From the Pixel 4a onwards, Google dropped support for Playground in Camera, and the long wind down continues with the various AR sticker packs recently delisted from the Play Store.

Since 2017, the Google Camera app has been home to fun AR stickers that let you liven up photos and videos. Later rebranded to Playground, Google is dropping support for these Playmoji characters on future Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 4a.

The most obvious photography difference between the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a is the front-facing camera. An update to Playground this week adds a “Selfie mode” for AR Playmoji on Google’s mid-range Pixel phone.
While the Pixel 3a’s rear camera is near identical to the Pixel 3’s, the front-facer has obvious differences. Along with the single lens, Playground currently does not support the front camera for adding Playmoji AR stickers.
Ahead of Avengers: Endgame last month, Google released more Marvel superhero Playmoji AR stickers. The company is back today with new Detective Pikachu Playmoji stickers before the movie’s release next week. Playground is now also available on select Motorola and LG devices.
Ahead of next week’s Avengers: Endgame premiere, Google is updating the Avengers Playground sticker pack with more superheroes. Five new characters join the existing set first introduced with the Pixel 3 in October.
Over the past few weeks, Google has been doubling down on the PIxel’s AR Emoji feature. Now, following the Childish Gambino and Valentine’s Day packs, Google has released Japanese Phrases for Playground on Pixel.
Earlier this month, Playmoji on the Pixel 3 was showcased in front of a wide audience at the Grammys. It served as a demo of augmented reality’s many fun use cases. Playground 2.2 now reveals work on AR Animals and the continued development of AR Shopping, as well as another promo with Marvel for International Women’s Day.

Just a few days after dropping its Childish Gambino pack with some excellent new ads to go alongside it, Google is releasing another new set of Playmoji characters for Pixel owners. The new Love Playmoji pack is available now for all Pixel owners.
If you’ve got a Google Pixel device, you’ve also got access to the Playground, a suite of augmented reality characters and objects to insert into your videos and photos. Today, Google is announcing its latest addition to the Playground, an AR version of recording artist Childish Gambino.
Alongside other camera announcements at Made by Google 2018, the company also revamped AR Stickers introduced the year before. On the Pixel 3, Playground is the new name for fun augmented animations on photos and videos. It is now rolling out to older devices like the original Made by Google device and Pixel 2.
As we detailed last night, the camera is a big focus for the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. One feature Google announced in 2017 was AR Stickers, and this year they have been renamed to ‘Playground‘ with four new packs now available on the Play Store.
Launching exclusively on the Pixel last year, AR Stickers take advantage of ARCore to overlay interactive animations in photos and videos. Version 1.3 is rolling out today and unbundles the default Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Stranger Things sticker packs to make the app significantly smaller.
The camera found on LG devices is never really the most impressive, but the company tends to include some genuinely useful and fun features. Now, the company is preparing to bring Google’s AR Stickers to its latest device, the LG G7 ThinQ.
For Pixel and Pixel 2 owners, the stellar camera is further complimented by whimsical features like AR Stickers. Launched in December and hitting 1.1 earler this year, version 1.2 is now rolling out with live previews for animated stickers, while more packs are getting unbundled into separate listings.
Last month, Motions Stills hit version 2.0 with a redesigned interface and a neat AR Stickers feature that brings a taste of what the Pixel 2 is doing with ARCore to any device. A small update this month adds a handful of new stickers and more realistic shadows.
AR Stickers for the Pixel and Pixel 2 were announced at the October 4th event and launched in December with Star Wars and Stranger Things content. In time for the 2018 Winter Olympics, Google is now launching a new “Winter Sports” pack and updating another.
