Expand Expanding CloseWhen buying a smartphone locally, choices usually boil down to either a carrier store or the one-stop shop that is Best Buy. Apparently, though, Best Buy is testing out a plan that would see stores pushing a single carrier instead of multiple, as well as only shipping phones purchased rather than handing them out in store.
Expand Expanding CloseDealing with a broken smartphone is never fun, and with Google’s mixed history of repair support, it can be a true nightmare. However, we’re now hearing that Best Buy will soon offer in-store repairs for Google Pixel smartphones.
Expand Expanding CloseSome companies have been struggling with the adoption of the eSIM standard, while others are embracing it with arms wide open. Mint Mobile seems to be part of the latter group, bringing eSIMs for purchase to Best Buy and Target.
Expand Expanding CloseOne of the areas in which many Android devices fall behind Apple is the lack of easy access to repairs, but that’s something Samsung is actively working to change. This week, Samsung has announced a partnership with Best Buy that will bring smartphone repairs even for foldables to US Best Buy locations.

Expand Expanding CloseFor the past couple of months, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has gone from a skeptical announcement to raving reviews to absolute disaster. Now, the device is still delayed with no release date on the horizon. To make things even more uncertain, Best Buy has just announced that it is canceling all Galaxy Fold pre-orders.
We’ve seen Google play around in retail spaces before, but nothing has ever stuck. Currently, the best bet for buying Google hardware in a local store is at a Verizon store or your local Best Buy. Now, Google is expanding its footprint in the latter…
Expanding on their collection of budget friendly Android smartphones, Huawei has today announced the Honor 5A, a new $100 smartphone for the Chinese market. This device will ship in two variants, one for China Netcom, the other for remaining markets.

Update: T-Mobile has just announced that customers will be able to order the LG G5 from its online store from March 29th. Anyone who orders before April 5th will be able to claim a free LG 360 CAM, and those who buy before April 17th can get a the free battery bundle mentioned below.
Following the recent announcement that the LG G5 would be available from major US retailers in early April, Best Buy has launched pre-orders through its online store for the all-metal modular flagship.
Both AT&T and Sprint versions are available in gold, silver and titanium, but if you want pink, you’ll need to go with Sprint. And while Verizon models aren’t available to pre-order yet, Best Buy will be accepting orders for those on Thursday, March 24th.
While the Nexus 6P has been listed on Amazon for quite some time, it was only available through third-party sellers until today. The phone’s availability is currently rolling out now as sold by Amazon itself, and while the 32 GB and 128 GB models are not yet available (at the time of this writing, at least), the 64 GB model is currently listed at $499, which matches the current price on the Google Store.
The Nexus 6P’s availability has been broadening as of late, most recently becoming available at Best Buy as we told you would happen. The gold “Special Edition” model has also become available in India through FlipKart, and we expect that availability of that version will spread to the United States soon. In other related news, you would be foolish not to pick up the 32GB Nexus 6 at $250 via Amazon.
Earlier this week, we reported that Google is going to start selling the Nexus 6P through Best Buy. In the US, the Google Store was the exclusive seller of flagship Nexus devices at launch. Over time more and more retailers started to sell the 5X and Best Buy is now the first to sell the 6P.
As a way of saying “thanks!”, Google is offering a $20 Best Buy eGift Card for free when you use Android Pay on an eligible Nexus device. The credit gets added automatically to your Android Pay app by January 31.
That’s the best offer we’ve seen involving Android Pay, even though Samsung offered a free $50 Best Buy gift card for using Samsung Pay two weeks ago. The offer ends December 31st. Terms and Conditions:
As promised, Best Buy has started selling the new Moto X Pure online. The consumer electronics retail giant began selling it today, with white, black and bamboo models available in both 16GB and 32GB storage options.
As with Motorola’s Moto Maker, the prices start at $399 and go up to $475 depending on which memory and finish model you decide on.

Amazon offers the Unlocked Motorola Nexus 6 32GB in Midnight Blue or Cloud White for $349.99 shipped. That’s $300 off the original list price, $150 less than Best Buy’s current listing, and the lowest we’ve ever seen. The move is likely a clearinghouse before new Nexus devices are revealed on or around September 29th. It is also in response to the newly on sale Moto X which has similar/better specs and a $399 price tag.
The Nexus 6 is still an incredibly solid phone and one of only a few options if you want to play with Andoid M Marshmallow right now.
Amazon shoppers gave it 4.2/5 stars. Last year’s 9to5Google review is here.

Update: It looks like you can also snag the Pebble Time from Amazon now, too.
If you’re not a huge fan of platform-segregated accessories, you’re probably also the kind of person that would go for a Pebble smartwatch over the likes of the Android-only Moto 360 or the iOS-only Apple Watch. And if you’re that kind of person and haven’t yet grabbed the new smartwatch-with-a-color-ePaper-display, you now have a couple more retail outlets to pick from.

Thanks to Best Buy’s pre-order listings for the LG G4 going up early, we were already aware of the phone’s May 28th pre-order date and June 4th launch on Verizon, and earlier today the company made it official along with a previously unannounced LG tablet. A couple details have changed, however.

Pre-orders of LG’s new flagship Android smartphone, the LG G4, have gone live for several major carriers in the United States, and now it’s U.S. Cellular’s turn. Through a tweet sent out on Saturday from U.S. Cellular’s official Twitter account, the carrier confirmed that pre-orders of the G4 on the regional carrier will begin May 29th in-store and online.

The G4 has shipping dates of early June for all of the big four, via information gathered from Best Buy pre-order pages and tweets. So while this tweet doesn’t provide a hard date from when the phone can be purchased outright it’s easy to assume that U.S. Cellular’s variant will also have wide availability starting around the first week of the month. And if you do pre-order a G4 from U.S. Cellular (or elsewhere), LG will throw in a couple accessories for free if you visit this official promo site within two-weeks of receiving your device.
If you’re unsure about whether or not the G4 is for you, be sure to check out our review and comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S6.
Pre-orders for the LG G4 have just gone live on Best Buy’s website for the AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint variants. Along with guaranteeing you’ll get the phone the day it launches on your carrier, the big-box store is even throwing in a $100 gift card to sweeten the deal.

Whereas the HTC One M9 may have seen its image damaged by reports of Snapdragon 810 heating issues (whether or not they’re accurate is up to you to decide), the One M8 is a great phone featuring a 5-inch full HD display, Android Lollipop, a Snapdragon 801 processor, and a bunch more. What’s more, you can get it for only $299 on AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon from Best Buy right now…
The One M8 is just a good compromise — not too dissimilar from the One M7, but without the rampant reports of performance issues hanging over the M8. If I were in the market for a new phone, especially at a carrier-unsubsidized price, I know I’d be taking a hard look at this sale. It’s available today while supplies last.
