We’ve seen a lot of great budget devices in 2016, and ZTE has made the list quite a few times. With fantastic unlocked options like the Axon 7 and Axon 7 Mini, the company has proved that it’s good at making higher-end phones for an affordable price. On the other end of the spectrum, it has also proven that ultra-cheap phones can also be good with the monstrous and great ZMax Pro over on MetroPCS. After the success of the ZTE Axon 7, ZTE is back with a new, slightly smaller and more affordable Android smartphone. The new ZTE Axon 7 Mini takes all of the best aspects of its older brother while cutting down just a bit to be an even more affordable unlocked option.
Following the launch of the ZTE ZMax Pro over on MetroPCS, ZTE is showing Boost Mobile customers some love with a new mid-range Android smartphone, the Warp 7. This device is available exclusively through Boost Mobile and is available now via its website and will be coming to stores starting September 5th.
When you think of ZTE, generally it’s not a name you’d associate with flagship devices. Despite its best efforts, the Chinese company just can’t get away from lower-end budget smartphones. But with its latest device, the ZTE ZMax Pro, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Last year, ZTE surprised us a little when it launched its Axon smartphone series. The Axon Pro, in particular, punched above its price point with a spec list that could make any tech fan’s eyes water (with tears of joy, naturally). It was one of the first devices to come with 4GB RAM, it had a QHD screen and was powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor. This year, it seems ZTE is going to refresh the range with a more premium look.
According to a report this morning out of The Information, AT&T is in talks with Cyanogen to launch a phone running a version of Android made by the company, purportedly on ZTE hardware. This is notably the first time that a US carrier has considered selling a phone running the less-Google-controlled version of Android that powers phones like the Yu Yutopia and the WileyFox Swift…
ZTE has today announced that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is now rolling out to the company’s Axon Pro smartphone. While the update may not be bringing any features specifically geared for the Axon Pro, it does bring many of the great features found in the latest version of Google’s mobile OS including Doze, Now on Tap, and more.
Of course it’s recommended that you have a WiFi connection to download this 835 MB update, and you’ll need to head to “Settings” -> “About phone” -> “System updates” -> “System updates” -> “Update Now” after the update has been downloaded. Sadly, ZTE says that this update is only for Axon Pro and that regular Axon owners should “stay tuned”.

In a press release published earlier today, ZTE has announced that it’s releasing a second generation ZMAX. Unlike last year, this model isn’t going to be a T-Mobile device. Instead, the prepaid phone will be sold by AT&T and will go on sale for $149.99 on September 25.
Yota Devices and ZTE have announced a new partnership this morning. From the next generation onwards, the chinese OEM will produce YotaPhones for the Russian manufacturer, with the 3rd gen smartphone scheduled for a Q1 2016 release. The companies haven’t revealed specifics on the financial terms of the deal, but it will see future YotaPhones be made in China and see a significant reduction in the cost of producing the devices. ZTE is buddying up with security software company AVG to pre-install AVG AntiVirus Pro on all of its new Android tablets and smartphones starting this month, the company announced in a press release. It’s only a 60-day trial, though, so you’ll have to pay up $15 if you want to continue using it after that.

I’ve been using the Sprint LivePro Android Projector/Hotspot since its release in July and have been a huge fan of the feature set, particularly the DLP Projector. The LivePro is a simple idea: Take an Android 4.2 phone and with the click of a button, mirror a powerful DLP LED beam projector out of it.
That idea may sound familiar with the Samsung Galaxy Beam (or Beam 2) being the most popular of a small subset of phones that included a projector over the past few years. The problem with the Beam and other similar phones is that 15 lumen lo-fi projectors only work well in the dark and even then, the battery only lasts about 20-30 mins while projecting. That’s after outfitting it with a super-sized battery which made the phone comically thick.
ZTE said to hell with the phone idea and added an even more massive 5000mAh battery and made the projector 100 lumens strong which gives it the ability to become a whole new type of product while keeping its Android 4.2.2 OS. The new form factor is a 4.7-inch square with a form factor similar to a current Apple TV but about 40% bigger in every direction…

ZTE announced the Blade S6 smartphone today, which packs LTE connectivity, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, and a 64-bit processor, all for a price that’s definitely in the “affordable” category.

T-Mobile is about to get a new gigantic smartphone and it isn’t the iPhone 6 Plus. The carrier recently announced that it will exclusively offer the ZTE ZMAX, starting on September 24th for $252 outright, or $10.50 per month for two years. Not exactly a game changer, the Chinese phone maker’s next big thing has a 5.7-inch HD display, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 3,400mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat.
Today, ZTE announced release plans for its nubia 5S mini, an unlocked LTE-capable budget-friendly smartphone that offers a little bang for your buck. Available on August 27th for just $280, the Chinese phone maker’s new smartphone sounds pretty decent on paper. The nubia 5S mini sports a 4.7-inch 720 x 1,280 display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 16GB of storage space, a 2,000mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfies and Hangouts.
Samsung’s troubles are far from over, says credit rating Fitch, predicting that the company’s share of the smartphone market will fall from 31 percent last year to 25 percent next year, reports the WSJ.
Nitin Soni, a Singapore-based director of corporate ratings at Fitch, warned that Samsung had lost its edge with consumers as Chinese companies like Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei make cheaper and cheaper products that meet most consumers’ needs.
He added that innovations like wearable devices and curved screens – two of Samsung’s recent tricks – are “unlikely to change the trend” …
