What is Google Pixel 3 XL?

Google Pixel 3 XL is the larger of the two flagship phones from Google in 2018. As you may already know, the primary difference with the larger 3 XL model is that the display larger, has a notable display cutout (otherwise known as a notch), and the phone itself is bigger. Functionally and specs-wise, the two phones are going to be almost exactly the same.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Features

The Google Pixel 3 XL is a moderate upgrade over its predecessor, the Pixel 2 XL. It of course brings Android 9 Pie, which itself has many upgrades, but that software is also available to all other Google Pixel owners.

The new Android 9 Pie OS brings design changes, the new gesture-based navigation system (which may be the default on the Pixel 3 for the first time), a handy screenshot editor tool, AI-powered brightness and battery features, a completely overhauled multitasking screen, and Digital Wellbeing.

On the hardware side of things, the phone sees return of the Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor and the squeezable Active Edge to activate the Google Assistant. This year, though, the Pixels will finally add wireless charging to the mix — as well as a dock called the Pixel Stand to support that.

The cameras bring lots of new features to the mix — Top Shot for capturing the best of many shots, Night Sight for great night photos, Super Res Zoom for enhanced digital zoom, Photobooth with smile detection, and more.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Release Date

Google Pixel 3 XL was announced on October 9th at the Made by Google 2018 event. Pre-orders went live soon after, and the device began shipping in mid-October. Both phones are available to purchase now.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Specs

The Google Pixel 3 XL, like its smaller sibling, packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, an Adreno 630 GPU, 4GB RAM, and a 3,430 mAh battery. The’re s a fullscreen OLED 6.3” display, which is packs QHD+ resolution and a pixel density of 523ppi.

The phone is available in both 64GB and 128GB of storage space. The phone has stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.0 + LE, Wi-Fi 2.4G + 5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, eSIM, GPS, GLONASS, proximity and ambient light sensor, and other sensors.

As far as the cameras go, there’s nothing all too surprising when it comes to hardware. We expect that the back shooter will be a 12.2MP shooter, while the two front shooters will both be 8.1-megapixels — one being wide angle.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Where to buy

Google Pixel 3 XL is from the Google Store, Best Buy, Verizon, and other retailers outside the US. It is also available at Project Fi.

Google Pixel 3 XL – Price

The Google Pixel 3 XL starts at $899 for the smaller 64GB capacity, and the larger capacity brings it up to $999. The smaller Pixel 3, on the other hand, starts at $799 and goes up to $899 from there for the 128GB model.

Some Pixel owners unable to use Active Edge and more after Android 10 update

Android 10 Active Edge settings

Though the brave among us have enjoyed Android 10 through beta updates on our devices for a few months now, the official Android 10 release finally hit Google Pixel phones (and more) this week. While that beta testing process found many issues ahead of time, some problems still made it through, as some Google Pixel owners on Android 10 are unable to use phone features that rely on sensors, including Active Edge and adaptive brightness.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a starter kit: Ultimate smartphone video-making gear [Video]

Pixel 3 video makers kit

The commonly heard phrase often goes something like “the best camera is the one that you have with you”, right? And with smartphone cameras so ubiquitous now, often that camera will be a mobile device. While the Pixel 3 has one of the best single-lens smartphone camera setups for stills on the market, video and videography isn’t something I would recommend without a few tiny tweaks, improvements and additions.

pixel 3a

Google’s initiative to bring RCS messaging to Android phones is almost completely reliant on carriers, and that’s going just about as well as everyone thought it would. Today, T-Mobile has casually mentioned that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a won’t support RCS messaging on its network.

Android Q Beta 3: Classic three-button navigation arrives on Pixel 3

One of the big gripe users had with Android Pie was the debut of Google’s new gesture navigation system. Many weren’t a fan of the system, and they were especially unhappy when Google’s Pixel 3 forced them into it with no way to revert back to the classic three-button navigation setup. Now, with the 3rd Android Q beta, that option is back.

Google Pixel 3 XL

Since its debut, the only carrier that’s had the privilege of selling the Google Pixel line has been Verizon Wireless. That officially ends today, though, as Google has partnered up with T-Mobile and Sprint to bring the Pixel 3 and the new Pixel 3a to more customers on more networks.

Google Pixel 3 re-review: 6 months with the pinnacle of Android and smartphone cameras [Video]

Pixel 3 XL re-review LTE

Make no mistake, we’re most definitely a partisan group at 9to5Google when it comes to the Google Pixel 3. Being able to pick up a device that’s been created as Google intended is the core reason that the Pixel line is so revered — and that industry-leading camera is most definitely a reason too.

Hands-on: Belkin’s Boost-Up fast wireless charger is a solid Pixel Stand alternative for Pixel 3 [Video]

Google’s Pixel 3 is the first device since the Nexus 6 from the company to offer wireless charging, and that functionality was sorely missed. Its return didn’t come without a catch, though. To enable a 10W fast wireless charger to work with the Pixel 3, Google uses a proprietary standard, and lately, I’ve been checking out one of the first third-party options from Belkin.
