Need ‘throwaway’ earbuds for the Google Pixel 2? Here are two great inexpensive options

When we discovered that Google would be shipping the Pixel 2 and 2 XL without a headphone jack, it’s safe to say that a majority of our readers were not happy. To make up for that missing port, it seems logical that Google would follow in the footsteps of other companies and include a pair of wired USB-C headphones, right? Well, the search giant did work on that option but didn’t follow through with it.

So, if you’re looking for an inexpensive pair wired USB-C headphones that work with the Pixel 2, look no further than below…

Monthly Pixel security bulletin now includes changelog of ‘Functional updates’ & fixes

Google Pixel on sale

Several months ago, Google added a section in the main Android Security Bulletin that listed patches specific to Pixel and Nexus devices. For October, that list was broken out into a dedicated “Pixel / Nexus Security Bulletin.” With the November patch, Google has added a section detailing “Functional updates” like bug fixes for its devices.

Google was working on a ‘lift for camera’ gesture on the Pixel 2, currently disabled

The software experience on the Pixel 2 isn’t the most advanced out there, but little touches enabled with the hardware make it a great experience. Things like swiping the fingerprint sensor to pull down the notification tray or squeezing the phone for Assistant are great, but apparently, Google was working on another gesture for the camera…

Google Pixel 2 & 2 XL: How to customize the Active Edge

With the launch of the Pixel 2 and 2 XL, Google borrowed a feature from HTC allows users to trigger a specific action by squeezing the edges of the handset. While the feature on HTC handsets can be customized to launch different apps and actions, the Pixel 2’s Active Edge can only launch the Google Assistant and silence some notifications. Here’s how to customize the feature…

Pixel Visual Core will be enabled on the Google Pixel 2 in Android 8.1 DP2 this November

The camera on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is the best in the business, and it’s just going to get better thanks to a trick Google had hidden from public view — a fully custom chipset that improves HDR+ functionality. That was supposed to be enabled in Android 8.1, but it seems that’s been pushed back to the second developer preview.

Review: Under Armour’s Made for Google Protect Verge cases for the Pixel 2 & 2 XL [Gallery]

When I think of Under Armour, sporting goods and other athletic wear comes to mind, not phone cases. However, after spending a couple of days with the Protect Verge case, it’s clear to me that Under Armour could have one of the best cases for the Pixel 2, but some refinements should be made…

Verizon accidentally sells Pixel 2 with packaging meant to hold USB-C headphones

It was no secret going into Google’s October 4 event that the company planned to announce its second generation smartphones without headphones jacks. To not alienate owners who still preferred wired headphones, Google chose to include a USB-C to 3.5mm port dongle in the box.

According to one man who just bought his Pixel 2 from Verizon, it looks like Google had considered including wired headphones in the box…

Google Pixel 2 gets a $100 price cut at Best Buy on 2-year activations

From 9to5Toys

Best Buy is currently running a sale on the Google Pixel 2 that brings the price down from a total of $650 to $550 over the course of 2 years. This sale only applies to Verizon models as Best Buy obviously doesn’t sell the Google Store version. Remember, this has to be done on a 2-year activation through your Verizon account, so you can’t just buy it outright at the $100 discount. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have been riddled with minor issues lately, but Google is determined to fix them.

‘Oreo Colorizer’ fixes the boring colors on the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL

One thing on the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL that irks me to an extent is the way colors are displayed. Google opted to go for more natural colors and restrict the phone to an sRGB color space, and that’s something we’re not used to on modern devices. Thankfully, a developer has figured out a solution.

‘Now Playing History’ remembers the music recognized by your Pixel 2 long after it’s gone

One of the flagship features that arrived with the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL is something called Now Playing. When turned on, Now Playing identifies songs playing in the background automatically and lists the song’s name and artist on your lockscreen. Unfortunately, though, when that information disappears from your screen, it’s gone forever. ‘Now Playing History’ fixes this problem…

Google collaborated with Intel on the Pixel Visual Core in Pixel 2

Last week, Google revealed that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL contains a “custom-designed co-processor” for machine learning and image processing. This Pixel Visual Core is not yet enabled, but when activated it should result in better processing, among other tasks. A new report today reveals that Google worked with Intel on their first consumer chip.

Google Lens is coming to Assistant on the Pixel ‘in the next few weeks’

Google Lens has a ton of potential, and the bits Google showed off with it at I/O this May and GDD in September are incredible. However, basically none of that is live right now, and functionality is incredibly limited within the Photos app. Over time it’s going to improve, though, and a couple of Googlers have hit Twitter to give us more information.
