap “got it” when you’re done, and then the app will let you preview what your video will look like prior to publish.

The latest version of the app can be downloaded from the Play Store, but it’s not actually an app update that’s bringing this feature. Users who have already downloaded the YouTube app should see the feature turned on server-side. Notably, it doesn’t look like the iOS app has this feature quite yet.

VLC pushes new Android & Android TV apps as part of massive cross-platform release

VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework! 2015-02-27 09-32-14

VideoLAN has today launched several updates to VLC across its apps on iOS, Android, OS X, and every other platform where the app is available, marking the first time that the company has pushed such a massive coordinated release.  The new versions (with the main app numbered 2.2.0), include several features across the various platforms, and VLC says it took more than a year of volunteer work to put them together…
