Yesterday, Google confirmed that one of the Home Mini’s features — the ability to trigger Assistant by tapping on the top of the speaker — was defective on a select number of units. As the bug was causing the smart speaker to essentially listen and record its surroundings 24/7, Google quickly pushed out an update to disable this feature.

Relay Media, a company founded by an ex-Googler that helps publishers convert their sites to Google’s AMP format, has been acquired by Google (via TechCrunch) as was announced on the company’s website today. The company also sent an email notifying customers of the deal.
While the Russian government was found to have bought around 3,000 ads on Facebook in an attempt to influence the 2016 U.S. election, Google has previously said that it had found no similar practices on its own ad platforms.

Late last month a rumor started to make the rounds that the Google Pixel 2 would have an always listening feature that would recognize music playing in the background. It would then use this information and display the song on the handset so the user could easily see what is playing. Google is a massive company that does a lot of things. Because of that, it is in the spotlight for a lot of issues, and one that continues to come up is privacy. In a recent interview, Google’s CEO discussed how the company intends to keep improving privacy, as well as several other matters.
