Between all the “X” and “Z” phones released in the past year or so, we all got a little confused. Sony‘s strategy, in particular, seemed everything but clear in regards to its devices’ hierarchy. However, using Barcelona’s MWC as a platform, the Japanese firm announced what it explicitly labels as its “flagship”: the Xperia XZ Premium.
You’ve seen it, you’ve heard its specs, you know it’s coming (and when); and, yet, you have never quite had a look at it in this way. Almost all at once, not one but two videos of Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S8 emerged, and with them a somewhat clean shot (via Slash Leaks) of a working unit…
Barcelona’s famous fair, the Mobile World Congress, is just around the corner. As always, (almost) all the big names in mobile will join the party to show the latest and greatest coming out of their R&D. And while Samsung’s absence may represent a hit for the general vibe of the coming days, there will certainly be no shortage of new products and announcements.
Twitter is every tech-head’s favorite social network, so it obviously needs a good app to be enjoyed with. The company’s own is a little lackluster, but fortunately good alternatives are around on Android. And my personal favorite, Flamingo, just got its biggest update yet…
Prepare for a cuteness overload-induced meltdown. Because if this letter (whose veracity has been certified by Business Insider), sent by 7-year old Chloe Bridgewater, doesn’t make you go all “awwwww”, then you’re probably a terrible human being. But the best part of it is still its receiver, who actually got to read it and eventually responded, too…
These are not the best days for HTC. The Taiwanese company has been stumbling for quite a while, both financially and in the eye of critics and consumers. One thing seems to have paid off, however: its VR efforts. That’s why, as per a CNET interview, the company is looking forward to progressively shifting its core business to that…
Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress is approaching fast, which only means that leaks are increasingly hard to avoid. Today is the turn of Huawei, which is expected to launch its P10 flagship during the fair; however, 91mobiles (in collaboration with Steve Hemmerstoffer) has managed to give us a pretty comprehensive early look at it…
It is no surprise that devices enjoying deep hardware and software integration tend to be the best. You may like them, you may not; but that tight connection generally makes phones, tablets, computers and all sorts of electronics work better. However, there’s an additional tile to it, one that Xiaomi is seemingly prepping to integrate…
It’s not that you haven’t seen them a million times already, or that there’s really much left to wait for. Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and, even before that, the LG G6, are well on their way, and you will see proper reviews popping up everywhere (including here, obviously) very soon.
But there are some new images of leaked cases for both which give us an even better look at them, so here they are…
Oh, the Galaxy S8. After the news avalanche two days ago we figured it would take a while for more to pour in, but obviously we were wrong. And so here you go: thanks to the evergreen Evan Blass (via VentureBeat) you can now lay your eyes on what is an almost certainly genuine picture of Samsung‘s upcoming flagship…
2017 is shaping up to be quite an interesting year in consumer electronics, and smartphones in particular may — finally — become very interesting once again. It’s the destiny of a largely saturated and commoditized market, where in order to thrive the competition needs to push the innovation pedal. Polarization is a phenomenon we observe in this market, as increasingly cheaper smartphones become good enough, and consumers become more reluctant to buy decidedly more expensive devices that don’t add much to the basic experience provided by solid, lower-end phones.
On the high end of the spectrum, a brand’s sole power and image become less and less of a reason to shell out the (significant and growing) extra amount of money, and new advancements — whether in design, software or some cool new tech — need to emerge to justify it. Companies can either settle (and risk becoming irrelevant) or innovate and skyrocket to the top (and the future). In this situation, staying in the middle could mean spreading too thin and not being able to stand out and keep up with the competition. This, in my opinion, is the case of OEMs like HTC, LG, Sony or Motorola; but, more interestingly, OnePlus…
2017 indeed has what it takes to become one of the craziest years in consumer electronics; between returning old giants, sumptuous anniversaries and trust issues to resolve, the potential is everything but lacking. All of that said, one of the weirdest, most interesting trends could be flexible, foldable smartphones…
As the criteria (price, most importantly) for defining a ‘high-end’ smartphone becomes more and more blurred, new devices are filling in the gaps of the evolving smartphone market. Such is the case of the just-announced Galaxy C9 Pro, which sets its foot firmly in the midrange space while trying to aim a little higher…
There has been quite a hugeadvertisingcampaign for the Google Pixel, both by carriers and the Mountain View giant itself. And, as it turns out, the massive spending seems to have worked: a report from Wave7 Research (via Fierce Wireless) focused on Verizon is in fact describing very good results…
There have been quite a few rumors and alleged leaks of Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S8 in the past week-ish, so we figured this could be your one-stop for everything surfaced, from sizes to renders to beloved and slowly fading ports — so let’s break it down…
Update: Apparently, the devices in question are in fact not Nokia’s, nor they actually have anything to do with the Finnish company. As per a video from WinFuture’s channel (in German), it looks like these are simply reference design phones made by Qualcomm itself. All in all, now that I can see the whole thing better, I’m just glad it’s that way. Hopefully February’s announcement will bring some excitement.
We reported yesterday about Nokia‘s likely intention to unveil a flagship Android smartphone outside of China on February 26, a day before the beginning of this year’s Mobile World Congress. However, it looks like the cat may already be out of the bag.
As it turns out, Nokia’s trojan horse back into the smartphone world was present at CES, albeit in disguise. The alleged ‘Nokia 8’ was showcased at Qualcomm‘s booth, where the company asked people not to take photos of it. Of course, however, someone did (via GSM Arena)…
When using the word ‘google-y,’ there are more than a few things that usually come to mind. One of them is, indubitably, creativity. And creativity is at the core of Google’s new app “Toontastic 3D”, launching today on Android and iOS…
Google, much like most other players in the industry, has made AI one of its absolute priorities. One of the areas where it has been applied is speech recognition, where Google has made significant progress over the past few years…
Android notifications are great, and they are getting better. However, it happens from time to time that, as Google enriches and improves them, OEMs don’t necessarily follow. And fortunately, that is about to change…
Remember Samsung‘s amazing foldable and rollable display technologies that were rumored to be in the works as part of a larger smartphone project? As it turns out, the so-called ‘Galaxy X’ is seemingly closer and closer to completion, with just a few bureaucratic issues to resolve…
HMD Global, the Finnish company using the Nokia branding to make Android smartphones, has just opened up about its 2017 plans, and it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer to learn about what’s coming…
Following the Note 7 fiasco, Samsung has quite a lot to make up for. Of course, its best shot at regaining customers’ trust will be the forthcoming Galaxy S8, and if it wasn’t clear enough, the Korean giant is aiming high. Here is the latest proof…
As per a report from The Investor, the electronics firm “has requested its partners to supply (parts) based on [Samsung’s] 60 million shipment goal.” These are the words of an unnamed industry source, who also told the paper that the release schedule has changed…
