OnePlus started pushing out a new software update to the OnePlus 5 earlier this week, but unfortunately, it looks like that update is causing some problems for a number of people. Numerous OP5 owners reported gaming performance issues after downloading and installing the latest upgrade to OxygenOS 4.5.7, and as such, OnePlus has halted the new software’s rollout.

Update: OnePlus has reached out to let us know that “the notification is not an advertisement but rather a user survey to OnePlus 5 users.” We will let you decide whether you think it was just a simple survey or an advertisement.

If you didn’t get it from the headline, OnePlus 5 owners (including our own Hayato Huseman) have been reporting that the company that makes their phone is advertising the chance to win another one. This isn’t the first case of OnePlus doing this though, with some receiving push notifications promoting the then just released 5 in June…

Due to the higher price of the OnePlus 5 compared to the company’s previous devices, OnePlus opted to market the smartphone primarily on one feature — the new camera. When marketing a phone on just one feature, it would only make sense to ensure that specific feature is topping the charts in the industry. Unfortunately for OnePlus, that’s not quite the case.
