Google officially unveiled the Pixel 2 this morning but it was quickly overshadowed by the Pixel 2 XL. While the latter features many of the same features as the Pixel 2, this handset isn’t much of a step up compared to last year’s model. Here are the Google Pixel 2’s official specs…

Pixel 2 tidbits: ‘Kinda Blue’ model, 64GB and 128GB storage, likely IP68 water & dust resistance, always on display [Updated]

Update: We’ve now been provided an additional image of the Pixel 2 shown in these photos, proving that the Pixel 2 in “Kinda Blue,” which was revealed in a press render, is this same device. It just so happens that the lighting for these photos was not that great. The headline has been updated to reflect this. Here’s the first real-life look at the bottom of the device. There is a case wrapped around the device that we blurred out (as in the above image) because it could potentially identify our source.

With the release of the second generation Pixel phones drawing ever nearer, there aren’t many details about the Mountain View company’s forthcoming flagship handsets that we haven’t heard already. But 9to5Google has now obtained some new images of the smaller non-XL model from a trusted source, alongside a few little tidbits about the phone that haven’t been reported up to now…

‘Data Transfer Tool’ hits the Play Store, possibly showing off Pixel 2-esque render

One of the key parts of the Pixel experience last year was helping users switch from iPhones and other Android devices, with Google including a USB adaptor in the box to sync data during the initial set up process. That “Data Transfer Tool” hit the Play Store earlier this morning with a screenshot of a phone that very much looks like the Pixel 2.

Google’s Pixel 2 will likely use a Snapdragon 835 as Qualcomm seemingly has no plans for 836

Google is just about a month away from the launch of the Pixel 2, but we’re still pretty unclear on some of its specifications. For quite some time the rumor mill pointed toward its debut with the still unannounced Snapdragon 836 processor, but today we’re hearing that Qualcomm actually has no plans for that chipset.

Pixel 2 customer support job at Google via Accenture pops up on LinkedIn [Update]

Update 9/7/17: The Pixel 2 customer support job listing has been removed from both LinkedIn and Dice. Hopefully, you applied for the position before it was pulled down.

With the Google Pixel 2’s release rumored to take place in just a month, it makes sense that we might be hearing more about the company’s upcoming handsets. While no new images have leaked in recent days, we did spot what appears to be a “Pixel 2” customer support job listing that’s set to be housed at Google’s offices in San Jose, CA…

Opinion: There are lots of great Android phones coming this fall, but I’m most excited about V30

Things are about to get exciting in the mobile landscape with just every Android OEM, as usual, prepping to release more new flagship smartphones. In the crowd there’s Google, Samsung, LG, Andy Rubin’s Essential, Huawei, Moto, and others prepping new releases. It goes without saying that there’s a lot to look forward to, but there is one I didn’t expect to be so excited about: the LG V30.

Google Pixel 2: Revealed in HTC FCC filing w/ Android 8.0.1, ‘Active Edge’ squeeze feature

While this year’s Pixel XL successor widely rumored to be manufactured by LG, the smaller Pixel is expected to be again made by HTC. Recent leaks points to the device looking near identical to the current phone, with the same thick bezels remaining. There is now more proof of the HTC made nature of the device, as well as its features, thanks to a new FCC filing.

Which Project Fi-compatible phone would you buy this fall? [Poll]

Project Fi, Google’s own mobile carrier, piggy backs on T-Mobile, Sprint, and U.S. Cellular networks to bring cheap data plans and an easy-to-use interface when dealing with data usage and bill payments. Its biggest downside, though, is the limited number of compatible phones.

Once several new phones are announced this fall, which device would you buy to use on Project Fi?

Is the lack of a substantial redesign on the Pixel 2 a non-starter for you? [Poll]

Last year when Google unveiled it two smartphones, many criticized the company for giving the Pixel and Pixel XL a safe and boring design that resembled previous HTC devices. This year, Google is expected to introduce successors to both handsets, but will only make small changes to the Pixel 2 while the XL 2 will see changes made to its whole design.

Does the lack of a substantial redesign for the smaller Google Pixel make you less likely to purchase it?

Google Pixel 2: Smaller of two forthcoming Google phones bares all in new images

There’s not much left to learn about Google’s forthcoming Pixel and Pixel XL refresh. Between various leaksrumors, and our own reporting, it’s pretty clear that the Mountain View company is prepping a relatively minor refresh for the smaller of the two devices, and a more significant redesign for the larger XL model.

Besides one report that uncovered the XL model, the smaller model has been at the center of most of the leaks so far. That includes a real-life image of the smaller phone that leaked just last week. Now (via GSMArena) we have a couple more images.

Opinion: I’m not happy about the lack of a headphone jack on the Pixel 2, but I’ll gladly live with it

Yesterday’s latest set of Pixel leaks confirmed something we knew was coming, but hoped was a lie — the headphone jack is gone. Like Apple and Motorola before it, Google is ditching the headphone jack in the Pixel 2, and while I’m certainly not happy about that, it’s not going to break the phone for me like I expect it to for many others.

Opinion: The Pixel XL 2 will be my next phone if the leaks are accurate

Each year, a lot of great phones are released. There’s the typical affair from Samsung, a slew of phones from Motorola, LG’s two flagships with the G and V series, and plenty more. They’re all asking us to empty our wallets, and with flagships costing anywhere from $500 to $1000, these purchases don’t come lightly.

A lot of great devices have been announced so far this year and there are plenty more to come. But if the latest renders for the Pixel XL 2 that were released earlier today are accurate, I can say with near absolute certainty that it will be my next phone…

Based on today’s leaks, what Pixel XL 2 feature are you looking forward to most? [Poll]

This morning images leaked that showed what were supposedly cases for the upcoming Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2. While it is possible that they are real, there were more than a few aspects that made it seem otherwise. Then, several hours later, a render of the Pixel XL 2 leaked, and with it, the confirmation of some the smartphone’s rumored details.

Now that we have seen the cases and the leaked render, what feature of the Pixel XL 2 are you most excited for?

Sketchy leak of cases for Google Pixel 2 & XL 2 show large camera windows, headphone jacks

As we get closer to the release of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, we’re unavoidably going to start hearing more rumors. While we’ve already heard some tidbits about each of the devices, we haven’t yet seen what they might look like. We’re now possibly one step closer to that, however, as a pair of purported cases for both the Pixel 2 and XL 2 have now leaked.

But as for the legitimacy of these cases, unfortunately, we’re leaning towards dubious at best.

What new color would you want on the upcoming Google Pixel 2? [Poll]

When Google unveiled the Pixel and Pixel XL late last year, the company announced that the phone would, of course, be available in the typical black and silver colors. What surprised people was a bright blue variant that Google deemed “Really Blue.”

With the next generation of Pixel smartphones supposed to be announced in the coming months, what color do you really hope Google decides to ship the handsets in?

New Google Pixel 2 rumors reveal specs, interesting design tweaks for ‘walleye’ & ‘taimen’

In recent weeks, rumors of Google’s next generation ‘Pixel 2’ devices have increased in frequency. We reported earlier this month that LG would be manufacturing the likely Pixel XL successor, while back in March we got a look at Google documentation that suggested no headphone jack.

New rumors today corroborate both details and provide the first solid — thought expected — insight into what specs will power these upcoming devices, as well as other design changes in store.
