What is Google Pixel 3 XL?

Google Pixel 3 XL is the larger of the two flagship phones from Google in 2018. As you may already know the primary difference with the larger 3 XL model is that the display larger, has a notable display cutout (otherwise known as a notch), and the phone itself is bigger. Functionally and specs-wise, the two phones are going to be almost exactly the same.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Features

The Google Pixel 3 XL is a moderate upgrade over its predecessor, the Pixel 2 XL. It of course brings Android 9 Pie, which itself has many upgrades, but that software is also coming to all other Google Pixel owners.

The new Android 9 Pie OS brings design changes, the new gesture-based navigation system (which may be the default on the Pixel 3 for the first time), a handy screenshot editor tool, AI-powered brightness and battery features, a completely overhauled multitasking screen, and Digital Wellbeing.

On the hardware side of things, we expect to see the return of the Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor and the squeezable Active Edge to activate the Google Assistant. This year, though, the Pixels will finally add wireless charging to the mix — as well as a dock called the Pixel Stand to support that.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Release Date

Google Pixel 3 XL is expected to launch on October 9th at the Made by Google 2018 event. Pre-orders will likely go live soon after, and the device will likely begin shipping before the end of October.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Specs

The Google Pixel 3 XL, like its smaller sibling, packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, an Adreno 630 GPU, 4GB RAM, and a 3,430 mAh battery. The display is likely to have a resolution of 2960×1440, although benchmark tests as of yet aren’t totally clear on what the exact size of the display will be given the large notch.

It’s not clear which storage tiers the phone will launch with, but we know for sure that there are models with both 64GB (the majority) and 128GB of storage space (one sole unit). The phone has stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0 + LE, Wi-Fi 2.4G + 5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, eSIM, GPS, GLONASS, proximity and ambient light sensor, and other sensors.

As far as the cameras go, there’s nothing all too surprising when it comes to hardware. We expect that the back shooter will be a 12.2MP shooter, while the two front shooters will both be 8.1-megapixels — one being wide angle.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Where to buy

Google Pixel 3 XL will be available from the Google Store, and likely many retailers that we know sell its older siblings. The Pixel 2 and 2 XL were available at the Google Store, via Project Fi’s website, at Verizon stores, at Best Buy, and at various other online outlets. You should expect the same with the Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Price

We don’t know the official pricing for the Google Pixel 3 XL, but we expect it may be similar to that of the Pixel 2 XL, which started at $849 USD.

Google Pixel 3 XL Stories Today

Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launch later this week and our full, lengthy review, has already been published. One of the biggest areas where Google has improved on these devices, however, is on the OLED displays being used. Now, that new Pixel 3 XL display is being put to the test, and DisplayMate has its in-depth results.

The Google Pixel is back for its third year, and I’ll cut to the chase: Google has basically nailed these phones in every regard, save for a few subjective caveats you already know about. They’re both in many ways my favorite don’t-call-them-Android phones, Google’s best attempt yet at making the Pixel lineup compelling to anyone, and two of the best phones you can buy overall. For lots of iPhone users and Android users alike, these should both be seriously considered as your next…

Google Pixel 3 XL Stories October 12

Many initial impressions with the Google Pixel 3 from around the web have noted something potentially problematic about the new Google flagship’s smooth touch glass back. Perhaps most notable was a photo that ArsTechnica‘s Ron Amadeo took in the demo space of a phone that had what looked to be egregious scratches on the back… on day one

So I decided to do a brief test myself, by making a custom 9to5Google-branded Pixel 3 XL.

With Google’s latest crop of Pixel devices, the company has made some key changes in the design department. The biggest change by far is that of the new glass back on the device which has a matte coating on the bottom portion. At the launch event, it was found that the back scratched somewhat easily, but an impromptu Pixel 3 scratch test has seemingly revealed better damage resistance than we thought.

Google Pixel 3 XL Stories October 11

Android is the world’s most ubiquitous OS and one of the most important parts of Google’s business. But it’s becoming clearer that the company no longer wants the word associated with its phones. The latest evidence is in the transcript for its event this week in New York City.

As usual, the focus of Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones is the camera. Rick Osterloh even said when presenting the devices that the company had “built the best camera, and put it in the most helpful phone.” Now, a few days after the event, we’re still digging up bits of information on the camera. Here are a few more Pixel 3 camera details you might not have known.
