A plethora of new Huawei P9 images just leaked on Weibo [Gallery]

Huawei’s upcoming P9 flagship has pretty much been completely revealed at this point, but ten or so more leaked images of the phone in the flesh can’t hurt, right? The phone, set to be announced early next month in London, will see the addition of a dual-camera set up, a new fingerprint sensor on the back, and of course upgraded specs compared to the P8…

This future LeEco phone concept shows off an edge-screened, buttonless beauty [Gallery]

Site default logo image

Chinese company LeEco (previously LeTV) hasn’t launched a phone in the United States yet, but reports from last year say that that’s probably going to change soon. Hopefully, when they do, this is the phone that they’ll launch. We’ve recently gotten our hands on these official LeEco-made renders depicting a future phone concept, sporting a Samsung-like edge screen, and a sleek all-metal buttonless design…

New leaked Galaxy S7 image may be our first glimpse of an actual device

Update: Another image has popped up, this time of the front.

Samsug is preparing to show off its newest generation of smartphones at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain later this month, but now it appears we might have our first picture of what might be the Galaxy S7 in the flesh (via ReviewDao.vn). We’ve seen several leaked renders (most notably some very official-looking ones that popped up last week via Evan Blass), and today’s image seems to line up perfectly with what the phone is likely going to look like…

Lenovo’s Lemon 3 launches in China, is clearly a direct competitor to the Redmi 3

Lenovo has today launched a budget phone in China, and it’s called the Lemon 3. Notably, this is different than the phone that leaked last year that also had a citrus-y name. While the Lemon X (which launched in Chinese markets a couple of months ago under the name Vibe X3) is aimed at the mid-range, the Lemon 3 is aimed at the lower end of the market…

Google puts two more stock Android apps on the Play Store: Phone & Contacts

Update 2: And they’re back!

Google has slowly been moving many of its in-house built stock apps to the Play Store for quite some time now, and today two more apps were added to that list. Starting now, you’ll be able to download and update both the stock Dialer app and the Google Contacts app via their Play Store listings…

The Mate 8 is shaping up to be the best Huawei phone yet, and this time around people might actually care. T-Mobile pushes minor battery improvements to its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

T-Mobile has today released minor updates for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge this morning, including some improvements for battery life. Both phones received Android 5.1.1 fairly recently, and now, the “Uncarrier” is releasing a couple of bug fixers. The S6 update notes battery improvements and “various bug fixes and device improvements” for the Galaxy S6, and the S6 Edge adds a “cocktailbar error fix”…

LG’s G4 gets an iFixit teardown, beats all of this year’s flagships in repairability

This year’s Android flagships have really gotten the beating from iFixit. The group gave the HTC One M9 a 2/10 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 a slightly-better 4/10, just as two examples. But the LG G4, which many believe to be the best Android handset introduced this year as of yet, seems to have an advantage in terms of repairability as well. At least partially due to the fact that it’s one of the only handsets left that has a removable back, iFixit has graced LG’s flagship with a repairability score of 8/10.

Samsung’s BLADE edge smart-knife is perfect for food photos, completely fake

The April Fools’ Day jokes are already streaming in full-force, and Samsung is kicking theirs off a day early with the “announcement” of the new Galaxy BLADE edge smart phone/knife. They may be making fun of themselves more than they think, though, making a joke of a feature many have widely considered to be a gimmick in the first place. The BLADE edge sports a “diamond edge blade,” “patented curved ergonomic ceramic,” a “100% water- and fire-proof display” and a handle that comes in 4 different materials.

Oh, and it comes with a stylus that doubles as a meat thermometer, called the S-Thermometer:

Galaxy BLADE edge comes with a stylus that doubles as a wireless meat thermometer and baking tool, to let you know when your pan-seared foie gras is the right temperature, and when your baked camembert is ready to be taken out of the oven. Use it to ensure the correct water temperature when cooking braised beef short ribs sous vide.

It would be pretty convenient for those who enjoy taking photos of their food to have a camera directly attached to a kitchen knife. Maybe you could even use the blade/device to livestream your cooking from the point of view of the knife/phone. That would be interesting. Of course, this product isn’t real by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s definitely something worth about 5 seconds of chuckling at as you go about your April Fools’ day. It’s probably best to heir on the side of caution for a couple days—this post from Samsung is just the beginning.

‘Samsung couldn’t build a good OS if they tried’ says Cyanogen CEO at Yureka smartphone launch

A new company being birthed from Micromax (similar to how OnePlus came from OPPO) called YU Digital has launched a new middle-tier smartphone today for the Indian market, and it runs Cyanogen OS 11—much like the OnePlus One. In fact, this entire launch seems pretty familiar, as it appears YU Digital is attempting to do with the Yureka exactly what OnePlus did with the One: launch a phone out of nowhere at a killer price and hope viral marketing does its thing.

Hangouts Dialer can now be used as a system dialer, replace your phone for good

Before today, if you wanted to replace your phone with the Hangouts Dialer, it was a pain. The app didn’t actually identify itself as a system dialer, meaning that tapping phone numbers within other apps wouldn’t let you dial out via Hangouts. Calling out from the Yelp app or within Chrome meant using your phone’s app, and you were never prompted with the option to go with the Hangouts Dialer instead.

Today we’re launching an update to Hangouts Dialer. You’ll now be able to use Dialer to place calls initiated from other apps like your browser or Maps, directly from the Hangouts Android app. Just select Hangouts Dialer when you’re choosing your call method.

This is all changing with the latest release of Hangouts Dialer, meaning the app will finally be useful for many people. As you can see in the screenshot above, tapping a phone number within another app will now prompt you with the option to go with the standard Phone app or the Hangouts Dialer. And if you’re sure you want to always use Hangouts, you can choose “Always” and never deal with this problem again.

Keep an eye on the Play Store today for the app to be updated.

AirDroid 3 is a third-party Android solution for Apple’s ‘Continuity’ features

AirDroid is a well known Android app that has long allowed you to remote-control your Android phone from a Windows or Mac OS X machine. But with the countless updates that Apple brought to iOS this year and the continuity features that tie the iPhone and Mac OS together seamlessly, Android users were left with much to desire. The latest version of AirDroid makes an attempt at filling that hole in Android users’ hearts with its latest release, bringing tons of features that make using your phone from a desktop environment easier than ever.

Leaked photo confirms our Motorola Nexus ‘Shamu’ mock ups from yesterday

Site default logo image

Following our report from yesterday, the first real photo of the purported Nexus 6/X Motorola “Shamu” has surfaced on the internet. The photo appeared in a thread on the XDA-Developers community and was apparently posted by one named “Michael Sudol.” Notably, the photo is almost perfectly in line with the mock up we shared less than 24 hours ago, noting the device’s aluminum edges and build almost identical to that of the second generation Moto X.

What exactly this device will turn out to be is still unknown, but all rumors have pointed toward it being part of Google’s upcoming lineup of Nexus devices (one piece of evidence is that all Nexus devices have had ocean-themed names). While a 5.2-inch variation of this device is seemingly floating around, the device we’re familiar with has a 5.92-inch screen, QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 of 498 PPI, a 3,200 mAh battery, a 13 MP camera on the back, and a 2 MP front camera.

Analyst: Play Store and iOS App Store rapidly growing, Windows Phone fails to impress

Analyst Alex Barredo today tweeted a photo today depicting the size of the app stores on all major mobile platforms. According to the chart, Android’s Play Store has the most apps, with iOS’ App Store not too far behind it. Both are growing rapidly, and both are approaching the 1.4 billion mark.
