Google Pixel 4 – Cameras

For the first time in the history of the Pixel series of phones, the Pixel 4 will feature multiple rear-facing cameras. Among these, we’ve confirmed that there will be a 12MP main sensor along with a 16MP telephoto camera. This telephoto lens, combined with the Google Camera app’s excellent Super Res Zoom feature that first premiered on the Pixel 3, should make for exceptional long-distance photos on the Pixel 4.

On the software side of things, we’ve learned that Google has planned at least two major camera updates for the Google Pixel 4. The first of these is the inclusion of a new “Motion Mode” intended for taking DSLR-like photos with motion blur. We’re not yet sure if this is the same as the “McFly Mode” we’ve been tracking in the Google Camera app. The other planned improvement to the Pixel 4 camera is a massive upgrade to Night Sight to make it ready for astrophotography.

Google Pixel 4 – Specs

  • Display – 5.7-inch 90Hz display
  • Processor – Snapdragon 855
  • Memory – 6GB
  • Storage – 64GB / 128GB
  • Battery – 2,800 mAh
  • Audio – Stereo speakers
  • Security – Titan M

Google Pixel 4 – Release Date

The Pixel 4 has not yet been given a proper release date, but a leaked Verizon timeline points to an October release, just like most Pixel flagships. The company likely won’t share an official release date for the Pixel 4 until their fall hardware event.

Invitations to the Made by Google 2019 hardware event have gone out, and we now know that the event will take place on October 15th.

Google Pixel 4 – Leaks

Just like the Pixel 3 before it, the Pixel 4 is one of the most leaked phones in recent history. Our Ben Schoon has collected the countless leaks into one massive historical record for your convenience.

New Google Assistant on Pixel 4 set to expand to France by ‘end of year’

One of the best parts of Google’s Pixel 4 is the “new” Google Assistant that comes with it. The faster, better-looking Assistant is still limited to only a few regions and just recently started working with G Suite accounts, but a new report claims that the new Google Assistant will arrive in France later this year.

Google Pixel devices can pin apps to Android’s share menu w/ March security update

android share menu

Android’s sharing menu is pretty solid, but one update we’ve been pretty excited about in Android 11 is the ability to pin apps to the share menu to ensure they always show at the top. If you have a Google Pixel smartphone, though, you won’t have to wait until Android 11 to pin apps to the share menu.

Google Pixel’s ‘Now Playing’ feature will no longer show songs you’re casting

google pixel now playing

One of my favorite features of Google’s Pixel smartphones for the past couple of generations has been “Now Playing.” The effortless feature identifies music playing in the background, and, now, it’s fixing one source of frustration. Now Playing will no longer show songs you’re casting from Pixel.

Review: Nomad’s premium Pixel 4 leather cases are some of the best you can buy

Nomad Pixel 4 cases

Google and other phone manufacturers put a lot of work into crafting the design of their smartphones, but most of us just end up slapping a case on top. Many cases take away from the look of the device, but brands such as Nomad make them even better. Lately, I’ve been using Nomad’s Rugged leather Pixel 4 case and it’s quickly become a favorite.
