Lenovo sold 3 million Moto Z phones in the past year amidst continued growth outside of China

Under its Lenovo ownership, Motorola is a very different company than the one we all knew and loved a few years back. The company is now releasing more phone models than ever before, and while this is something I’ve previously been critical of, it does appear to be part of a bigger strategy that is helping the company’s sales figures.

Motorola has patented a smartphone display that can heal itself of cracks

Smartphones are pretty expensive, but they’re also fragile. A simple drop can sometimes result in a shattered, unusable phone. Motorola has pushed forward in fixing this problem fir consumers by introducing a technology it calls ShatterShield on phones like the Moto Z2 Force, but it seems like that isn’t the only idea the company has had to fix this problem…

Motorola HQ: Taking a tour through the Moto makers’ workplace [Video]

Motorola has gone through a lot of changes over the last few years. The company was acquired by Google back in 2011, then sold to Lenovo just three years later. Where Moto phones used to allow you to choose colors and materials, these days you customize your phone with different Mods.

Ownership and phone strategies aside, though, Motorola is still largely the same ambitious company it’s always been. The brand that invented the cell phone as we know it today has always stood out as one of the few Midwest-based tech companies in an industry largely dominated by Silicon Valley. Being a Midwesterner myself, I drove up to Motorola’s headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, where they graciously gave me a tour of their facilities.

Moto Z2 Force Review: The screen’s not shattered, but my heart is [Video]

Motorola used to be my favorite Android OEM. The company made excellent smartphones, were one of the best in terms of software, and clearly listened to customers to deliver something that was unique and fun to use. Then, Lenovo bought them. As much as I enjoy Lenovo products, I was scared to see what would happen to Motorola, and just as I and many others feared, things went south.

A lot of the great things Motorola was doing were scrapped, but the company still continued to impress. The introduction of the Moto Z line was jarring, but interesting and unique. This year, we’ve got the Moto Z2, and it’s shattered a lot of what I previously loved about the Z line.

Which of Moto’s 10 phones this year are you most interested in? [Poll]

Before it was purchased by Lenovo, Motorola had three distinct smartphone models that were each targeted at a particular type of consumer. There was the flagship X line, the G line for those on a budget but still wanted decent performance, and the E line for those who just needed a dirt cheap smartphone. Now, Moto makes so many different phones that it’s hard to differentiate them.

Do you plan on purchasing any of the phones that Motorola has released this year?

Review: The Moto E4 Plus is Motorola’s new battery champ [Video]

Last year, Motorola’s Moto Z Play was considered one of the best phones on the market for crazy long-lasting battery endurance. Unfortunately, as we now know, Motorola dropped that famous battery performance with this year’s Z2 Play.

Thankfully, for those that might need that battery capacity, the company announced availability for the Moto E4 Plus here in the United States. And while the device may not be nearly as powerful or full-featured as its Z series siblings, the long-lasting battery just might be reason enough to pick it up.

Moto Z2 Force: The first 5 things you need to do to get started [Video]

Following up on the Moto Z family from last year, Motorola is back with the Moto Z2 Force. Despite the similar look and features, there’s quite a bit new with this year’s phone. We’ll decide if it’s worth your hard-earned dollar later this week in our full review, but for now, let’s look at how to get started with your Moto Z2 Force.

Moto G5S Plus: Heading to the U.S. this fall with dual 13MP cameras, 5.5-inch screen, and higher price

Ever since this past May, we’ve been hearing murmurings of an upcoming Moto G5S Plus that would improve upon Motorola’s awesome budget offering, the G5 Plus. Motorola officially unveiled the G5S Plus today, and while there’s nothing here that’s all that surprising, the device still looks quite solid.

Hands-on: Moto E4 Plus has 5 big differences compared to the E4

Motorola Moto E4 Plus, following its little sibling, is hitting the US soon. The phone’s release comes not too long after the launch of the regular E4 (which we already reviewed), and while we’re still taking a closer look at this variant of the phone, we thought we’d share the five biggest differences we’ve noticed between the two phones in the meantime…

Moto G5S Plus: New renders show off three color options

Motorola’s Moto G5 Plus has proven itself to be one of the best ways to spend under $300 for an unlocked smartphone this year. It’s fast, built-well, runs on stock Android, and costs a fraction of what you’ll spend for most flagships. We’ve heard rumors and seen leaks for the slightly upgraded Moto G5S Plus, and thanks to Evan Blass, we now have a much better look at the upcoming handset.

Opinion: Motorola has lost sight of what the Moto X originally stood for

Over the years, I’ve owned a lot of different smartphones from a lot of different brands. However, of all the devices that I’ve ever called my daily driver, the ones that stick out the most are all three generations of the Moto X. The Moto X series has always been about something different, but with the upcoming Moto X4, it’s quite obvious that Lenovo-owned Motorola has lost sight of what the Moto X originally stood for.

Motorola’s Moto X4 will reportedly sell for around $400 in the United States

Motorola is expected to release the fourth generation Moto X sometime soon, and while some were expecting to get official details on the phone at Motorola’s New York event earlier this week, that didn’t happen. We likely aren’t too much further from an announcement from the company, but until then, notable leakster Roland Quandt has some details on pricing for the X4 to hold us over.

The unlocked Moto Z2 Play is now available for preorder for $499

So far this year, Motorola has announced two entries to its Z series – the Moto Z2 Play and the Moto Z2 Force. The latter was just unveiled earlier this week (and met with less than stellar reception), and the former has been available for Verizon customers for a few weeks. Starting today, you can finally purchase an unlocked model of the Z2 Play through Motorola’s website for use on AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.

Are the Moto Mods enough for you to overlook the Moto Z2 Force’s flaws? [Poll]

Lenovo today officially unveiled the new Moto Z2 Force. As the successor to last year’s Z Force, the device has an identical footprint and is compatible with both old and new Moto Mods. Alongside the Z2 Force, Lenovo also showed off two new Mods: a gaming controller and a 360-degree camera.

Are Moto Mods enough to convince you to purchase the Moto Z2 Force?
