Just as the overall design hasn’t changed much when compared to the 5, the 5T keeps the same screenshot functionality as its predecessor. That means you can still capture images using the physical power and volume buttons as well as take scrolling screenshots. Here’s how…

An app installed on OnePlus devices left root access open, poses potential security threat

Android 8.0 Oreo available for some OnePlus 3 owners, stable builds for 3, 3T, and 5 coming this month

OnePlus 3

OnePlus’ track record for software updates has been shaky, to say the least, with many owners of the OnePlus 2 and X still mourning the premature end of software updates for their devices. OnePlus previously announced that Android 8.0 Oreo would be coming to the OnePlus 3/3T by the end of the year, and it looks like that day is quickly approaching.

Update: OnePlus has reached out to let us know that “the notification is not an advertisement but rather a user survey to OnePlus 5 users.” We will let you decide whether you think it was just a simple survey or an advertisement.

If you didn’t get it from the headline, OnePlus 5 owners (including our own Hayato Huseman) have been reporting that the company that makes their phone is advertising the chance to win another one. This isn’t the first case of OnePlus doing this though, with some receiving push notifications promoting the then just released 5 in June

OnePlus releases its weather app to Google Play for faster updates

One of the best trends in Android over the past few years has been the move of pushing system apps into the Google Play Store to speed up updates. Rather than dealing with full system updates, the individual apps can be painlessly updated as needed. Today, OnePlus has pushed another of its system apps to Google Play, the weather app.

OnePlus 5 6GB vs 8GB speed test shows minimal benefit for the top-tier model [Video]

One of the big selling points of the OnePlus 5 is the inclusion of a whopping 8GB of RAM. However, that spec will cost you as that model lands at $539. On the other hand, you can save a few bucks by opting for the model equipped with a still overkill 6GB of RAM. Do you lose much by opting for more affordable model? A new speed test aims to answer just that question.

Comment: An 87 on DxOMark proves that the OnePlus 5’s camera was overhyped

Due to the higher price of the OnePlus 5 compared to the company’s previous devices, OnePlus opted to market the smartphone primarily on one feature — the new camera. When marketing a phone on just one feature, it would only make sense to ensure that specific feature is topping the charts in the industry. Unfortunately for OnePlus, that’s not quite the case.
