The arrival of the Chromecast with Google TV two years ago made it clear that older Chromecast devices are on their way out. But now – as if to put the final nail in the coffin – older Chromecasts no longer support watching YouTube videos while signed in.

The Android 12 July security patch was pretty straightforward this morning, but Google is more than making it up with the Pixel’s trio of new frog-filled Curated Culture wallpapers.

The July security patch is rolling out to Pixel (4/XL, 4a, 4a 5G, 5, 5a, 6, and 6 Pro) phones today in what should be one of — if not — the last Android 12 updates before the next major version of Google’s OS launches.

Just before and right after the Pixel 6 Pro launch last year, there were signs that Google was working on face unlock. It obviously hasn’t launched, and this is the latest we’re hearing on the situation.

Announced on Monday as part of the June Feature Drop, the Pixel’s At a Glance widget now offers a very convenient Flashlight reminder and control. 

We spotted in Android 13 Beta 3 how the Pixel Battery widget can be resized into smaller sizes, but you don’t have to wait for a new operating system to benefit. A Settings Services update is rolling out on Android 12 along with a partial Wear OS appearance.

With the launch of QPR3 and the June Pixel Feature Drop today, the Android 12 Beta Program is ending with users not needing to take any further action.

Back in January, Google had to make changes to Speaker Groups because of the US ITC ruling in favor of Sonos. Another “interruption caused by Sonos” is now responsible for some Pixel phones in the United States and Canada being unable to to set-up Google Home devices.

In addition to bringing Android 12 QPR3 and the quarterly Feature Drop, the June security patch fixes 35 issues for the Pixel 4 to Pixel 6 Pro.

After three months of testing, Android 12 QPR3 with the June security patch is rolling out today for the Pixel 4/XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro.

Google is rolling out the Pixel’s eleventh Feature Drop this June with Android 12 QPR3. It’s available for the Pixel 4/XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro from today onwards.

Back in September of 2020, Google’s internal Area 120 incubator introduced Orion Wifi to let public venues sell Wi-Fi capacity to cellular carriers. Google Fi is now using this approach to expand coverage and calling it the “W+ network.”
