Ahead of the launch of Matter and its smart home reinvention later this year, Google has some big new announcements for the Google Home app, including support for a website where you’ll be able to view live feeds for Nest cameras, and unlock more powerful script editor automation in the future.

If you’ve purchased any of Google’s new Nest cameras in the past year, you’re probably familiar with the awful experience that comes with trying to view recordings. With its redesigned Google Home app, the company is finally fixing the problem by stealing the history page from the old Nest app.

In addition to the Nest Wifi Pro and new Doorbell (wired), the expected Google Home app redesign was officially announced with “customization and personalization a core principle”. It’s a big overhaul, and you can sign up now for the preview program starting today. 

Back in September, the Google Home app leaked the new wired Nest Doorbell that the company pre-announced last year. It’s already showing up in stores with availability as soon as this week.

The beauty of smart home systems like Google Home is that you can connect tons of different devices from a plethora of different manufacturers. How well those devices work with Google Home is a complicated matter, however. We’ll go over cameras that work well with the Google Home app and how to take advantage of any Google Home device.

Back in June, we reported that Google was working on a new Wi-Fi 6 router, and it has now leaked as the “Nest Wifi Pro.”

Working with The National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (National ACE) and the Asian American Federation, Google wants to “provide security devices and resources to AAPI-owned small businesses” in the form of Nest Cam Kits. 

Just under a year ago, Google announced that it will be “launching a 2nd generation of Nest Doorbell (wired) in 2022.” Ahead of the October 6 event, which will feature smart home products, the latest version of the Google Home app reveals the new wired Nest Doorbell in its (visual) entirety.

In August of 2020, Google announced a $450 million partnership with ADT and is now committing another $150 million. Meanwhile, the security company is now partnering with insurance provider State Farm.

Google primarily teased the Pixel 7, 7 Pro, and Watch in announcing its October 6 event this morning, but it will also introduce the “latest smart home devices from Nest.”

Google’s Nest Doorbell is a solid option for adding a camera and smart alerts throughout your home, even if home is an apartment. Now, Google has confirmed this year’s holiday schedule for seasonal Nest Doorbell ringtones.

Ahead of this fall’s Made by Google event, a new “Wireless Device” has shown up at the FCC, which could be a new product for the company’s Nest lineup.

Last year, Google refreshed the Nest camera lineup for the first time in several years, but it also came with a change on the software side of things. The Google Home app is supposed to replace the Nest app, but the transition period has been a maddening limbo. Nearly a year later, virtually nothing has changed on that front either.

Following last year’s introduction of revamped Cams and Doorbell, Google is now letting Amazon users control 2021 Nest products with Alexa.

Following last week’s spotlight and initial discount, the Google Store is running a number of Nest smart home deals for Earth Day. 

Last year, Google introduced a new Bug Hunters platform to encompass all its Vulnerability Reward Programs. An expanded “Android and Google Devices Security Reward Program” now brings Nest and Fitbit into the fold with Pixel.

To date, Google has released three Assistant Smart Displays. 9to5Google can now report that the company is working on a new Nest Hub for 2022 with a dockable tablet form factor where the screen detaches from a base/speaker.
