Everyone waxes lyrical about what the Essential Phone offers and one of those things is most definitely the rapid security and OS updates. Right on cue, the Essential Phone has also received the February security patch practically at the same time as Pixel devices.
The February security patch rolled out this morning to all Pixel phones running Android 9 Pie. Google opted not to provide a list of included functional updates — only noting “improvements to various parts” of Android — but there are a handful of user-facing changes this month.
With 2019 well under way, Google today released the February security patch for the Pixel phone lineup, as well as the Pixel C tablet. However, Google did not provide a list of the functional updates for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL this month.
Samsung has been working surprisingly quick on rolling out Android Pie to its portfolio, and today that continues with the Galaxy Note 9. AT&T Galaxy Note 9 owners are reporting Android Pie rolling out right now.
Verizon used to be the slowest carrier when it came to releasing Android updates, but in recent years that’s been changing. More and more often, Big Red is one of the first to launch a new update. Today, the Samsung Galaxy S9 on Verizon is picking up Android Pie, one of the first carriers to get the update.
Yet more Android Pie update news for Samsung devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is officially receiving the Android Pie update for UK users (as initially reported by SamMobile).
We’ve been reporting about the Android Pie updates for the Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+ and Galaxy Note 9 for some time, to the point it is likely becoming annoying to read about the delays and hold-ups.

Finally, we are seeing US Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy S8 and S8+ users get the chance to join the Android Pie beta program. Samsung has opened up the option to unlocked device owners for the time, however, that may change in the near future.
Last month, we saw Android Pie head to the Moto G6 Plus, but were disappointed that the two other devices in the G6 series were left wanting. It appears that Motorola are now gearing up for an Android Pie roll-out for the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play.

Android Pie’s slow rollout has seen a few names push out updates, and one of the first was HMD Global’s Nokia. Today, the company has shared a fresh roadmap detailing when to expect Android Pie on several other Nokia devices.

The official Android Pie update for the Nokia 8 Sirocco should now be rolling out to devices globally after being confirmed by HMD via press release.
Last month’s OTA update addressed a number of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL problems, including RAM management and related camera performance bugs. The January security patch is rolling out today and continues to resolve issues, namely one related to video recording.
