Originally teased for I/O 2018, Google today is announcing a new .app top-level domain. Google bid and purchased the TLD in 2015 for a notable $25 million and is launching it today with apps, developers, and security in mind.
According to a report this morning out of Android Police, Google is working on an app for live support on Nexus devices. Tentatively named “Google Support,” the app — think Amazon’s Mayday button — will allow users to quickly get help with their phones. This app also reportedly features the ability to share your screen with the real agent on the other end, making getting help just that much easier…

BitTorrent today has announced that it is bringing a new app to Android that allows users to stream a variety of videos and music, mostly from independent and generally unknown artists and filmmakers. The app doesn’t let you access the insurmountable amount of illegal content available on various torrent sites, but rather on-demand streaming content that’s perfectly legal.

Dropbox is getting some notable updates today for both the mobile apps and desktop that bring a number of new productivity tools and features to the service. It’s also changing its mobile camera uploads feature for basic users to require they have the desktop app installed or a paid Pro account.

The TED Android app has received a significant update today that brings with it a host of new features and a new interface. The update is the first major redesign the TED Android app has received since it was released in 2012 and bumps it to version 3.0.

The Nvidia Shield set-top box is about to become the “first all-one Plex box” as Plex announced today the Android TV-based device will gain full media server support later this month. That’s in addition to the Android app offering it currently has and will make the Shield the first device other than a dedicated PC, Mac or NAS with full support for the popular Plex Media Server.

As part of an update to the Outlook application for Android, Microsoft has announced today the addition of a new Android Wear watch face. Following the launch of Gboard yesterday, Google has released a version of the I/O 2016 conference app for iOS. With the dedicated app, attendees who use iPhone won’t have to rely on I/O’s mobile site.

The app originally launched in beta as an iOS exclusive, but today is officially out of beta and available on Android. The app was popular when it first launched but has since waned in use, though Neistat hopes that today’s update and release on Android will change that.

Nokia announced today plans to purchase Withings, maker of many popular healthcare related accessories and companion apps for Android smartphones and other mobile devices.
The company said the 170 million Euro purchase would see Withings become part of its Nokia Technologies business and help jump-start its new efforts at Digital Health products.

Popular short-form video sharing service Vine has today announced a new feature that avid users of the service could appreciate. In a blog post, the Twitter-owned service announced that there is now a “Watch” button on all Vine channels that allows viewers to seamlessly watch all of the content from a single channel with one tap.
