Many Google Pixel owners are experiencing random Bluetooth disconnects, issues with calls over Bluetooth

Site default logo image

Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL are both fantastic devices, but they aren’t without flaws. Since launch, we’ve seen several issues pop up on the devices, including the speaker and problems with the camera. Google has been able to fix some of those via software updates, but now another issue is popping up ─ random Bluetooth disconnects.

Opinion: Google, why can’t you just let people backorder the unlocked Pixel?

Site default logo image

Stock for the Google Pixel, which launched almost 5 months ago, is still hit or miss. As of the time of this writing, the 5-inch Pixel is completely out of stock on the Google Store and the 5.5-inch Pixel XL is almost completely out of stock as well. There was one random day this month that stock suddenly reappeared in full, but the story since October has been mostly just that: random.

While any company as big and with as many resources as Google should definitely have been able to figure out stock for the phone by this point — 4 and a half months after launch — I think the complaints of many would be somewhat mitigated if the Google would just let customers backorder the phone and quote some future shipping date…

PSA: Almost every Google Pixel (and Pixel XL) model is back in stock at the Google Store

Site default logo image

Since its launch, it’s been pretty hit or miss to pick up either of Google’s new Pixel smartphones because for the majority of the time, many variants of the Pixel have been completely out of stock. The Pixel XL has been the main culprit here, with some models being out of stock for months at this point. Today, though, nearly every Pixel model is back in stock.

Hands-on with Toast’s real-wood cover for the Google Pixel/Pixel XL [Gallery]

Site default logo image

I love changing up the way my smartphones look, and the Pixel is a prime candidate since its design is, well, less than beautiful. Lately, I’ve been trying out a handful of skins for the Pixel XL, including some from dbrand and Colorware. Recently, though, I’ve been trying a real-wood cover from Toast, and it’s a pretty interesting departure from your average vinyl skin.

Google Pixel’s audio distortion and popping issues fixed with February security patch

Site default logo image

One of the more prevalent issues affecting the Google Pixel and Pixel XL has been audio distortion at higher volumes. After some back and forth on whether this was a hardware or software defect, yesterday’s February security patch includes a fix for the issue. Meanwhile, last week’s 7.1.2 Developer Preview is still affected…

PSA: Google says ‘production of the Pixel has not stopped’ despite erroneous Telus email

Site default logo image

Following its launch, Google’s Pixel smartphones have proved pretty popular. Due to that, Google has had a lot of trouble keeping up with demand for the phone, with many customers complaining about that issue. Now, some are alarmingly reporting that Google has ceased production of the phone. Unsurprisingly, Google has confirmed that those rumors are false.

Opinion: Five features that I want with the second-generation Google Pixel

Site default logo image

We’re constantly on the search for the “perfect” smartphone, but it’s still impossible — and will likely remain as such — to even get close in that endeavor. Google’s Pixel smartphones came as close as any smartphone before, in my eyes at least, but they were still very flawed phones with tons of room for improvement.

What made the Pixel so great? As we detailed in our review, it really came done to the software and performance. Google created a phone that offered performance and reliability on Android like we had never seen before. Combine that with a clean Android interface, useful features like “Moves” and Google Assistant, and top it all off with one of the best cameras ever on a smartphone, and it becomes clear that you’ve got an amazing smartphone….

How to download, add, rearrange, and remove widgets on Google Pixel

Widgets have long been a hallmark feature for Android. When comparing the two major mobile platforms at face value, it has always been — at least until the most recent updates to iOS — easy to say that customizable widgets are one of the reasons you might want an Android phone over an iPhone. Well, widgets haven’t gone anywhere. They’re still around on Google’s new Pixel phone, and here’s how to manage them…

How to enroll in the Android 7.1.2 Beta Program

Google has announced that the next version of Nougat will be Android 7.1.2. While it doesn’t introduce anything major, it features performance optimizations and bugfixes. While a stable version of 7.1.2 won’t be available for a couple of months, Google is allowing customers with a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5x, and Nexus Player to join the Android Beta Program to test it out early…

Android Basics: How to change launchers on the Google Pixel

The Google Pixel ships with the Pixel Launcher, but — as with any Android device — you’re not stuck with it if you don’t want to be. Actually, you have plenty of options, including Google’s own Now Launcher, Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher, and more. If you’re looking to find out how you might use one of these third-party home screen replacements, keep reading…

Hands on with Colorware’s new skins for Google Pixel/Pixel XL [Gallery]

Site default logo image

Google’s Pixel is one of the best devices available today, but it doesn’t offer all that much on the hardware front, rather focusing on the software. It lacks a certain flair that many other devices offer, but you can easily make up for that with a skin. Many have gravitated to dBrand for skins, but there’s another option now available, skins from Colorware, and lately, I’ve been testing one out.

Hands-on: The FRE LifeProof case is great for protecting your Google Pixel, but at a cost

Site default logo image

When it comes to protecting your smartphone fully, LifeProof has long been one of your best options. By simply installing this case, you’re not only adding drop and screen protection, but also waterproofing it for up to two meters of water. At $90, this is definitely one of the most expensive, but maybe one of the best, premium cases you can get for complete Pixel protection…

Source: Google’s Pixel 2 to feature improved camera, CPU, higher price, but ‘budget’ phone also in works [Updated]

It feels like the first Google Pixel was just announced, but now we’re hearing more about the next-generation ‘Pixel 2’ from a source that has been reliable in the past. I mentioned yesterday that we previously heard Google Pixel would bring ‘waterproofing,’ a feature we’re now told is “still on the table.”

We’re also now being told, however, that Google is once again focusing intensely on the camera with Pixel 2, that the device is currently being tested with improved chipsets from two different manufacturers, and that it will bring a higher price. Finally, the same source says Google has lately been testing lower-end Pixel devices which would bring lesser specs and a much lower price tag.

Android Basics: How to perform a factory data reset & back up to Google Drive on Google Pixel

Sometimes things go wrong with your device, and the Google Pixel is no exception. One way to remedy many issues is to do a Factory data reset. While this definitely shouldn’t be your first course of action when having trouble with your phone (be sure to check our Android Basics guide for that!), it’s a good last-resort if you think you might need to send your phone in for repair. Sometimes your problem could be as simple as a software glitch…
