When it first launched in 2014, we called the Moto 360 the “best Android Wear smartwatch currently available.” And yes, there weren’t many available at the time. But that doesn’t make this title any less significant. The Moto 360 was definitely the sexiest of the first generation of Android Wear devices, and was the first to feature a round display, which is notably an LCD — unlike most other Android Wear offerings.

Being a first generation product, the Moto 360 definitely has its bugs and kinks. The device has what many have called the “flat tire,” a section at the bottom of the screen that basically serves as its bezel. As we said in our review, though, there are only a few categories that really matter: Design/build quality, functionality, and battery life. And the Moto 360 is pretty much up to par in all three (except that darn flat tire. grr.).

Motorola’s long-awaited circular Moto 360 smartwatch launched, available today for $250

Motorola has finally officially launched its much-leaked circular smartwatch, the Moto 360. Pricing has been set at $250 with a leather strap, and it goes on sale in the U.S. at noon today ET . If you want it with a silver or black metal strap, you’ll have to wait until sometime in the fall and pay $300 – or buy it today and add the metal strap later for $80 …

Motorola announces updated Moto X and Moto G smartphones, Moto Hint Bluetooth headset

Motorola has just announced the newest additions to its smartphone lineup: the second-generation models of the Moto X and Moto G, and a Bluetooth headset called Hint.

First up is the new Moto X. It looks a lot like the previous model, but don’t be fooled: it’s got an entirely new spec list and even some tweaks to the design. The display is now 1080p versus the first-gen’s 720p version, and has gotten a slight size bump up to 5.2 inches. The edge of the phone is also now wrapped with aluminum rather than plastic. The camera has been bumped to 13 megapixels and now shoots 4k video (compared to a 10 MP still shooter with 1080p video support on the last model).

The Moto Maker online tool for customizing your phone has also been updated with new options, including custom colors for the volume rocker and power button. New back plate options include the previous wood design, as well as a line of all-new real leather options.

There is definitely a lot of confusion surrounding what day Motorola is actually announcing their new products, and while the company sent out invitations for what was an event on September 4th, it turns out the official public announcements aren’t happening until 1:30 PM CT on September 5th. The wait to hear about the new Moto X, Moto G, and the Moto 360 smartwatch (and some kind of ear accessory) is almost over, and you’ll find the streaming video below.

Upcoming Android Wear-powered LG G Watch R to launch October 14th

The LG G Watch R has been surrounded by a flurry of excitement, even in lieu of the fact that the much-hyped Moto 360 is supposed to be launching soon. And the timing is likely no coincidence, as following its official announcement last week, LG has come out today at IFA 2014 in Berlin with an official release date for its own upcoming round smartwatch (via The Wall Street Journal).

Motorola’s Yo-based Moto 360 giveaway went exactly as planned

Motorola recently concluded a giveaway for its upcoming Moto 360. The giveaway was a collaboration between Motorola and Yo app which was announced yesterday with a very simple rule. First, download and install Yo on your device, then send Motorola a Yo and wait until Aug. 28, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. CT. Easy enough, right?

Motorola would then send a Yo link to all entrants and the first 20 people to click the link would win a Moto 360. Well, that’s kind of how it seemed, but that wasn’t actually the case. Motorola successfully sent a Yo link to all who initially entered, but it was a bit more complicated than just clicking a link.

LG officially announces circular G Watch R, will be released in Q4

Just a little more than a week ahead of Motorola’s press event for the Moto 360, LG tonight has officially unveiled the G Watch R. The company has been teasing the circular Android Wear device heavily for the past week, but only tonight has it become official.

Best Buy lists Moto 360 with price and feature list

Spotted by DroidLife, Best Buy this morning accidentally published the product page of the Moto 360 on their mobile site. The listing shows the smartwatch priced at $249.99, the same price we heard from Motorola when the price was accidentally published on its own product page. The page also lists a near-full spec sheet of the device, which states the watch will be waterproof at 3.3ft for up to 30 minutes, feature a vibrating motor, and Bluetooth 4.0.

Google preparing to send out Moto 360s, requesting shipping info from I/O attendees

Earlier today, Motorola started sending out invitations for what appears to be an official launch for the Moto 360 and a few other devices. Almost immediately following the company’s announcement, emails started rolling out to I/O attendees who were told that they’d receive Motorola’s first Android Wear-powered smartwatch after its release.

Google has just posted four new Google Wear ads to its YouTube channel that show off the device in every day situations. Compared with the mostly technical videos Google has posted for its Android Wear wearables platform thus far, the commercials look a lot more like TV spots aimed at regular consumers.

Motorola is sending out invitations to a media event in Chicago that will be held on September 4th. The not so subtle invite displays a picture of a watch (Moto 360), a phone with an X (maybe a Moto X+1?), a phone with a G (we’re thinking Moto G2) and a headset that’s likely some type of new wireless accessory.

Samsung and Apple will sew-up the smartwatch market, others will fail, predicts analyst

Samsung and Apple will largely own the smartwatch market between them, predicts Jackdaw Research chief analyst Jan Dawson in a report being issued later today and seen by Re/code.

Dawson said that new players should “stay out of the market,” and existing players should scale back their plans.

“We do not recommend that existing vendors should maintain current levels of investment when market growth and the overall revenue opportunity remain poor,” Dawson said. “It is unlikely that more than one or two small vendors will be able to make a sustainable business out of smartwatches in the face of competition from Samsung and […] Apple” …

Moto 360 wireless charging dock revealed, serves as bedside clock

This is what the Moto 360 wireless charging dock looks like, according to Italian site Gadget.net – and it certainly looks persuasively real. Assuming you can choose to show the time as well as the charge state, the dock effectively turns the smartwatch into a bedside clock while it’s charging overnight.

The blue circle around the outside of the watch face shows the charge level. Looking at the rear of the dock, we can’t see any detail, but it’s likely that it’s some kind of USB connector …

Get a taste of the Moto 360 with this Android Wear watch face

While Android Wear had its big launch all the way back in June, we’re still waiting for what might be the most exciting smartwatch ever — the Moto 360. The much-anticipated device may not be out yet (although it’s slated to hit before the end of the summer), but Motorola has definitely done a great job of teasing it over and over again, and part of that has been its black and white watch face that fits it ever so stylishly. Now you can get that face on your G Watch or Gear Live. The face is called Woto Watch Face, and I think it does a great job of replicating the watch face that Motorola has been showing off. It’s free on the Play Store, and works with any Android Wear device.

Rumored OnePlus OneWatch website and sketches leaked

BGR.in today received some interesting information about the rumored smartwatch by OnePlus. In case you haven’t heard of them, OnePlus is a company that sells the OnePlus One smartphone (our review here), which boasts a 5.5″ 1080P display, 2.5GHz SnapDragon 801, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of on-board storage, and other top-tier features for the low-range price of $349 off contract. Their “invite only” system spawned a polarizing response from their most dedicated fans, as OnePlus required anyone who wanted the phone to be “invited” to purchase it.

Motorola unveils the winner of its Moto 360 face-off design contest

Last month, Motorola announced that it was accepting design submissions for watch faces for its Moto 360 smartwatch. We showed you some of the best and most interesting submissions last month, as well, but today, Motorola has finally announced the winner of its contest. In a blog post, Motorola announced that out of the 1,300 submitted designs, David Pascual’s watch face was deemed the best. You can see his design at the top of this page.

Motorola says that Pascual wins one of the very first Moto 360s and the chance for his design to be featured on the watch when it ships. It’s unclear exactly what Pascual has to do for his design to be featured on the watch, but we’re guessing there’s some sort of licensing.

You can view all of the Moto 360 watch face designs on Google+. The Moto 360 is slated to go on sale later this summer.

Google I/O attendees will receive Cardboard and a pair of smartwatches

Google I/O is all about developers and while revealing that Mountain View has paid out over $5 billion to devs since last year’s show, Sundar Pichai took the time to thank the people building products on Mountain View’s platforms. As the Android boss prepared to wrap up today’s keynote, he acknowledged that developers don’t make the trip to I/O just to talk about statistics and that they also attend the event to get their hands on the latest gadgets.

Google details more about Android Wear, full SDK available later today

On stage at its Google I/O developer conference, the company talked wearables, as we expected it to. Google says that Android users check their phones “an average of 125 times a day,” so the company hopes that Android Wear paired with various wearables will help cut down on this number. Demoing it on an LG G Watch, Google showed more details about the Android Wear interface. The company also announced that starting today, the full Android Wear SDK is available to developers. Most importantly, Google announced that the LG G Watch will be available on Google Play today, although a price is still yet to be determined. The company also announced that the the Samsung Gear Live will be available today, as well. The Moto 360 will be available later this summer.

Minuum keyboard coming to Moto 360

Minuum announced today that it’s retooling its smart predictive keyboard to fit the face of circular smartwatches, like the Moto 360. Positioned along the edge of a watch, the keyboard features three rows of letters that can be used for text input. Keying in words on a small watch face might not sound like the most practical idea, but Minuum contends that voice commands don’t always cut it.

LG G Watch rumored to be given away to developers at Google I/O 2014

Every year at Google I/O the company gives away a few gadgets to the attendees of the event. Last year, Google gave away the $1,500 Chromebook Pixel to attendees, among other things. According to a report from Android Authority, Google this year plans to give out the LG G Watch for free to all the people in attendance.

Samsung patent filings show gesture-controlled wearable device with round interface

Samsung unveiled a handful of new wearable devices earlier this year, but according to some recently discovered patent filings, the company still has some more ideas in the pipeline. First discovered by SammyToday, Samsung has recently filed for a plethora of patents relating to a new wearable device that strongly resembles the Moto 360 and its circular design. The patents detail a plethora of features about the device, as well as some basic mockups of its design.
